: Underhood polished parts
DISCLAIMER: do I really need to keep doing this? You all know I'm stoopid about engine stuff.
I have seen polished head covers (?) from GSM. I think that's what they are called-- I really don't know. It is the big exposed part of the engine, between the plastic covers. Anyhow-- does anyone know of a company who sells them aside from GSM?
And please correct me if I used the wrong term. Hey, I gotta learn somehow, right?

I think your talking about the Intake Manifold. And I have a BRAND NEW one with a SHOW POLISH for sale if anyone is interested. GSM charges $1000.00 just for the Polishing of the Intake. I will sell my Intake for less then that. Email me @ MABOSC223@HOTMAIL.COM Serious Inquiries Only.
Note: I also have a Brand New Set of Ported & Polished Heads for the 6.1L Hemi w/BeeHive Springs and all the goodies. I need to sell both. Thanks Guys!!!
kramsay1234 02-23-2007, 01:53 PM He did indeed mean the intake manifold. And if he gets this polished he is going to have to switch over to the DUB CAI to get the matching polished intake on that. :D :D

Speaking of engine bling, anyone know anything about this chrome shop I found? They can even do plastic??
http://www.4chrome.com/index.htm
This is for:
The engine crossover tube. I bought a spare from DCX, the dealer was embarrassed to give it to me, the top is "squished flat" and the thing it beat to sh**. I will install it when mine is out being chromed.
The 2 plastic valve covers (under the other covers)ge2 helped with a shop in NC for my leather interior, now I need a chrome plater somewhere.
Thanks!!
Bill
AlexT 02-23-2007, 02:27 PM The engine crossover tube.
I always thought that was called a strut brace or strut bar.
Anyway, see definition of bling above.

As a Mechanical engineer who worked for years with Daimler, I certainly know chassis part names as well as anyone. The problem is that not every one else does. ge2 and so many other members here have expertise that lies outside the engine compartment of their vehicle. It made more sense here to ask about the "engine crossover tube" rather than the correct term "c/member" PN 55396886AC.

Hold on there!!!!!
I just wanted to make sure you use extreme caution choosing a chrome shop.
My buddy has a custom bike shop and was using one chrome shop. He found this other shop in north carolina that was faster and was willing to give a good deal.
Everything sounded good til after the parts had been out there for a few months. The guy is currently going up on charges for what he did.
What did he do, you say???????
13 sportbikes were dismantled and sent to him. some for chrome, some for polishing. Not 1 single bike was sent back completly. My buddy got a few things but not even enough parts to put 1 bike together.
And Im talking new or damn near new bikes.
My sister was a victim, my buddy was a victim, my ex-brother-in law. and lots of other VERY upset people and friends.
At one point in time, when the charges were coming we saw the parts on ebay. The day after police called him and the items were taken off the next day.
Hell one of the bikes, my good friend's, was a brand new honda 1000rr that had been ridden for 2 weeks when he dropped it off for the work.
It has been over a year now and many of the bike owners reported to the insurance and got the bikes totalled out..
Others are out to dry for now.
Be very careful!!!!
I will however give kudo's to www.sportchrome.com out in cali. They do a spectacullar job and get the job done when they say they will...

Ok Bill, as long as you know I was joking. I put that disclaimer about my comments being tongue-in-cheek in my first post but didn't include it in my second one.
I've been watching your descent into the 12's, so I know as well as anyone that you're using the truck for what it was designed for!
Alex
gculver 02-23-2007, 03:08 PM BuilderblingBill, I like the sound of it. The valve covers will be tricky. Plastic chroming is not real chrome. It is ultra fine aluminum particles attached by a static charge, then cleared over. I dont think it will take the extreme underhood heat longterm. Remember the chrome instrument bezels of yesteryear, they looked horrible after a couple of years. All the restrorations I have done, this was a major area of concern for durability. If it doesn't work, you will know b/c it will most likely bubble like Hell(different expansion rates) . Let me know the outcome, of course the processes have improved, but to my knowledge is pretty much the same. You must be building a show JEEP. All I'm building is a slow JEEP.:)

LOL-- I love this place. WAY too many funny lines so far to quote them all, so I'll just say, thanks, shut up, thanks whatever, LOL, and I love this place :)
Thanks for the help here!
And Bill. Give me a day and let me see if I can find you a good chromer out there. I know 2 out here that are outstanding, but I have some friends with nice custom stuff in NC/SC/GA area and I know they'll know something.

Show quality chrome "engine crossover tube installed"! Turned out great, expensive as hell at $ 450.00 (not even going to print what chroming the valve covers cost). The plastic valve covers (NOT engine covers) are still one month out. It takes about 8 weeks to chrome them. This place says that it is real chrome....GC we will see!
"It if don't go, chrome it!:p

kramsay1234 04-16-2007, 05:29 PM looks cool. I also noticed you cleaned all the build QC yellow check lines off the plastic pieces under your hood. Mine are still on the battery, fuse cover, as well as other various black plastic pieces.

Howy cwap! That is AWESOME!!!

Ditto......What did you use, Bill, to clean up the yellow hash marks?
Also, The braided lines look great. Happen to remember the sizes or source?
Strut brace really pops!
HoustonSRT-8 04-17-2007, 07:50 AM Are those braided sleeves slipped over silicone vacuum lines?

Braided lines from a great & helpful vendor:http://www.paragonperformance.com/
I used all straight Econo-Clamp fittings, however, the short PCV line really needs a 90* econo fitting out of the PCV.
The yellow hash marks came off with Simple Green.
Working on the Bling while waiting on the 426 Supercharged Hemi.

Go~RillaWRX 04-17-2007, 10:15 AM Wow that all looks great. We should get a vendor on here to do the chrome strut tower bar. It would be cool if the chromed them, sent them to us, then we send the stocker back. We also need a cheaper set of chrome or painted valve covers.

hwo much did you pay for the strut bar from your dealer.

I believe this is the part:
55396886-AC C/Member List = $ 99.95
Bill's Net Price = $62.96
I DO have the spare if you need it. It is a P.O.S. that is NOT suitable for chroming (very flat top, not well rounded) but I used it while mine was being chromed.
I will be glad to ship it to you!

we just bought 10 for powdercoating we were just wondering what you paid, but their giving us 2 different part numbers one is our cost $59.61 retail $95.69(black painted) and the other is our cost $71.90 retail $114.97 (silver powdercoat), we bought the silver powdercoated ones their easier to pre-heat and reshoot.

BuilderBill 06-18-2007, 01:35 PM How about these chrome plated plastic valve covers that just arrived.
This is real chrome and thick. It will look great on the 426!!!
The only other guy I know that would spend $xxxx.xx for these is ge2. Please note I did not put the price on for a reason.

they do but for some reason you can buy a cheaper replacment in black from mopar.
BuilderBill 06-18-2007, 05:44 PM My cheaper black one looks like a truck ran it over.
It was so bad the dealer asked me if I wanted to re-order.
It is a good spare only. you would NOT put it under your hood long term.
