: NAG1 High Torque Capacity Tranny
pepetizon 05-31-2009, 09:20 PM Bill,
Maybe you could please take a sec to briefly describe this tranny (material used, kevlar clutches?, etc..)
What are the technical benefits of installing it and when is it recommended to do the upgrade?
Also, any installation tips that our mechanics should know?
What is this "mercedes pan" you told me about? What is the benefit of this?
Does it require any special maintenance/service different from what the stock tranny needs from the dealership? Is it done the same way?
Any break-in procedures?
Is it recommended to reset TCM adaptives after installing it? If we do reset them what is the procedure for proper learning?
This is a question someone else asked: Does it come with smaller pulley for the S/C and bigger injectors?!
Any other useful info?
Thanx!

Jose,
The Jeep tranny will typically begin to slip when you hit about 450 whp, LX's closer to 500 whp.
With each of my NAG1 trannys, I send a special easy to read dipstick that is very clear....fluid level range cold, fluid level range hot.
I recommend Mopar ATF4 available at any dealer. I have not tested with any other fluid.
Also, with each of my NAG1's I install a Mercedes oil pan that has a drain plug in it. It makes it simple to change the fluid after a season of hard running. I don't recommend changing the fluid and filter more than once a season at this point.
Important breakin procedure....beat the hell out of it! LOL
Typically the TCM adaptives are reset with the new tranny because the clutch pack fill rates are totally different than stock. The TCM relearn procedure is rather long, but basically it wants to see many upshifts and downshifts. I can send you a PDF file to your email about this.
As for what is inside the tranny, almost every piece is modified.
I have begun security sealing the trannys....the 1 year warranty is void if the case is opened up or the valve body removed. No security seal on the pan however, as you need to eventually get to the filter.

Thanks for all that info. Bill. The easy to read dipstick and Mercedes pan with drain plug are probably my favorite features!!! :D It's always nice when something is made easier to work on.
After I throw the vortech on I may need one of these bad boys......but hopefully I will be able to make due on the stock tranny with your VB for a little while. ;) Only time will tell.

Anyone know if you have to do this if you only get the stage 2 VB?
Tony
hawkman996 06-02-2009, 01:28 PM I believe the tcm gets reflashed when installing the VB too. I know Harrison's was reflashed by ViperDan when he did the install.

Tony,
Some guys do it and some don't.
Mandatory on some non-Jeep vehicles.;)
