: BBills NEW Latest release: A NAG1 TRANS BRAKE!
BuilderBill 07-12-2009, 02:30 PM Yep….a Patented trans brake for the NAG1:)
*This will NEVER in its current form be sold as a “kit”
The work involved in transforming a NAG1 into a NAG1 with a trans. brake is tremendous.
I basically added an additional valve body into the case. This involves machine work on the case.
I needed to further modify internal clutch packs and drums.
Then tying my valve body into the original valve body. Whew.
The only external clue is a short solenoid on the rear passenger side of the case, installed on the flat webbed portion, midway up the case.
I’m working on a remote mounted trans cooler with a fan.
Screwing around with mine, my temps quickly reached 245F….not good.
Also looking into a Moroso trans overflow tank. I needed to use some overflow passages in the tranny case.
This is NOT something to use for more than a moment when staged.
The torque converter is literally trying to tear apart the fluid with a trans brake.
With my 3,000 stall converter, I find the hardest launch is obtained by the following procedure:
*Pre-stage & stage.
*Brake torque to about 2,000 rpm and hit the button. This builds line pressure to lock the tranny.
*Hold the button and raise the rpm to about 300 below your stall speed. ( I wish I could find a stutter box for our vehicles as that would make the launch simple.)
*On the appropriate light, simultaneously, release the button and floor it. The torque converter will then flash about 100 rpm above the actual stall speed.
My jeep now launches HARD!
Oh...it throws NO codes either.
Again, this will only be available as an upgrade on one of my existing or new High Torque Capacity NAG1’s.
$1,495.00

Jeff,
Haven't seen you for a while.
Hope you and your family are doing well.
Yeah, this is some piece of work.
Being in your business, you can see what I went through to get this into a working production piece.

Been busy Bill, not the SRT but the other Jeep, and working all the time.
Crank 07-12-2009, 05:35 PM Congrats Bill. Pm me
navyavi469 07-12-2009, 06:46 PM Bill you just took another SECOND off the ET's we will see next year. I salute you.
Chevy and Ford Beware, the Hemi aftermarket is going to bring the smackdown!!!
Chris Hull@TTC 07-12-2009, 07:00 PM Nice Bill, I could tell from the little time you have been spending on the forums that you were hard at work getting this off the ground. Great pioneerage, if thats a word I'll have to ask Winston!! lol
Vinnysrt8 07-12-2009, 07:35 PM good job bill where the video of it in action
Crank 07-13-2009, 12:33 AM I have a few questions, as I am not familiar on how this works.
1. Want to clarify something, this does not affect its drivablity?
2. On a daily driver it would drive the same and just an added option to
use the brake at the track?
3. Is this something similiar to say the launch button on a GTR?
4. Do we have to upgrade our torque converters?
5. Lasty, can we use this with our stock rear end?
lots of questions, but just want to know how this system works and if I should get it.

You may want to clarify that your torque converter is not some aftermarket converter, that has been "advertised" to be 3,000rpm without knowing 3,000 rpm based on what size engine or torque curve!?:thinkerg:
Dont want all the newbies to rush out and buy some aftermarket unit not understanding how a torque converter is really rated. I guess thats for another thread.

1). NO effect on driveability in ANY way.
2) Exactly....on a daily driver, you would only use this typically at the track.
3) I use a simple line lock or trans brake switch. Mine is hidden in wallet compartment left of the steering wheel.
4) Time will tell on stock converters. They will be my next offering as they are being tested now.
5) The driveline will certainly see more stress.

I certainly know what stall speed converter I have as the trans brake is the only real way to measure stall speed.
I think many will be shocked that their "2,800" stall converter does not stall at 2,800 rpm.;)
Bill
navyavi469 07-13-2009, 07:06 AM I would wait for a few Beta Testers to come out and Bill to make his notorious "next upgrade" or revision to this thing first ;-)
Granted he will install whatever modifications he does as his own cost, but there will be a version 2.0 out shortly.
Blown-WK 07-13-2009, 08:02 AM AWESOME Bill, talk about bang for the buck. I don't believe any other mod currently available will knock down your ET like a solid performing trans brake. As if our beasts didn't already lauch hard enough.... 1.4 60' will now be the norm:eek::eek::eek:
navyavi469 07-13-2009, 08:07 AM This will help the turbo applications out more than anything. Superchargers and Nitrous already spin all four corners off the line... having a transbrake won't do much. Turbos that need to spool are a different story.
Now you could theoretically engineer a "launch mode" for a turbocharged application. Maybe a window-switch on the shifter so you could just press a button when that 3rd yellow hit :D
rwboring 07-13-2009, 08:38 AM ^^ yeah being able to pre-boost would help out a TON... that is how Rob is cutting 1.8-1.9's with his 3.0 (spinning all 4)... and that is with a 400wtq truck... :)
navyavi469 07-13-2009, 09:43 AM Chris smokes his front and rears off the line, and probably still runs a high 1.7's at the most. Jeeps are SO HEAVY that 1.5's and 1.4's are going to be very hard to get without super super sticky tires.
rwboring 07-13-2009, 10:08 AM the way i see it is, once you get to times that RWD cars are using slicks it is going to be hard for the jeep to keep up (unless you run rwd with slicks), this is the same reason why the TBSS rwd is so track friendly (when you use slicks)... if you cant spin the rear tires then there is no reason to have AWD
the jeep shines on the street because of AWD but when you start throwing rwd cars having traction against it... well its going to be hard to win...
take a stock Z06 with an average driver against a 11.9 jeep we know and it will be close... put slicks on the Z06 and see what happens!

Yeah, actually, the main reason for the tranny brake was that I was NOT going to do that emergency brake thing.
It will be great to build boost.
Let's see what it does for times from the guys who have PM'd me and ordered one.
Bill
navyavi469 07-13-2009, 12:10 PM Bill when are you going to get around to installing that $17,000 Henneseey Kit??
BuilderBill 07-13-2009, 12:15 PM Bill when are you going to get around to installing that $17,000 Henneseey Kit??
As soon as my fuel system is complete.;)
I'm working with Fore Precision on a fuel hat and VERY unique "basket".
I'm not half a$$ing it with some POS fuel system.
Oh, I will make the ENTIRE fuel system available for purchase, COMPLETE from pumps (3) to the SS lines and fittings all the way to the billet rails with integral pressure regulator and gauge.

BuilderBill 07-16-2009, 09:50 PM 1. Junior666.......
haaaa,
Could have guessed that.
We will run (30 ft or so) the pooch against the beast.
The tranny break launches hard, it actually shows me I probably need a bit more converter on the pooch.
Oh, as you know I went back to a stock converter.
Yep, I tranny brake stall it to 3,000rpm and then let her loose.
This weekend will tell a lot.;);)
Converter development.
Amazing the converter companies that are now interested in my findings and ready willing and able to work with BBill.
What this means is there will be a ton of development in this area and you guys will be a few tenths quicker....GUARANTEED!:)

I'm pushing out another 4 tranny brake high optioned torque capacity torque capacity trannys this week.
Sorry, I don't understand the question:confused::confused: Updates?
They work and are production released.
I'm currently verifying stall speeds with my new torque converters on my tranny brake equipped tranny.
I am trying to build up stock on the tranny brake equiped NAG1's like all my other components.:)
