: What Happened?

I was pulling my two motorcycles this past weekend to NC. Road was damp, pulled out to pass at 5o MPH hand downshifted into 4th, not accelerating fast enough so one more touch on shifter. BOOM 1st gear, SRT and motorcycles all over the road. barely saved it. Anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks
JW

That's pretty nutty. Haven't had that experience yet. Mine refuses to downshift that far if I'm at too high of a speed.

Thats not supposed to happen, 1st=20-25mph,2nd=25-35mph approx. But
1st gear at 50mph, thats a 1st, no pun intended. Glad no real damage was done.

Thanks that what the dealer told me also. You might imagine the noise when this occured, not to mention the tires locking and unlocking due to traction control. Don't think I will use manual shifting for passing again. Just wanted all to know what happened.

I have been getting some major chirping while engine braking. I will have to check where the MPH is. This is with the ABS/TCM off.

I think the TCM is JUNK !!....it seems to behave in strange ways all the time, you never know what kind of shift you will get and when, the only time you know for sure is when you autostick.

He was autosticking and it undershifted!

whoa, misread that - thats definitley the first time I heard of that, actually very scary if even under autostick the tcm will fool around with the trans like that.

I wonder if this event had anything to do with the load I was carrying?

I wonder if this had anything to do with the fact that our truck does not come with a trailer hitch (nor do they offer one as an option).... just thinking out loud here. :p

John....I would not think it was load related. I use autostick probably 90% of the time. Towing or not. I've towed 2800lbs or so for more than 14,000 miles now. Use it for both deceleration and acceleration. I have never had this problem occur.

Not a good thing. TCM should not allow an undershift like that, it should have been limited by revs/speed. Try and recreate it a few times when your not towing. Definitely ask Dlr if any codes thrown.

I just had the same thing happen this weekend. There was a little snow on the road. The truck shifted from 5th to 1st momentarily. The truck was all over the road. Nearly hit the Jersey barrier.

Thats craziness. Absolutely something that needs to be checked into.
