For all you guys thinking about doing chrome....I just spoke to www.sportchrome.com . They do absolutely stellar work and are very dependable. Anyways to chrome the SRT wheels it would be $150 for chrome per wheel and $250 for black chrome per wheel.
They are in Cali and it would take about 6 weeks. I know that its a good wait but they are totally worth it. Plus they do other colors too.
I would highly recommend them to you as a worry free shop.
And I believe the warranty is like a year and a half on the finish....But I could be wrong.
HoustonSRT-8 02-28-2007, 03:34 PM Black chrome?!

checked out the web site they have two kinds of black chrome http://calchrome.com/service_menu.php
8-10 days?! Boy, they better either have some serious technology, no other work, or I hope you got a warranty. I've NEVER heard of chrome beign turned around that fast. It's almost always 1-2 months. That is awesome!

i know if you take a look at the web site this place is hard core
Also, another shop that I've had GREAT results with, is also in Los Angeles. Globe Tire & Motorsports. Phone is: 310/836-0804 & web http://www.globemotorsports.com/. They won't be the cheapest you find, but their work is impeccable.
The last set they did for me was turning the painted centers on my GFGs to chrome.

OurZoo 02-28-2007, 04:20 PM The wheels look terrific!!! CalChrome is located in Valencia about 25 miles from me. I met one of the owners last month at the meet in Woodland Hills. He drives a 300CSRT8. I was considering using them for my Charger. They would even drive over to my house, jack up the Charger, take 2 of the wheels and replace with 300 wheels, and then do the other two several days later. I've been sitting on this for awhile but all the expensive mods are on hold for awhile.
Your shop definitely looks like they do a boatload of wheels! Cool pictures of their process!

jlandbl 02-28-2007, 05:51 PM All I can say is WOW! I wish I was able to go without wheels for a while to get this done. But the SRT8 is my daily transportation.
idealrides 03-02-2007, 07:48 PM that chrome looks fantastic!
i don't mean to burst any bubbles but I've read more than once that chroming somehow significantly weakens the structural integrity of a wheel. I'm not sure how much this effect occurs when the wheel is forged but it's something I would look into before going ahead with this.
Actually a friend of mine is a metals expert, he manufactures the curing ovens that powdercoating companies use around the world, if anyone is really interested I can call him to get the answer.

whipple1 03-03-2007, 12:46 AM Those wheels look really nice in chrome super shiny,Just remember how easy these wheels are to get curb damage, the polished you will get scratched or nicked ,chrome wheels get curbed you see the copper clading and chunks of chrome peeling off, plus the chrome will pit to the weather(salt, snow, rain).I had some bad experiences with chrome, stay away unless it a show car.
TXBLU 03-03-2007, 09:03 AM Eventually, I plan on stripping the clear coat from my wheels and polishing them properly. Once I'm happy with the polishing, I'll shoot a few coats of clear back over them. I might even paint the SRT letters before I clear them, but I'm not sure what color to use. Hopefully that will look a lot better than the factory polish/clear coat job, but probably not as good as chrome plating. Time will tell, if I ever get around to doing it.

Do you have pics of the rims on the truck? How are they holding up? Did they chrome the inside of the rims also?

My rims are vacationing at a resort outside of Atlanta. Its called the chrome connection. They have been there for about 5 weeks now, should get them back in another week or so. I too like the chrome look of the stock rim. I paid somewhere around $1,300.00 for them to be stripped and chromed:eek:

DABEARS1 01-07-2008, 09:45 AM I still want the forgiato's, but might go all chrome. I found this place on ebay that does the chrome exchange (they send you chrome rims, you send back yours) they do for all makes. The listing is for the Charger SRT rims, I'm sure if a few of us wanted this done they would do the GC SRT rim as well...

This is the place I went to. They do outstanding work. I'm definitely going to use them for both rides. The problem is they don't have any cores for the GCs and they don't want to pay full price for them. They called me as recently as 1/4/08 to let me know they are still looking. I've tried turning them onto some for sale here, but guys are trying to get more than they are willing to pay. They just need to bite the bullet and buy at least one set and the money they'll make will cover what they spend in no time. That's just my opinion of course and it ain't my business to run.

You could have had 8 rims done for that price. California Chrome Wheel charges about $150.00 per wheel. ($600.00 for 4)
http://www.calchrome.com/service_chrome.php#priceturn
PRICING & TURNAROUND TIME
For chrome plating of alloy 1 piece wheels (wheel type guide) you send to us to process, the pricing starts at $125.00 per wheel. If the wheel requires an accessory to be processed, such as the center cap or lug nuts, these items are priced seperately. Please ask for a quotation. Normal automotive, one piece wheel production time is aproximately 7 to 10 work days. Sometimes production length can be longer due to circumstances such as our work load and/or the intricacy/design of the wheel you are sending us to chrome plate. For specialty designs such as multi-piece wheels etc., please contact us for quotations.

Rick G 01-08-2008, 04:55 AM Well I've decided to go ahead and have them chromed. I just hope the chrome doesn't weaken the structural integrity of the wheels and they fall apart as I'm driving down the street.

Internet BS!
No scientific evidence to support this claim.
The potential problem is corrosion caused by clorides/salt.
I would only buy factory (OEM) chrome rims because they are produced in a approved and controled process/environment.
If your rims will be subject to clorides, aftermarket chrome rims will not hold up overtime.
For $1,300.00 they must be using "structural" chrome;)

I could not agree with you more. Besides, why would all these companies be chroming wheels if it was gonna weaken the structural integrity.

Is there a place in LA that chromes wheels?
OurZoo 01-09-2008, 10:25 AM LA Wheel in Van Nuys or Cal Chrome in Valencia.
domeztictunerz 01-09-2008, 11:17 AM those look delicious.
$1,300 may be high, but I feel $600.00 is to low. Look at what's involved. Rims need to be stripped, don't forget, to properly dispose of these solvents cost money. The rims now have to be polished and detailed prior to the chroming process. We all know the cost of labor and to properly chrome a used rim takes some labor. I did check out the vendor I used and felt confident of their work. I was not shopping around for the cheapest.

Brian,
As a business man you have it figured out.
Your customers and mine also get what the pay for and I'll bet in your business you are NOT the cheapest BUT the best.
Some people figure it out and others never will!
After all, that is another reason you have Bryan doing your build....1st class guy.

MoparNut 01-20-2008, 11:29 AM Hey!!!
Yep. Mine are being chromed as we speak. I'm not using them in the winter so I decided to bite the bullet and get them chromed. I think they look awesome!! Once I get them back I'll be putting on the new non-runflats tires and waiting for spring to come. I can't wait.......Wheels America is another company out there. I've used them before for fixing wheels and chroming. They do a great job and have about 9 places around the country. Though, they don't charge 600.00 neither. www.fixrim.com they have plenty of before/after shots.

I didn't know they did chroming. What's their cost and expected turnaround for the Jeep rims?
MoparNut 01-20-2008, 07:04 PM Hey!!!
Yea, they do chroming too just not at most locations. They send them out to CA no matter where you are. I brought them to the LI,NY location and they take care of s/h from there. I'm having my wheels totally refurbished than chromed since the guy before me who only had the Jeep a very short while managed to curb every wheel if you can believe that one. Anyway, it's running 1200.00 cash for the total job and turn around time is about 5 weeks. I believe they normally charge 1400 plus tax for 20" wheels. That didn't matter to me since I took my wheels off for the winter and was planning this since I picked up my SRT.
Paul:cool:
Mine are due back any day now. MatFab and I have decided on the tires. We are going with Vredestein that will go on my rims from the Atlanta guy and be the everyday tire. We are also going with a Nitto drag radials for the rear and we have picked up 2 rear rims from other members of this forum. I am going to send these to the Company Rick is using (CalChrome) and will compare. The 4 coming back from Atlanta will be the one's on the vehicle the most.

radshop 01-21-2008, 03:52 PM Calchrome specializes in chrome plating wheels. That's all they do. When you specialize, you can be the best at an affordable price. Nearly all chrome shops send their wheels to California for chrome plating. If you buy them from some other shop, you may be getting Calchrome's wheels anyway at a higher price. I had my wheels chromed at Calchrome and they are at the top of the food chain.

MoparNut 01-22-2008, 10:20 AM Hey!!!
Yep you're probably right. I've also heard that most states don't allow for this processing and thats why most places ship them to CA. I suppose the cost for setting up a proper facility is very high do to the state codes they are suppose to follow. Another reason for many places to farm out there work and just add on there fees.

URSSOSLOW 01-22-2008, 08:30 PM yep so far they are doing just fine, weve had one week of some bad weather. the state has salted roads, i just spray on some all wheel cleaner and they are like new again. I originally got this done after i had a curbed wheel, my choice was to pay 1700.00 for a stock rim, or get it fixed. The guy told me he could fix it and clearcoat again, but couldnt guarantee the clear to match up and the wheel would look 80% new.He told me if i went chrome they would be 100% new looking and damage would be undetectable. He was right when i got them back i couldnt tell which wheel was damaged. That wheel was a mess when i took it to them. I wish i would have taken some before and after shots. But i would go for it. I get all kinds of complements from the chrome. I hated the polished wheel look it showed so many hairline scratches and were a pain to keep clean, chrome is the way to go. Chrome wont get you home , but it will get you laid.:D
