: Enable me...

Hi All,

I am new on here (just stumbled upon today) and need some enabling. I currently own a 2005 GC Limited with the 5.7L and I test drove the 2007 SRT8 last night. Needless to say I didn't want to get out of the drivers seat and bring it back to the dealership. However, is it worth it to spend the money to get into the SRT8 when I already have the 5.7L?

I am expecting my monthly payment to go up as well as gas expense. I commute every day to work and was born with a lead foot so that doesn't help my cause. I guess I need either a strong dose of common sense or some encouragement. TIA! :D

Everyone I know with a 5.7L looks at mine and says, "I should have waited".

Performance and looks wise, there is no comparison, but you will pay at the pumps.

Thanks for the feedback kramsay1234!

That's the same reaction I get everytime I see a SRT8 on the road. But, when they came out in my area they were going for $10K over MSRP putting them around $55K - which is more than we paid for our 2005 Corvette! I just couldn't justify the purchase at the time.

I pay a good amount at the pump now as my commute is 17 miles one way. But, driving the SRT8 would make that commute seem much more doable. ;)

The limited is a fine truck but I would step up. Since getting my silver '07 it has become the center of attention at car washes, valet parking stops and gas stations all over austin. The gas is expensive (I use 93 premium only X 2 fills a week) and oil changes are costly but if that was my biggest concern I would drive one of those silly prius cars.

$10k over sticker is ludicrous. Anyone who pays over sticker for anything is an idiot.

Congrats on your purchase ndm!

Sadly, there are no used models that I have stumbled upon in my area. :( I am leaning towards short term leasing as well - so a new vehicle is practically a must. The one I found is actually being sold at a dealership I used to work for. So, I am hoping for a good deal. ;)

I agree that it is ludicrous - but when people want something bad enough they will do anything for it. That particular car sold so someone around here paid that much.

What kind of gas mileage are you getting on your commute? Do you feel there would really be that big of a difference? I know my '05 has MDS but I never really use it since my foot is constantly on the gas. If I baby it I can eek out 15 mpg on the highway.

:D That's going to be a nice ride home!

I found a thread about gas mileage in the Trouble Shooting area. Seems like it should be about the same as what I get now. I am itching to call the dealer and see what kind of deal they can work for me.

I was just about to suggest Don at Champion and its evidence that someone beat me to it that he has done very good things for everyone he has serviced. The thing will show up on your door for less than you can buy for locally. Good luck. (oh and thumbs up and a "nice truck" from a guy on the way back from lunch today - the other 2 in the truck were laughing, but it happens all the time. Thing looks outstanding.

It will be interesting if Don can do as well as everyone says. Does he work with trade in's?

I definitely miss having a car with a nice 'wow' factor.

This vehicle was made for people with a lead foot

It would be wasted on anyone else. Do it right now. Just make sure you get RED one:D

I would love a red one since that's what I drive now. :p But, if I end up purchasing from my local dealer they only have a black one in stock. The other car in my garage is a Black C6 Corvette so it would be nice to have a matching pair. Downside of that is that taking care of black is a PITA.
