That's great! Proud papa. When mine are 17 (both girls), that'll be me in the driver's seat :)

j/k

That is really a cool picture of the Jeep.

You can't look at that picture WITHOUT smiling! He's going to have a crowd around it when he pulls up, thats for sure. Let's hope he keeps the WOT under control!!

I should have measured rear tire tread depth.

SMILING. You hit that on the head. As soon as I saw the pic, and the smiles on those kids faces, I broke a big grin. I'd venture to say that with Alex's driving experience, his post on the MD licensing laws, and the obvious love he feels for his sons, that the kid "earned" his drive to the dance.

Bet he is a proud "Papa". LOL on the tread depth comment.

As to ge2's post....I've got two grandaughters, 8 and 3, and I'm already dialing them in with modded Barbie jeeps, electric scooters, a little course layout in our cul-de-sac (complete with cones) and some childrens rules of the road. Can't wait to take them to Teen/performance driving schools when it is time. They may not turn out to be auto anal like many of us, but I guarantee you this. They will realize they are guiding a 3-4000 pound missile, they will stay the Hell out of the left lane, and they will know how to bring the ass end back in line when necessary, etc., etc. Ain't love wonderful?

No question. Son #3 is my resident teen gearhead. And thanks for the kind words, but it's easy to be an involved parent when it's something you're into yourself.

That's awesome! I did the same, several years ago at their grandpa's house we used to set up a low speed autocross course for them to mess around on in a speed limited go kart he bought for them to use. (Speed limited because the dead engine and clutch produced about as much hp at the wheels as a blow dryer would). We even timed them. :D

That is too cool. LOVE the course! We also live in a cul de sac, so a cone course is a great idea and tool. I see a possible summer-league of 5 year old driving competition in my neighborhood now :)

Hope your boy is home safe and sound and had a great time at the dance.

Soccer pylons from D!ck's sporting goods make great kid autox cones!

The Jeep was safely home in the garage at 11 pm. He then went in his car to one of the other kids' parents house for a "sleepover" of about 20 kids. Some parent always hosts this kind of thing after each dance. It keeps them off the road and under one roof.
