I drove the wifes in about 4" of snow and slush yesterday for about 50 - 60 miles and seem to do fine unless you mashed the gas.

HONEST??? Hmmm, here is my honest reply. I have a set of Pirelli Scorpion ICE and SNOW set on right now. You can get around with out any problems, BUT it is not a vehicle designed for snow nor does it have the performance of a SUV in and on snow covered roads. I have a 05 4Runner LTD and with all seasons it is night and day what a difference it is to drive in snow. 4Runner is superior in this field. You will find that the vehicle stabilization control kicks in lots as well as the stupid traction control is very jerky when ON as it applies the brakes on the spinning wheel, with this much power and torque it is not as good as a normal SUV like a 4Runner or any other. One thing that I think would make it more fun and less irritating to drive would be for the driver to be able to turn off both the VSC and traction control. At the moment we can not turn off the vehicle stabilization control.

Having an infiniti qx4 before ( basically a pathfinder ) it is a different car - the qx4 would have no problem in a blizzard but the braking sucked - i nearly slid into another car infront of me - ironically i was driving the srt8 earlier in the same blizzard type weather and as long as you feather the throttle you'll be fine - the only problem you might have is in deep slush snow because the sidewalls are so small. But on the other hand the srt8 definitly outbroke the qx4, it didn't slide at all on hard braking - just stopped. So honestly...for about 90% of the winters' you'll be fine - you wont get stuck, but you'll have to be cautious.

Agree. My wife had a 99 and 02 Pathfinder.

Massachusetts here on stock RSA's with no issue. It is what it is. You just need to be careful. Drive slow. Normal winter driving techniques and you will prevail.

PA here. No problems. I also own a Nissan Titan.

+1 on the go easy on the throttle comments.

As long as there are no clearance issues, I'm happy with mine on stock Goodyears in both snow and ice.

I have to agree with the others. As long as you take it easy on the throttle, you'll be fine. Owned a large variety of suv's and trucks in the past and I have to say considering the large wheels we have on our SRT-8's, I'm quite impressed with the way it handles in the snow on stock tires.

Good results also. Turning off traction control in deeper snow helps. These tires are M/S rated but are still the limiting factor in snow.

Second to clearance, IMO. Unless we're just talking powder.

Been there and done it. If I have to....I will, but its not my first choice for a snow vehicle. Gobs of HP don't really help get by on performance tires (calling them M&S is a joke).

Rather drive my wife's Acura TSX before the Jeep.

with Blizzak LM-25 on 18"s, no complaints. Like anything, you just need to get used to your vehicule. Like when I went from a FWD car to a RWD car, there is an adjustment period and as long as you;re careful, you'll be fine.

Ok then there is better things in the snow, but when I only have money for one car and I wanted the best performance possible. It is not perfect but real close to the best all around street car possible in any conditions.

question is where do you live ? I live in chicago -the srt8 is perfect for me, the kickass performance in the summer and the awd suv that is necessary to get around in the winter.

You just said it, and I live in Wyoming so I know snow and ice. With ice and snow tires I give up very little to anything out there and still have a performance car that handles better than most sports cars. Faster as well.

The horsepower really isn't an issue IMO. The traction control (if left on) doesn't allow the vehicle to get out off hand. I am located in SE PA, and the only decent storm we had was on Valentine's Day. We had about 4" of snow and ice (doesn't sound like much, but that snow and ice closed down I-78 for 3 days). A real mess to be honest. It handled GREAT!

BTW - my wife drives a a TSX as well, and I drive a black GCSRT8. I think we are living parallel lives :D

Your GC black and her TSX White?

Around here its like the old Paula Abdul "Opposites Attract" song. She can't for her life figure why I love tons of torque and loud pipes.

I had no problem in snow, slush, ice in Chicago. Common sense and the Jeep will get you home!

We don't get much snow in Seattle, but it's snowed 3 times this year. We got 9 inches of it overnight and for the first time I left the SRT in the garage and drove th wife's commander today, just for clearance issues. Other than that it the SRT is a fairly capable snow car.

Drove home from work last night (30 miles) in 6+ inches of snow and sleet. No problems. In fact, I took the most uphill roads as a test and because those roads are not as congested (I don't trust all the idiots on the road who don't slow down in the snow). One road, about 1 mile long, was uphill at a pretty steep grade. The road was partially plowed but slick. I went up it with no problems.

The Jeep has really surpised me. I don't do snow tires and the stockers have done fine so far this winter. We still have a few months left and I expect they will continue to work fine.

No great, but pretty darn good.

Ok we are having our spring blizzard and I can say this thing just goes. Now I realize that using it for a snow plow would soon wear the paint off the front bumper. 24" drifts 30' long were no match just kept going, now I have driven in enough snow, to not stop in the middle of such a drift, or I would still have been in it. I no longer have to gess if it will get around in the deep snow I know it will. Deep wet drifts were no match for our Jeep. I have perilli scorpion ice and snows 275-40s on stock wheels they are wider than I would have liked but get what you can and they work well. The traction control is constantly shifting around looking for the best grip and it does it very well. I bought the Jeep because I wanted my hot rod that could be driven year around and it does everthing I have asked of it very very well

Ronald, thanks for the tire infomation. I live in Boulder and considering the same tires you bought. I wanted to confirm from your post that you put these tires on the stock 20x9 fronts and 20x10 rears? Did you also just use them for the winter?

Thanks
Eric

Started out with stock front and back, but now have stock 9" all around. This allows me to rotate 275/40 20 pirelli's. The 10" worked fine but leaves them a little exposed and looks better with same all around.
