: Centric Brake Pad Installation

After getting fed up with the non stop dusting with the stock brake pad composition, I ordered the Centric Posi Quiet brake pads from Zeckhausen racing http://www.zeckhausenracing.com/ and installed them last night. You should see their site for great pictures related to the installation.

As installs go, it was not bad. Besides the R&R of the rims and tires, the toughest part of the job was making sure the retaining pins are fully seated when they are replaced. There is not a lot of room, especially in the rear, to swing even a small hammer.

Additionally, the passenger side rear brake had a clearance problem with regard to one of the retaining pins. The way the brake line was installed, the pin had no clearance to be fully removed. I wound up loosening up ever so slightly the brake line fitting so that it could be slightly rotated so that the pin would clear. I then tightened it up.

After a thorough bedding-in procedure, I believe these pads still have a bit of wearing in to do. The pedal effort seems right, and will most likely get better as these pads get happier with the rotors. I have a slight squeak from the rear on really hard braking, but I am going to give that a bit of time as well.

With the right tools, anyone can do this. It's a bit of a dirty job, but I am hoping the results are worth it.

I would have gone with the C teks which Zeckhausen recommended over the Centri ons but either way your going to love them, 90% less dust and if your rotors arent grooved badly same OEM stopping power, I have new rotors so my C teks stop on a dime.

David Z. recommended the Centric pads, so I went with them. I think it's going to be a winner. The rotors are not too bad, so I am going to give it a shot. If the scoring stays in check, then it will be fine. If I determine that they are getting worse, I'll change them out.

Thanks Bill. What is so silly is that the brake line made a truly really easy installation a bit more troublesome. Except for that, it was pretty easy.

I am looking forward to putting more miles on them. Did you do anything to the rotors on your vehicle, or just put the pads in, like I did?

I changed to the drilled snd slotted (mainly for looks) DiskItalia from Brakeworld. They have been on for 4500 miles and now I have a slight squeal out of the left rear. Hope the copper paste & cleaner works, if not I will order another set of the C-Tek for that corner. The rotors are not wearing or putting out much dust and the combination stops well.

Put on the same pads, same issue with the brake line. Used stock rotors with 10,000 miles on them. I asked Dave Z.about the scored rotors, he told me NOT to grind down the rotors, but rather to bed the pads to the rotor after the pad install, then use them for a few weeks until the bed/rotor contact is optimal, and then bed the pads a second time. Brake performance has improved with time. Really happy not to have the brake dust issue anymore.

I'm glad to hear that this combination will work. Something tells me that this is how most owners will go about this. I hope this to be one of my better mods.

Not to steal the thread......by the way Sherisrt8 good meeting you at Woodland!

BUT.... I had the Centric and they worked...ok.....the fact that I could go 2 weeks with no dust was amazing.......BUT several times I had to lay into these bad boys and my eyes got HUGE when it just did not want to stop......I mean you have to lay your foot almost to the firewall!! A friend drove it and she says "wow ......you really have to push down to get them to stop". I knew right there it wasnt just me.

Im not pimping.... but switched to the Satisfied Pad that GSM is carrying.......night and day on stopping power......they throw you forward like the old stock feel and no dust......... drove from Fullerton to Woodland......and took a scenic street route back for a total of 165 miles......and no dust.....I even wiped on them to check.

I have to tell you if you decide to try them out you will not go back to Centric!!!!

Good meeting you too Steve. Glad you made the trek out. I'll eventually do the brakes and rotors on mine. First, I'm gonna start with the mods we talked abut today. BTW, what scenic route did you take home?

I read you loud and clear. I'm going to give it some time and see how they perform. Fortunately, they are not hard to deal with and not a super expensive change to make. If all else fails, I still have the stock pads to go back to.

It was good to meet you and everyone else at the Roasters yesterday. We had a great drive to the beach for lunch. For sure had a chance to lay into the brakes on the way and all is still well.
