Jeep is. What is a GTO? It has no ties to it's former self other than a badge. Who wants an Austrialian built peice of junk that poses as a performance car? Not me.

I once owned an '04 Intense Blue Metallic GTO. It was a 6 speed with after market 18" wheels. I had it for about 6k miles before it was totaled by some 17 year old girl running a red light while talking on her cell phone.

I can say from personal experience that the GTOs ARE NOT JUNK! They have one of the best quality interiors of any car sold in the U.S. I was very impressed with the build quality of my GTO. I only wish that the interior of my Jeep had the same quality. The seats in the GC are about the only interior part that is on par with the GTO.

I miss the GTO and would have replaced it with another one, but my wife wanted an SUV. She said that she would feel safer in an SUV but also wanted high performance. That steered us toward the Jeep or the TB SS. I don't like the looks of the TB SS or the 4 speed auto, so the Jeep was the only choice.

In an ideal world, I would like to have both the Jeep and the GTO, but I cannot afford both. It is tempting to get a GTO with the leftover '06s going for 27-28k. ;)

Stop holding back, and tell us how you really feel! :D

I like the car in general, although the styling was a bit too plain. Also pedal placement was really driver unfriendly, making it impossible for me to heel and toe.

The newer Commodore is coming over to be badged as a Pontiac G8 to compete with the BMW 3 series. It'll be interesting to see what they end up doing with the Goat a bit in the future.

For some reason their "Kills" section is off limits to the public...
This is the section it is in. My friend owns a GTO and sent me the link and i had to join to read it, so i also joined in the discussion. Most have respect the others not so much. Calling our E/T's bs claims even with proof on video, Youtube, Putfile, ect. We will see what happens soon when i run my friend!

I guess when you have low standards, even the GTO can seem like a nice car. *sigh*

I like the GTO. If I was in the market for a performance coupe, I would look at it. Why do you feel the quality/standards are lower than a Chrysler/Jeep product?

Yeah, I have low standards. That's why I bought a Jeep just like you did. If you can't back up your opinion with facts, don't attack the person who disagrees with you by putting them down. You've probably never even sat in a GTO

If I remember correctly the GTOs were having major issues with their front struts shredding the insides of the tires due to improper clearance. GM redesigned the struts and now there have been (at least) 100 documented cases of front strut failure.

It's a fun car to drive, but it's also incredibly heavy and the last thing I'd want to worry about is losing my ability to steer due to failing suspension components (or tires, for that matter).

That doesn't really prove anything. That same set-up could have run that well or better with any F-Body.

Houston,

Credit where credit is due, I see your a ford guy but that was a fast GTO. Not saying that a Mustang with a TT kit wouldn't do the same... either way they would both be fast ass street cars.

A guy at ATCO a few months back could only get a 13.1 out of his, he was totally beside himself that I was running better with an SUV. Same day another guy was runnin mid 11's with his worked one so they can be made VERY fast. I like the GTO's I almost bought one.

Me I just like having a mid 12 second SUV.

GTO's well are built pretty tight and feel very nice,, I liked them and the power was very nice also, there are lots of mods for the GTO + New body kits that make it look much better than it looks stock,, All in all the GTO is a pretty cool car but just had a little to much similarity to a Grand AM.. If they would have made it just a little more retro from the past i would have bought one for sure, Haven't had one beat my Roush yet but sure makes a good race!:D

Jeep and GTO,

As you know most of us have more class and respect then that. I guess money can't buy everything.

Question, can your GTO hang with the Jeep. If you read the post on LS1 forum you should know that I will be running my buddy. He has CAI, Rear Mufflers, Predator, short shifter and thats it. I have CAI, B&B cat back and 170 thermo.

What cha think.

My comment had nothing to do with me prefering Fords. I actually like the GTO over prior F-bodies. My point was the real star in that video was the drivetrain, not the body. I was saying that the drivetrain would have run just as well in an F-Body as it did in the GTO. That video doesn't really prove that the GTO is a fantastic car.

Ya know when I signed on to this forum I was really looking for some good info on our great ride.I've done some mods using info I got from reading all the good threads. This thread has absolutely no good info at all.How about if we let the GTO and the Cadillac and Mustang guys have their forums and we keep ours respectable. You know they aren't going to have anything good to say about us any more than we about them.If you want to dispute the other guy lets do it on the track where the facts tell the truth.Good Luck

I don't know. I believe (based on extensive reading and research) that a stock Jeep will smoke a stock GTO from zero to sixty (The GTO is very hard to launch), but the GTO will win at the quarter mile.

A few folks have stated that a GTO vs any SRT-8 will often be a driver's race. I only read this about SRT-8s other than Jeeps, though.

I think (obviously I am very biased) that both vehicles are a lot of fun. Each has its own strong points.

On my GTO, I also have the Predator tune - it made a big seat of the pants difference (except that when it's cold, I get even less traction LOL). I have the Lingenfelter CAI, which also seemed to make a SOTP difference. I also just bought an Optima red top battery which made no difference LOL.

From a roll (which I know is not the question you asked), the GTO should win hands down (as long as one gets it into the correct gear [I practice often with the M6]). I am still having difficulty with the Jeep from a roll - I thought I knew when and how to downshift, then along came the flash and I haven't quite gotten it right yet.

How about a forum where you can mix and talk with respect. What is this the 60's and 70's with vehicle segregation. We are all the same type of people, Gearheads that love our cars, love talking cars ect.

I was able to post on the GTO forum with respect to everyone and met a few good guys that I would have never met if i didnt go over there. Maybe its just me, and my alternate reality where i think everyone can get along, and others can be ignored.
