I am planning on purchasing a 7year/100,000 mile Service Contract with a $100 or $50 deductible. I was wondering, what is a fair price for this type of Service Contract?

Just don't plan on getting the lifetime powertrain warranty.

Chrysler Lifetime Warranty
2006 and newer Chrysler vehicles could qualify for a Lifetime Powertrain warranty or upgrade to a full bumper-to-bumper Lifetime warranty. You must be the original owner. Viper, all SRT vehicles, Sprinter, Ram Cab/Chassis, diesel equipped vehicles and some non-personel use vehicles are excluded.

Have you had to use it and was it worth the money?

I only have 24000 miles on the jeep so it wont kick in until the jeep is over 3yr or has 36001 miles on it. I allways buy this warranty and yes i have used them at least once on every mopar i have owned. When i get ready to buy a new car i cancell the warranty and chrysler pro rates it and sends me money back.

If you need a transfercase or tranny that alone will cover more than the cost of what the warranty cost.

Please don't misinterpret this, but many people get confused regarding their warranties. It seems as though you have the Chrysler one, although I do not know which one.

Regardless, Chrysler, like 90+ % of the warranties starts their coverage from the in service date of the vehicle, and at 0 mileage. It does not kick in at the end of the factory original warranty, and continue for the period you signed up for. (like lets say you bought a 4 year 50,000 mile extended warranty when you bought the vehicle new........the clock starts ticking on both the years and mileage the day you bought that warranty.....(It could very well be the same day you bought the car). So what I am saying is that in this case, that warranty will only cover that vehicle in reality for 1 additional year and 14,000 miles after the factory limited warranty of 3yrs/36,000 miles was up.

In this case the "coverage" starts the day you buy the plan. HOWEVER...the "term" (years & mileage) starts at the vehicles original in service date.

Read the link below. About 7th paragraph down.

http://www.chryslerwarrantys.com/frequently_asked_questions.cfm#7

Example below (Mercury) which AAA uses. The coverage starts on application/purchase date,..... Mileage is mileage period it is what it is... BUT the years start when you buy the coverage.
So if you bought coverage for let's say four years,...... after you've owned the vehicle for two already, you still have four years left from the date you purchased coverage.

To me they are confusing in many areas, and you really have to read the fine print.

Most are transferable, some with a small fee involved. I believe prorated refunds on any unused time/mileage is a common part of all the ones I've seen.

TEDA your the in service date when it come to replacing patrs, they have to use new parts with the factory new car warranty anmd after the 3/36000 is over they can use rebuilt parts or new parts with the exstended warranty.

I ALLWAYS BUY THE CHRYSLER FACTORY EXSTENDED WARRANTYS.

Don't fully understand your post, but I don't believe they "have" to use new parts up til the 36,000 miles you state.

See attached. Pg 5, #2, 2.1-3.

I'm sure you'll find many who have had to fight tooth and nail to get a "new" tranny or diff as opposed to a "reman". Some succeed, others don't.

On any exstended warranty claim after the factory 3/36000 they have the option to use remanufactored or new parts been there done that. If in dout call the warranty people in detroit and ask them. I been there done that. Now if they have changed in the last 3 yrs then i stand corrected.

Not trying to get into a pissing contest here, just trying to be informative. That most recent link, including 4.1 is referring to the original oem factory warranty. Has nothing to do with extended warranties like we have been discussing. The only thing in my link that refers to extended warranties regards rust or emissions.

I'm familiar with 4.1. My previous post simply indicates that I did not agree with your statement that during original warranty period of 36,000 miles they "have" to use new parts.

The oem warranty clearly states in 4.1 that they may use new, reman, recon, or repaired parts. NOT just new. Not sure I understand your position.

All is well, glad you're happy with whatever coverage you have, that's all that counts. :)

bought the exteneded MaxCare on both the Vipeer and the GC SRT*. I need a window regulator for the Viper @ &1700 a few months ago. It cost me $100. In Florida the dealers can not discount warrenties but I buy from Woodhouse and they can offer pricing. Chrysler sells at list price but you can negociate with a dealer.

No need for sorry. You sound like someone who at least has done their homework, and when figuring possible future out of pocket expenses decided to go with a warranty. Me too.

I jumped in this thread cause I'm sure many have bought warranties that they have had problems with, and did not really look into the fine print or what company they were buying that warranty from. There are several warranty providers who have gone under.

I personally (particularly after talking with my tech/service manager regarding work approval and payouts, at my dealer who is outstanding) have never bought a warranty from anyone other than Chrysler or AAA underwritten by Mercury.

I suggest to all who have or are comtemplating getting an extended warranty, that they seriously do their homework and read the fine print. Can definitely save some aggravation down the road.
