Does anyone know of a TSB that supercedes the manufacturer recomended oil weight specs? I was recently told by my dealer (now being closed and leaving me a 45 min drive to the next one. Crap!!) that the 0w-40w oil that has been run in the gcsrt8 is now being replaced by 5w-40. Is this true or are they trying to sell me whatever they stock?

If anything, it's 15W-50 because of engine noise.

Yeah, that TSB was for the piston oil cooler jets fluttering (whine) during hot oil/idle conditions in summer temps. BlackJeepSRT8's right, it's 15W50 for summer months and back to 0W40 in the winter.

A lot of LX guys have gone to Mobile 1 5W40 Turbo Diesel too - http://www.mobil.com/USA-English/Lubes/PDS/GLXXENPVLMOMobil1_Turbo_Diesel_Truck_5W-40.asp.

The dealer told me that it is mobile 1 5w-40w all the time now. No more 0-40. I used to get a better deal on the oil from them than the local parts store but they dont carry it any more. Does anyone actually know what the tsb says specifically and why the change? My jeep is quiet. Is it worth the change?

I just got my oil change at the dealership yesterday and they are not one of the ones closing down.

Chrysler is giving them mobile 1 5w-40 for use from now on.

Wasn't 0W-40 on back order? Could explain the use of 5W-40 instead.

To the Op, I was told the same almost 2 months back. Not a biggie either way.
