: True Synthetic Motor Oil

I have been reading articles and what not and many articles said that Royal Purple and Mobil1 are not true synthetic oil. So my question is what oil is a true synthetic?

I dont know when i went to autozone the guy that work there said the mobil 1 oil burns faster than other synteic oil

The biggest question is " Why Synthetic Motor Oil?"

When you look into synthetic motor oil you will discover that not all synthetics are as you might think. To truly understand this you need to look at the American Petroleum Institute (API) and how they have broke oil base stocks broke down five groups.

Group I is a fractionally distilled petroleum that is further refined with a solvent extraction purpose to help with oxidation resistance and to remove wax.

Group II uses fractionally distilled base stocks and then is hydrocracked to further refine and purify.

Group III base stocks are hydrocracked even further than group II base stocks so that the viscosity index is higher with a lower wax content.

Group IV are polyalphaolefins (PAOs). which is a true" synthetic oil base stock that is artificially synthesized

Group V are base stocks that do not fall into group I-IV

When you add it all up Group 1 and II are typically considered mineral oils with Group II having an additional step of hydro cracking for added purity.

Group III is considered to be a synthetic except in Germany and Japan. Why? Look back at the Group descriptions Group III base stock is the same as group II but hydrocracked further thus it is still a mineral oil just further refined. Most of the synthetic oils sold in the US are actually Group III oils.

On the other hand AMSOIL synthetic motor oil is a pure synthetic motor oil that falls into the Group IV classification. AMSOIL synthetic motor oil uses a polyalphaolefins base stock. Group IV base stocks are much purer that the other groups giving it superior mechanical properties over a very wide temperature range. Group IV synthetic motor oils have a much improved viscosity index and require little to no viscosity improvers which are the most vulnerable to thermal and mechanical degradation over the life of the oil.

AMSOIL Synthetic Motor Oil is designed to reduce the wear and tear on mechanical components when compared to petroleum products while reducing oxidation and the formation of sludge which is a killer in today's engines due to the heat buildup. As a result AMSOIL synthetic motor oil is engineered and warranted for up to 1 year or 25,000 miles in the majority of its motor oils in normal service applications.

Motor oil test comparisons continually prove that AMSOIL synthetic motor oil is superior..

So the answer to the question "why synthetic motor oil?" is very simple, AMSOIL synthetic Motor Oil is superior to petroleum motor oil, the test the facts. Even better, AMSOIL when used as recommended saves you money!

One last point, many people refer to AMSOIL as AMZOIL or AMS OIL, actually AMSOIL started out as AMZOIL but changed the name due to a name dispute way back when it first came to market. Although when you say it is sounds like AMZOIL is actually AMSOIL.

Yeah I would run other oil for the break in period then put in the amsoil, but if you doing gears and tranny then you can do that now.

Just let me know what you need man Hey call me

I went from mobil 1 to amsoil in my old mr2 turbo that had 95k miles on it. HOLY CRAP at high rpm's did it quiet the motor down. You could tell she was happy

I've always liked Amsoil products, never had a bad issue with them. I did not run some of the engine oils in the past since they were under the "recommended" tag and not under the "exceed". "Meet or exceed....." on the label defines approved testing by the "powers to be" and are recognized by oem, recommending does not. Even though it is a superior product, I was not up to battling Ford on some engine issue completely unrelated to choice of lubricant, and lose warranty because of the "tag", which would happen and be left up to me to fight Ford's lawyers and prove otherwise.

I'm using the 0w40 Mobil, I'd prefer the 5w40 Amsoil, but it is also under recommendation, or does that really matter in our application, not sure....... anyone heard of a warranty claim on our 6.1's denied by the wrong oil label? I never have.

Soon enough it won't matter anyway once the PPP goodies get here!!!!

Great stuff! I'm not a dealer for Amsoil, but I became a preferred customer to get the discounted pricing. My source GI Joe's, or Joe's, filed for bankruptcy and that was the only retail store where you could buy it. Will be cheaper for me now as there's a warehouse in Portland to pick it up from.

I'll be pm'ing you here in the next month or so. I'm about 3k miles away from changing the frt diff/rear diff/TC/motor oils. I used mobil1 this last time because I couldn't get my hands on Amsoil in time.

Plus when I get Bill's VB put in I would like to replace with Amsoil.

I switched to Amsoil from Mobil1 2 years ago in my motorcycles. The oil does not break down as fast and my motor's ran cooler and quieter.

With the TC going in the tranny fluids will have to be changed, guess it would make since to go ahead with the gear fluids to huh?

Hey...you want to go to Austin with me the weekend of June 19th? I'll call ya later

I have used Amsoil 5-40 since my first change at 500 km's!
