: PORSCHE buys JEEP!!!
jaybruce 02-28-2007, 07:38 AM well, two actually... I just heard from my friend that porsche has a demo disk at the dealership(here in germany) where they have the jeeps they purchased going against the cayanne on trails, salt flats, etc. He has a cayanne and was invited to a showing of the new/upcoming model.I haven't seen the video myself yet. It looks like there trying to show how they have a superior vehicle since it can go off-road. Guess they've never heard of a Wrangler.
gculver 02-28-2007, 07:53 AM The new cayene tubro is pretty badass!! 500hp with 5,000+ towing
and off-road capabilities . Sounds badass to me!
hound 02-28-2007, 07:58 AM Sounds like a lame marketing strategy. For $95,000 you could buy the fastest SUV (WK-SRT8) and also one bad ass off-road machine.
I think it would be a safe bet that anyone who spent $95,000 on an SUV would dare take it off-road anyways.

I'm with you. Sounds like a pretty killer ride to me.
jaybruce 02-28-2007, 08:06 AM It IS a sweet ride!! I just dont like that there comparing off-road abilities when jeep never designed the SRT8 for offroad in the first place.
Ink Pump 02-28-2007, 08:16 AM I certainly liked the Cayenne I test drove but I couldn't get past the fact that it didn't look 100K. Until you get up close it really could be any of the multitude of SUVs. Only the fully equiped turbo looked special. The SRT however looks special at first glance!

Funny you should say that Mike. I have a friend who works for VW Wolfsburg in R&D. He was part of the team that developed the use of the Taureg chassis for Porsche.he said a number of parts from the Taureg are used by Porsch for the Cayenne.

Poor argument since you can't magically switch to a Wrangler in the middle of a drive if you decide to go off-road. Compare one vehicle to one vehicle, not two vehicles to one.
nagra8 02-28-2007, 12:53 PM When we bought our range rover supercharged we drove 3 vehicles the new escalade the cayenne turbo and the range. imo the range is the best but i have found a new favorite the audi with the lemans racing engine in it i think it will be game over for porsche when that comes out. oh yah and the escalade was terrible they have to improve on there water bed suspension technology.
Blown-WK 02-28-2007, 02:04 PM We just received our first 2008 Cayenne Turbo a few days ago and its honestly an incredible SUV. Don't get me wrong I still love the SRT8 but if I had the extra money I would take a Cayenne Turbo. The new 4.8 Turbo motor is soooooo smooth and has an incredible powerband. The stock 21's and air suspension are nice too...haha.

depends on what your version of offroad is. if you're satisfied with non paved roads then ok but that porsche wouldnt do it for me.

amaze139 02-28-2007, 04:13 PM Porshe is so overrated! Especially the Cayenne. The SRT8 is much more of a performance vehicle, and not to mention much more visually appealing. It's so much more aggresive! The cayenne looks more like its a womans ride IMO.
BlackedOut 02-28-2007, 04:32 PM Yea same here still for half the price i can have the best of both worlds, my Jeep SRT8 and lifted Wrangler. although the porsche is bad-ass but i still think its overpriced. Also its kinda lame for them to exploit the off-road aspect of their turbo since very very few people who spend $100,000 plus on a car are going to take even on a dirt road. that's just common sense i think. so trying to exploit that the jeep cant go off-road (because it wasn't built with that even in mind) is weak. Its actually a compliment that they would go this far because it shows that they know the jeep is better in some aspect and is probably affecting their sales.. just my guess but i like to have the srt8 for speed and the wrangler for serious off road use
