: Painted Rims

I decided to paint the SRT logo on each of my rims. I thought it would give a little extra pop and match well with the car. I decided that since my car and calipars were black, that the logo on the rims should be black as well.

I cleaned the rims and the used two coats of back primer followed by two coats of black glossy paint. As far as the applicator, I used a tiny paint brush and then went to a tooth pick. Masking tape turned out to be a train wreck and would have taken forever to cut the logo through it.

I love how it looks and recommed everyone try it if they like it. Here are four pictures of the finished work.

Sounds and looks great. What did you use to strip or remove the clear from the aluminum?

Nice job! I'm sure many will follow suit!

I have to agree, I really like the look. Considering trying it myself. It would be a nice touch since my jeep is black.

Great look! I've been wanting to do that myself. That "SRT" area is such a pain keeping clean anyway!

I will take some pictures tomorrow when it is light to give a better overall view. As far as the paint I used, I went to Home Depot and got some generic stuff. The primer instructions detailed that you could paint over any surface as long as it was free of dirt.

ge2, I did not strip away the clear from the aluminium because I was not sure about the best way to do it and I figured the primer would prepare the surface sufficiently. The logo seems to be of a different texture so perhaps it does not have any clear on it.

I am curious about the durability and will keep everyone posted after I wash it. It is still curing right now in my heated garage, which will have positive repercussions towards the longevity.

Even if it doesn't stay there permanently, it's such a small area, that I bet re-doing it a time or two per year wouldn't be all that bad.

It looks totally killer. Really nice choice.

I also did my logos, but red,and would recommend to anyone doing this to buy a car touch up pen from schucks. It is basically certain factory colors in a touch up bottle that can either be used with a pen or a brush wich is included. I first tried the brush, and found it hard to stay in the lines. As for the pen you can basically use the logo as a stencil and does not leave brush marks. It takes about 5 minutes per wheel.

Here are pictures at full scale to give some perspective. They still don't to the wheels justice and look much better in person.

Looks good, it might be a good idea to put a coat of Clearcoat also.

Looks like they don't list 2007 colors yet. I wanna do mine in Red Rock. Guess I'll have to pick some up at the dealership. ;)

Red Rock will be much more difficult to get a match on since it is a multi-stage colour. then again, will be close enough since its such a small area. Sometimes you will get a dealers body shop that has some of each base mixed that will whip you up a small container full.

to tell you the truth im not sure. i didnt need spacers... i believe the offset is the same as stock. the wheel do stick out just a little bit. thanks for posting that. it took a good week to find rims that were made to fit this vehicle that where not asanti or hre... too much $$$$ i got away with these for around 4,000 with great tires. if that sounds incorrect let me know. i have no problem calling my wheel guy and asking him.

I've used high gloss Tremclad paint on other rims in the past and they hold up amazing. No pealing or cracking ever.

Looks GREAT! I have wanted to do this since I bought mine but never got around to it, this may give me the push I need. I will be doing mine in Inferno Red with the touch up paint with the 2 in 1 applicator 1 side is a pen and the other is a brush.
