: Optimal launching technique
JDR07 03-01-2007, 01:50 AM OK this is kind of a dumb question, but i want to be sure before i start powerbraking willy nilly and screw something up...what technique gets the best launches without doing potential damage to the truck?
thanks to everyone for all the help and advice with the issues ive had so far, a little over a month of ownership and i really really really love this vehicle :D
ResumeSpeed 03-01-2007, 04:04 AM Scratch power-braking from the list, it offers no advantage at the track and puts extreme pressure on a lot of components. From what I have seen most owners get the best times launching in "D", w/o power-braking. Some have aired-up their tires a few lbs. but don't know that it has made any measurable difference. Traction control on/off doesn't seem to make a difference either.

no power-braking
use "D"
traction control did not see to be a huge factor one way or the other.
The biggest help launching was to drop the REAR tire pressure to 25psi.
I did not see any gain by pumping the fronts to 42psi.Basically, floor it and hold on! It is the easiest vehicle out there to launch.

HoustonSRT-8 03-01-2007, 07:51 AM So "D", not autostick? Is there even a difference?
Dr.Steve 03-01-2007, 07:56 AM has anyone tried launching at the track in auto-stick with the new TCM upgrade and auto upshifting??

On the '07 I found no difference from "D" or Autostick.

MegaSRT-8 03-01-2007, 09:29 AM The best use for the autostick is coming around corners with the track control off - lots of fun! Other than that, launching in "D" is your best option.
FastSRT8GC 03-01-2007, 09:32 AM Very low power brake works best for me1000-1500 just enough to jump out of the hole. Most vehicels that are 4x4 from a dig needed to reved up mostly the turbos. A lot of stress on the driveline of course. But when the race is close that extra couple of .10's in the 60ft will help.
My Ford F350 turbo i had to spool up to about 20psi of boost and had a 1.7 60ft with a 8500lb Truck. BUT, i went through two trans rebuilds mostly due to the extra power with no mods to the trans.
JMO, from many years of dragging/street racing..... DON'T Flame me please!

I'm gonna have to try that. :D

Agree...............
OurZoo 03-01-2007, 10:39 PM Never really pushed the GC without the traction control on. I do generally use autostick when making fast turns though.
timster 03-02-2007, 07:59 AM my best 0-60 time are with the traction control off... go figure
Marshallout 03-02-2007, 08:02 AM Autostick for me is best used when i come into a exit off ramp ....feels like a stick baby!!!!!!!!
MegaSRT-8 03-05-2007, 02:45 PM Even with traction off, there's enough electronic control to keep you from losing it - too much help to be honest. Just don't try it pulling in front of traffic...
My best time was with autostick and traction off
DRIHEAT 03-06-2007, 02:15 PM "D"...stomp & steer:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
TORQUER 03-06-2007, 04:03 PM I ran a 1.775 60' with 06 TCM Flash /auto stick/ traction control off/ 1500rpm launch and let the TCM shift on its own after bumping it down to "1".It STILL over-revved at the 2-3 shift. I thought the flash was supposed to also fix the 2-3 shift.Big grin anyway!
Inferno SRT8 03-06-2007, 04:41 PM Brake stalling will actually hurt your times at the track, trust me. Anything over 1500 and you will go over the power band of the converter and your times will suffer.
