: Unsuccessful installation of Mopar accessories

In an attempt to prevent paint damage on my brand spanking new JGC SRT8 that I just took delivery from Champion, I had previously ordered and received the following MOPAR accessories:
Part #82209027 Front Air Deflector (tinted)
Part #82209093 Front Splash Guards
Part #82209094 Rear Splash Guards
Upon setting out to install the Front Air Deflector, it became instantly evident that, upon completion, the hood was VERY difficult to close (without EXTREME SLAMMING!!) and even more difficult to open, requiring a long screw driver to actuate the trigger. I subseqently removed same leaving behind the 4 holes that I had to drill into my virgin hood liner.
Moving on to the Splash Guards, it quickly became apparent that the lower aero body work on the JGC SRT8 prevented installation of the Front and Rear Splash Guards!
All of the research that I did prior to purchasing these three items did not ever allude to the fact that the unique body work on the JGC SRT8 precluded the successful installation of these MOPAR designed items. NOW WHAT ????

That's too bad. Unfortunately, everything I have read stated that the splashguards do not fit the SRT8's.

The hood deflector I don't know about. It's too bad it does not fit. Perhaps it would be better if the latch were adjusted. It's a possibility.

Good Luck.

There seem to be no splash guards made to fit the SRT8.

There was a chrome bug deflector installed on a non-SRT Jeep at the dealership the other week. I went to open the hood to see how it fit inside, and I could not reach the latch either. Not the best design. (not even close)

Hopefully you can return the items. The best thing out there is the clear bra. I know they cost about $800 for the full kit, but you can also add peices behind the wheels in a triangle shape to protect the lower paint. I have a full kit on my BMW and have hit road rocks, blood bugs, and a really slow sparrow without even a ding or scratch. Same old addage, you get what you pay for.

PS-If you do go with the clear bra, make sure the shop is an authorized 3M installer otherwise they use inferior plastic and it will yellow and peel. You will know because they will proudly display it, or act a little coy when you ask them if they are not.

I have a 3m clear bra and you really cant beat it - even in the worst weather conditions any residue like bugs and dirt just wipe right off.

You guys with the clear bra - did you wrap the entire bumpers? I did, and am pleased although there are stretch marks that can bee seen if look closely at the film because they heated and stretched rather than cutting mutiple pieces. Was pricey yes, but hopefully will protect well. I did entire bumper, front of hood, front side of fenders and the rocker panels. Am condsidering a couple pieces for behind the rear wheels as well.

I have the same air deflector and molded mud flaps on my '07 GCSRT8 and have no problems. Initially, my hood deflector had the same open/close problems, but I discovered that I mounted it incorrectly. The deflector was set-back too deep which causes the brackets to prevent proper closure. As far as the mud flaps, I had to use a Craftsman right angle drill to mount the flaps. Also used black silicone adhesive to set the mud flaps. I confirmed your part numbers and they match mine so take another shot at it.

I have the molded mud flaps on mine also. Dont remember the part #'s, but they are the standard mopar parts you can order at the dealer. Upon initial dry fitting, it appears they dont fit. But the plastic gives with some elbow grease. I think they look fine and work even better. No problems through the winter weather either. They do extend down from the body a tad and may scrape the ground upon entering drives, but I'm happy with the flaps.

The 3M is the inferior clear bra IMHO. You want Llumar or Venture if yellowing is a concern.

I had 3M film put on a car at the same time a buddy had lumar installed. 3 years later, his had yellowed, mine had not. Both cars were garaged and kept ultra clean.

He's been doing this for about 7 years now. All high line stuff. In my case, the 3M on my garage kept M3 yellowed over the entire front end in a little more than a year. 3M did warranty it, but it took forever for them to pay Ryan. We replaced it with Venture film. It is clearer, not quite as tough, but easier to work with, particularly regarding the adhesive, and the lack of stretch marks.

If anyone has any film questions just call Ryan. Great guy and will tell it like it is.......Even if your not going to be a buyer.

Interesting what you said about the stretch marks. I had my entire front bumper wrapped in 3M film in one piece. The downside was that on some of the surfaces the film has stretch marks in it that are visible when looking at it. From a few feet away, it is fine, but if you are looking at the bumper you can see the stretches. I was warned about this before I had it installed. I still feel it is worth if for the protection aspect, but of course would have preferred it be smooth all over.

I installed the 3M clear bra on my zx-12 in 04' new, stretch marks (none), adhesive has held up o.k.(small bubbles on perimter), one hell of a B..tch to apply to the front fairing(no pre-cut kit available at the time). No yellow discoloring as of date, but I am noting the Venture film for future reference. It's been great for the bug factor, especially during the midwest summers. I wonder if the yellow discoloring has anything to do with the UV sunlight? Just a thought since my bike only sees outside my garage for three months out of the year and no discoloration. In any case, the clear bra wins vs. a bug deflector any day of the week!

I had the tinted front air deflector installed at the dealer. It is a tight fit with the grille. I had them adjust the hood for easier close.

Since then, I have had no problems.
