What up guys -
My temperature gauge in my gc srt8 is jumping around from 207 degrees to 222 degrees during normal driving and when I am driving hard?? Has anyone else experienced this?? I've taken it the the dealership about 4 times for it during scheduled maintenance issues and they always "CLAIM" to check and say everything is cool?
But when I drive, the thing will jump from 215 to 222 about 3 times when I just drive down the street to the store. Then it will drop to about 207 when i go on the freeway
What is going on here?? Anyone know?? I would love some input because Jeep has given me none.

Mine will general set around 207 until a good hard run and then it will jump up into the neighborhood of 220 and then fall back into the normal range.

The factory thermostat is a 203. My gauge reading was about 207 when I had it. The gauge reads about 6 degrees higher than the dashhawk, I think the dashhawk is closer to correct.
I have experienced this same run up as well. When you are on the highway, air flow through the radiator is high and the temps go or stay down. However, get caught in traffic or pull into a parking ramp after being on the highway and the temps zoom. I have gone well over 230 on the guage.
Part of problem is the fans do not come on, especially with the AC off. The first thing to try is to turn the air on. This will make the fans come on at a lower temp. You can also get the Jet 180 thermostat. It will not stop the run ups, but you start at a much lower base reading (185). The most elegant solution is to get a Predator, which will allow you to adjust the fan on and off temps with and without air. Another, solution is the fan mod (do a search), which is a switch under the dash to turn on the fans.
I don't care what the dealer says and what the engineers say, repeated trips up to high temps are really hard on an engine, especially the aluminum parts that can check and crack.

Thank MNBob for the input. Some really good points, especially since I drive about 75% of the time with my AC off and fan off for the most part - I just cruise the windows down.
In your opinion is it something that I should go have checkout once and for all?
Or do you think it is a normal operating thing with this ride we have?

Mine does the exact same thing. It just seems like our Jeep run a lil hot, while driving in bumper to bumper traffic. I have a motorcycle and it does the same thing and gets a lil hot.

The dealer will tell you this is normal and it is so it will do no good to have it checked out. In my opinion, that does not mean it should be ignored (high temps are harmful).
A lot of the forum members have done at least one action to combat this problem. The most common is a 180 or even a 170 thermostat. I listed some of the others above. Here is a link to the fan mod thread and includes a link to the fan mod by FastSRT8GC:

Aight - I am definitely hearing you on the Predator - I have heard good things.
But I have also heard some bad things like the shifts are harder or more stressful on the vehicle, to the point of hurting it?? I mean I would like a performance tune but can I still drive it daily without screwing it up?? Would my tranny or AWD be affected??
Anybody have the Predator with some input??
