I was not sure if i should post this here or in visual, for me it would be a performance weight reduction piece.

SO does any one know of a hood and hatch being produced? I would love to get a hood with a inlet cut out at the CAI and i am sure the stock hood weighs a ton.

The stock hood is aluminum, I wouldn't think it is too heavy...

Has anyone weighed their stock hood? If there's enough of a difference to merritt a switch to a 'glass version, we'd need around 10 people (minimum) for HO Fibertrends (www.hofibertrends.com) to mock up a lightweight replacement.
The above company supplied Ford with OEM hoods for the 95 Cobra R, and does top notch work.

 I am in for the 1 of 10 if the weight is significant and the price is not rediculous. I am thinking between 600-1000. I know the Hood for my mini cooper s was 500.00 and it was a lot more detailed.

I wouldn't think it would cost more than $500 based on pricing for their other hoods. FWIW the 95R hood I referenced above weighs around 22lbs, vs 46lbs for a stocker.

Do you have pics of the mini hood?

I'm in if you need 10 folks. I swapped out to a c/f hood once before, and it was actually heavier than my stock aluminum hood.

I'm down for carbon fiber. So if something of that nature comes up, count me in.

CF is neat but is really unecessary as far as weight savings is concerned, is a PITA to paint, and is one hell of a lot more expensive.

I just emailed them also.

A fiberglass hood would be a better weight savings vs. cost and the weight difference between fiberglass and carbon fiber just doesn't justify the extra cost, IMO.

If the hood is going to have a scoop then I'm in.Of coarse I want to see one first.I'm a big fan of hood scoops. When done right they really add to a custom look.

One advantage to carbon fiber is that depending on what color car you put it on you won't have to pay to paint it.

I'll see what I can do. I am a dealer for like 6 companies that make CF Hoods, so I am sure someone is bound to make one.

C/F hard to paint? Wow-- that is totally different from the experience I had with it.

You could not see the pattern through it at all (which is the most common fear).

This hood is entirely c/f.

Greg,

Maybe I missed it, but who said CF was hard to paint?

Someone mentioned it on page 1. It was sanded and prepped as any other painted surface would be.

That hood looks nice. Every painted CF hood I've seen in person looked like crap.

Considering these things have rear seat DVD players, Navigation, etc. I think a naked CF hood on a Jeep would look ridiculous, ricer-like in fact. Just MO.

As with any painting (and my experience level stops abruptly at just watching for a few hours here and there in the local paint shop), it's all in the prep. I've seen lots of tuners out there with either 1) cheaply finish c/f, or 2)poorly prepped c/f. If it's cheaply finished, your prep work is going to help but you'll likely still see the pattern through the paint. If it's a nicely constructed c/f piece, then the prep work must also be good. I've seen too many tuners just paint right down over the top of the cleared c/f. It may look decent right out of the shop, but guaranteed, if the prep work wasn't done right, you'll eventually see the pattern right through the paint.

If we were to be able to get a nice c/f hood, with a functional scoop (yes, even though I'm a flash over dash guy, I still think non functional scoops are silly), I'd get one, and go with some sort of silver frosting right over the top of it. Perhaps leaving some black down the middle, then incorporating some more black on the upper half of the car :)

I agree with stroke here. Even on black, you have to add at least some paint to tie it in.

I would not mind the stripe down the center left CF. Looks good on the F150

FWIW, some may like this "tinted" CF, even though I'd still rather have fiberglass;)

I love what my friend did to his CF Hood. It looks all black from some angles, but its not :)
