Picked my Jeep up on Saturday, and have 300 miles on it now. First I must say this thing is a beast! I love it! I have noticed that when accelerating from about 20 mph to 40-45 mph under moderate throttle, I get a whirl noise from the rear end. It goes away quickly and doesn't seem to hurt performance. Any one else experience this same noise? Mines an 07 w/ a build date of Jan. 31.

I believe the noise eminates from a clutch set in the transfer case and that they all make this noise.

Some are worse than others. I have had mine back to the dealer several times for the same issue. There is a service bulletin out from Jeep on this now. Seems that several differentials had been changed out by dealers before the note came out.

I've always chalked it up to driveline noise, but I'm definitely interested in this service bulletin.

I heard this same noise after about 300 miles. So far doesn't seem to hurt anything.

The dry bearing noise I've been hearing from the power steering pump hasn't hurt anything yet either, but that doesn't mean it won't.

Experiencing the same thing on my '06. Doesn't sound good.
Is it the TSB 21-005-06 ?

Thanks,

My dealer said this was a normal noise for the SRT8. They said mine sounded fine. Maybe they've never heard one yet without the problem?

I'm taking mine in today. We will see what they say.
I just find it hard to believe that the dry bearing grinding sound I am hearing is normal. It is even louder with traction control off. Perhaps I am experiencing something different then others.

Took the car in today. After explaining the noise to the service advisor, she had me take the truck around for a test drive with the "shop foreman." I explain to him that I I hear it mostly going into a right turn at about 20mph, then moderately accelerating. He does this and say "Hmm, does not sound good." Next turn, he goes in at 20 at hits it to 80. "Hmm, does not sound good."
First they flashed the AWD module with TSB 21-005-06 (more later), and then informed me they were not satisfied. They are ordering a new transfer case from Michigan.
They (Arrigo Dodge) said to bring back the car Wednesday, and they will replace the transfer case.
So I pick up the truck, and WOW!
Look, I'm no car guru, but the "driving" is much better, and more aggressive (flash). As most, I thought it's a placebo, and have my wife drive. 1st she almost hits the tree in our driveway because of how "jumpy" the Jeep is, then she says "WOW!"

I no longer hear the grind/howl (but will not tell the dealer, as it's a new transfer case), and the truck responds much more aggressively to the throttle. We will see if the new transfer case makes a difference.

Sorry for the "random" explanation. If you have any questions, I will try to help.

Thanks,
