: Check tire press. system display

Bought my 07 in December. For the past 6 weeks the "check tire press. system" display on the dash appears off and on. It usually stays on for a minute and then goes away, only to appear again later. Dealer has checked it twice and can't find the problem. Any ideas?

This seems to be a commom problem for some. Dealers seemingly aren't able to do anything for it yet. Word around is DCX is aware of it and we're waiting for a TSB to address it.

Is correct. I get it in my '07 as well. 12/06 build date. Is harmless, so will wait for a fix, but if you just hit the compass/temp, and then back, its gone.

It seems to happen when the weather is crappy out. Havent had it come on in a few days now.

First check and make sure if your tires are lossing air pressure. Check your Jeep SRT8 rims on from the inner side, not the face side, That their weekest point and without a proper inspection you will keep blaming the sensor when in fact they are working correctly, if your sensors go on when the tire are cold they could go off once you run your vehicle because the hot air inside increse the air pressure. Check your valve stem seal, The tire pressure monitor is located in the base of valve stem. There is an o ring on the valve stem that could be damaged if over torqued. EMT tires are very hard, ask any tire repair man. If you know you hit something hard with them, suggest you check them thoroughly for bend rim or cracks than could cause a improper seal.

This isn't an air pressure low warning, its a check the pressure system. The air is up on all the tires, this warning is saying there is something wrong with the pressure system, not any one tire's air pressure.

I agree on the crappy weather. I have had it on and off all the time, but still is harmless so will wait for a TSB to fix.

I had the same problem with both of my Jeep SRT's. First they said it was a bad sensor..changed, same problem. Then they replaced the control module which stated another sad chapter in Jeep Service.....ordered the wrong part, ordered the right part that was broke, ordered the right part again, and it was not compatable with the PCM software...played with the software by backing out modules.....Car ran poor, and the SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM was still there...."One good deal after another"!

My TPS sensor was going off & on during a a short time in the heart of the cold weather spell here in western NY - 0 to 15 dergrees. The psi on all 4 tires were reading 30 to 32 psi. Once I upped the psi to 37 on all fours, the TPS warnings stopped. I currently maintain 37 to 39 psi in all fours. No problems since. Preasure may seem a little high, but it works.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. My GC SRT8 just started doing this the past week. On every drive, after a little while, I get the service tire pressure system light on the EVIC. If I hit the button to show the tire pressure, for one or both f the rear tires (it changes), it says "--" instead of the 2 digit tire pressure numbers. Also, the amber low tire pressure light comes on and flashes, then eventually goes off.

Will this TSB (TSB 08-008-07) take care of it? I really hate having my truck at the dealership.

I have the exact prob as last post. Religiously, on my 15 min commute to work, I get the messages. First I get the display "service tire system." Then I get the amber light with the warning chime. These 2 indicators go off at almost the same time of my commute. The chime usually goes off about 3 or 4 more times as each of the TPS sensors loose connectivity.
Needless to say, it is pretty embarrassing as I have to explain to riders that my TPS is a pile and doesn't work. I feel as if I am driving around an old jalopy with all the service lights on. I have not had it serviced yet because last dealer claimed they couldn't find it (oh yea, looks like there is no fix!?) We need a fix now!!!

Unfortunately, The TSB will not fix it. I too had the exact same problem with my 07. The first time the dealer replaced all 4 sensors. However, the problem still was there. The second visit they replaced the module. After I left the dealership the problem was still there. I even went back for a third visit, this time they said it was the trigger sensor. After leaving the vehicle with them for two days, I got it back with the same Fu**ing problem. They basically said they didn't know what else to do it. I didn't have the time or effort to look into the lemon law so I traded it on an 08 and no problems yet.

Hope this helps.

This does help. Good luck to you on your '08.

I will be taking mine to the dealership. The thing is getting annoying. Sometims I really feel like I got jerked paying $40K+ for something that has problems left and right. I really wonder what causes this problem.....

Once you get a low tire pressure indicator you may get it again until you raise the PSI above 34-35 PSI on the tires that are low. Trust me, been there done that.

All 4 of my tires are around 37psi, and it still happens. I'll get the "check tire pressure system" warning on the dash, and the amber tire pressure light comes on. If I have the information display thing on the tire pressures, one of the 2 rear tires (it chages, sometimes left, sometimes right, sometimes both) will have "--" instead of a numeric value there. Few minutes later, it'll go back to normal. Never happens with a front wheel.

Yep, same problem here, two visits to the dealer, no fix yet. Dealer has (1) adjusted tire pressure and reflashed the BIOS and (2) performed that TSB. No luck. Gonna take it in for a 3rd and see what happens.

Phase two of my last post. Now, I first get a low pressure reading on all my tires. It started out as one at a time. Then the "Service TPS" light comes on. Why why why? Just make it work. Will try to up PSI once to eliminate all the beeping.

This is pretty much a cold weather problem....such as under 50 degrees,,,,,it gets worse the colder it is, but it is harmless, and changing sensors has no effect.....had this problem in both of my Jeeps....If you let the dealer try to do something, he will screw up something else. It will be gone in May!

Switch to nitrogen in your tires. I have all mine filled with nitrogen and 35 lbs cold in the summer still translates to 35 cold at 27 degrees. I don't have near the pressure fluxuations that I did with normal compressed air.

Hey I'am going to COSTCO I understand they fill the tires they sell with nitro, maybe i can work something out with them since i'am a club member:).

The service tire system showed up on my Jeep this morning. Still having issues with the driver front and passenger rear. I have taken it to Just tires twice and they cant figure out the problem. I have to fill air in the tires almost everyday. Had the tires resealed, but still no luck and now the Service tire system showed up. Gonna try to take it to the dealer and see what happens.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions???

I had the pressure problem last winter while travelling from Glacier NP back to Chicago via NoDak. Pumped the tires up to 37psi and it stopped. seems that 33 psi is on border line for low press. alarm if temp gets into teens or lower.
