So, who has been waiting till the last minute to get their RSA's looked at under Goodyear "recall" letter (recall in quotes since it's not technically a recall)?

I plan on taking mine in in the next couple weeks. Anyone else? I've almost 10,000 miles on the beast and sure will be nice if I hear I get a whole new set of shoes ;)

BTW - Don't ask a bunch of questions about the tire recall if you haven't recieved the notice. It was only a certain number of the 06' that had an issue with tires.

all mine checked out fine so sadly no new tires for me. And yes they really did check out fine the shop I went to was outstanding. Used magnifying glass and some sort of micro scope that was projected onto a laptop then took the time to take me through the inspection process to show me all was good. new tires would have been nice though.

Thanks for the reminder. I need to get mine checked. I will not be happy if the dismount all 4 of my tires & don't put new ones on. Theres always potential for scratching a wheel, but new tires may help offset my disgust.

Took mine in last week... they are waiting to find out more info from goodyear. The guy told me he would get back to me, only heard from him once. I am pretty sure mine are fine but I will make sure it is done before the end of the month.

Can't find an "authorized" run-flat facility within 100 miles!! Would it be appropriate to simply take it to any Goodyear dealer and present the letter and the print out of the "recall"? Just a thought.

I took it to the one here and they said they are not owned by goodyear and may not be able to do it. 1 guy there said no way and the manager said yes. So I don't know what to do. If I don't find out soon I will be traveling to Denver to get it done.

The dealers that are not authorized to perform the work do not do warranty work, so therefore they will not perform the check.

I believe the authorized ones are those owned by Goodyear, and not a private party. When I had a hole plugged, I had to take it to three Goodyear shops until I found one that was owned by Goodyear.

Does not have to be owned by GoodYear, but the shop must be an emt certified shop. In other words it cannot just be any old tire vendor who has a hook up to sell GoodYears, but must be one having experience with run flats, pressure monitoring systems etc. If anyone has a problem, and you are unable to find one, call GoodYear. If not offered to you, request that you remain on the phone with them while they make the call to various shops in their system and get one to agree to perform the service. THEY WILL DO THIS.

Make sure the tire shop has new RSAs in the correct size in stock before they dismount. This way if the tires fail inspection they can mount the new tires right away. Otherwise, if they need to be replaced, there is more risk for rim damage due to dismount old, mount old, leave, go back, dismount old, mount new.

Shops that don't stock these tires are not going to order them just on the off chance that your old tires might be bad. They would be stuck with expensive, rare size tires if your old tires weren't bad.

This is not necessarily true. I had my tires checked in Nov. I made an appointment at the closest Goodyear dealer that handled run flats and told them in advance of the campaign and tire sizes. I went there, they looked at my tire serial numbers to confirm they were included and then said they wanted to order the tires first, before dismounting. Initially I was pissed because I had to go back (1/2 hour drive) but then realized they were doing me a favor due to less risk of rim injury.

I went back a week later when they had the tires in stock for the official inspection. Mine passed so no new tires. If you go to a Goodyear shop, they should be able to do this since they are affiliated with the maker of the tire.

And now that shop is stuck with expensive, odd size tires....not a good business move.

BTW, my shop told me this afternoon that any and all tires that fall within the date range and VIN range get replaced. The blemishes only matter as to wether or not the tires need to be rushed. I'll believe I'm getting new tires when they are on the car.

If true, that is GREAT news!!!!!

Also, as for ordering in advance, the shop that I deal with is owned by Goodyear Corporate, so they wouldn't really be out that money as they (meaning the tires themselves) would still beowned by Goodyear.

Not necessarily, someone else will need them at some point. My dealer also did this, and all my tires were ok. A great goodwill gesture, I'll be back there in the future for any tire work for vehicles I own.

The shop is totally wrong. The tires MUST exhibit the defect or Goodyear will not reimburse the dealer. This is clearly stated on the recall bulletin and the dealer must return verified defective tires before a reimbursement claim is processed.

^^ I agree the shop is totally wrong for tires to be replaced they must exhibit the "flaw". I would hold them to that statement though. The shop I took mine to made sure to order and recieve the tires prior to dismounting mine.

Hey, if they replace the tires, I don't care if they get reimbursed or not. :D

Only had to pay $4.24 for four new tires (FL State Tire Tax). Didnt complain...took one week to order and an hour to install. The Goodyear dealler I went to ordered before they inspected. Cool instal guy with a GTO told the sales person he didnt want me being without my truck.

Stopped by my local "Just Tires" yesterday and they are ordering me the tires. Should be in later this week. The guy there told me he has done 2 Jeeps thus far and both needed all 4 tires replaced :D

Can anyone give me a guess about how many miles a set of our OE tires should last? I am at 8,000 miles and trying to decide if I want to drive 75 miles to my nearest Goodyear EMT dealer to get them checked out. Thanks.

Hey Ft. Collins
A friend of mine who lives in Longmont just had the tires replaced by Discount Tire stoe on South Hover St. in Longmont. They only had to call in to Goodyear with the Vin and DOT (his is an early 06) and they sent all new tires to Discount without any inspection requirement all all.

I haven't been able to find a Goodyear dealer in Denver (I live South of Denver) that has even seen one of our trucks much less knows anything about this recall. Dealers also don't seem to know who is inspecting tires. I plan to call this Discount store with my info and see if they can handle mine the same way.

By the way, what ever happened to those plans to get all the owners in Denver Metro area to meet up?
