: Nissan Smack-down!
TXBLU 02-22-2007, 07:09 PM Headed over to Boston's to pick up a pizza the other night. Was rolling out 635 headed West just past I-35 when a Nissan ALtima 3.5 rolled up and paused before romping off down the highway. Well, I knew it was unfair, but since he paused right next to me (at about 70 MPH) before he booted it, I figured he needed an education. He obviously had no idea what was about to happen...
I punched it and shot up next to him while he was still in the throttle and matched his speed ( 90+ and accellerating) until he knew I was there, then I floored it and ran it out to about 135. At that point he was at least 10 lengths behind, so I slowed down for my exit, which was coming up fast.
He finally got caught up, paused for second, then motored on down the road. I'm sure he was trying figure out what the hell I was driving, since he obviously didn't have a clue when he saw me the first time. Ha ha!!!!!
Now I'm waiting for one of those nose-in-the-air 350Z drivers to mess with the Jeep. THAT will be fun!!!!
promo718 02-22-2007, 08:14 PM sounds like your nose is in the air more than anything else, dude.. by the way, our truck doesn't accelerate particularly aggressively past the 100 mark (the physics of pushing a 5000lb brick through the air kick in), so if you want to impress kids driving altimas (or minivans or whatever) you want to begin the show at a decent speed below 100 so u got some room.

Jeez, thanks for that killer comment debbie downer
JDR07 02-22-2007, 08:36 PM I've had my srt8 for a month and I've yet to race ANYBODY. I'm itching to, but my town is not exactly a street racer's paradise (very few car enthusiasts and bumpy roads). In order to get any competition i have to drive at least 20 minutes away to san antonio. :(
Hallstar 02-22-2007, 08:38 PM Hey man...
Forget the Z's...they already know around here in MD. I've mashed about six or seven of them and 2 in the same asian car club!!! I also smacked a couple of Altima SE-R's which were about the same speed as the Z's it seemed...they are no sweat but the Z's pull hard top side!!!
HALLSTAR TINT
split2112 02-22-2007, 08:39 PM ive driven 12500 miles in it and raced maybe 3 people....thanks LA traffic.
Hallstar 02-22-2007, 08:58 PM I Race Everything...Guess thats why my bottom end is clunking at 1360 on the odometer!!! Route 50 is our Autobahn especially after 10pm...about 30 miles of 4-5 lanes pretty much empty from D.C.to Annapolis...cmon man move... and it even takes the helicopters much longer to scramble!!! In the summer you will see 200mph bikes up and down 50 all day and State Troopers are unknown stars in wheelie vids and chase vids!!! Good Luck in the future!!!

split, if u don't see anything wrong with pushing 130 on a public us highway trying to "teach an altima a lesson" and then typing up a small story to brag about it, then u got more problems than just being a sarcastic ****..
Black_SRT8 02-22-2007, 09:19 PM by the way, our truck doesn't accelerate particularly aggressively past the 100 mark
Compared to what, a Porsche or Corvette? Our SRT8's reach 140 effortlessly, and are faster than 95% of the vehicles on the road.
FastSRT8GC 02-22-2007, 09:40 PM Its been a month now and I cant find anyone willing to step up to the challenge.
All the fast cars are always going the opposite way.
Also sounds like PROMO718 is like the guy/DAD that complained about people wanting to use the NAV while driving.
If you didnt buy this Jeep because it will woop most cars from stoplight to stoplight then why buy it. And all of us are old enough to know when to and when not to, so take your police patrol elsewhere.
promo718 02-22-2007, 10:17 PM you're right fast, i shouldn't have said anything. carry on.
split2112 02-23-2007, 12:18 AM i just dont like seeing people get judged when they come on here to post their stories. not trying to stir the pot or anything.
Mango 02-23-2007, 05:43 AM I don't know what it is, but around South Jersey there is a huge following of 350z and Subaru STi owners with attitude problems. They constantly want to play with me in the SRT8's and they are sore losers. I've yet to race one that was a respectful loser. Usually, they just speed away dangerously or flip me off as they drive by once I've ended it!
For example, I had an STI almost REAR END a landscaping truck 2 days ago. He was tailgating me while I was minding my own business driving to the gym. At a light I punched it (it was CLEAR road ahead and I only accelerate to 60 which is 5mph over the posted limit), after he caught up he decided to FLY by me, go around me and continued speeding not realizing that I was not "racing" anymore. At which time he approached a red light and nearly smacked into the back of the landscaping truck.
These people seriously need to learn they are not driving fast cars.

I'm not commenting on the ****edness of their drivers, but a lightly modded STi is quick.

MegaSRT-8 02-23-2007, 10:08 AM I killed an older M3 ('98 or so) from a stoplight, and he was furious. At the next light we were behind some cars, and he swerved around a few and caught up to me and punched again. I realized there was too much traffic around and stayed put. He, on the other hand, kept pushing it, and I saw him nail a car that pulled out right in font of him:eek: . It wasn't serious, but his front end was smashed up.
If I had tried to keep with him, I would've crashed too. I stayed back with the rest of the traffic and drove around the mess.
Fastest H-Town Realtor 02-23-2007, 10:48 AM i just dont like seeing people get judged when they come on here to post their stories. not trying to stir the pot or anything.
Post in a public forum and expect total neutrality? Riiiiiight. I understand promos message. Its just the way he came across that wasn't kosher. Kinda the whole "Not what ya say but how ya say it" deal. Rolling big speed on a public thrufare when traffic resides is stupid. TYVM. I have speed on the freeway, but no one is near me when I do.
TXBLU 02-23-2007, 08:49 PM I thought I was going to be able to let it be, but I am weak, so here goes...
How very presumptuous to assume that I would carelessly endanger someone else on a public roadway. The highway had absolutely ZERO traffic where I was at the time. As I approached the traffic in front of me, I backed way off and exited the highway.
Perhaps if I had described the lunacy of weaving in and out of traffic, cutting people off, making obcene gestures at passers-by, I might be receptive of the "I know better than you" disapproving comments made here.
I have read numerous comments that made me think the person that posted them were complete idiots that are stealing oxygen from the rest of us, yet I have not felt the need to post comments that disparage those people. I have, however pointed out when people have been directly rude in comments directed at me, or when a certain individual has basically hijacked a thread I have started by completely changing the subject instead of starting their own thread to get answers on their topic of interest.
I believe the purpose of these fourums is to share comments and ideas that others can find usefull and/or entertaining. I have read many posts that I don't have any interest in, yet I don't feel the need to make comments about how much I may disagree with them, with the exception of clarifing technical issues, or explaining issue related to basic physics.
Therefore, if the experiences I describe are not of interest to you, whomever you may be, or just aren't up to your own personal moral standards, maybe you should keep your pie-hole shut.
On the other hand, it's an open forum and you have every right to express your opinion. That being said, feel free to show all of us how much of a tool you are by pontificating about how wrong I am for doing what I do, especially since you have no freakin' clue as to my skills, experience, or judgement. Knock yourself out.
One more thing; having been a licenced motorcycle road racer for several years, a racing school instructor, and an aircraft maintenance technician and inspector for over 25 years, I have a very highly developed grasp of aerodynamics, power to weigth ratios, chassis dynamics, etc., so I don't need the dime-store physics lesson about the flying brick that is the GCSRT8. Cool as it is, it pales in comparison to what I have become used to, relativaly speaking.
mattedmunds 02-23-2007, 09:06 PM I think race-related stories are an automatic trigger for negative remarks. Street racing is pretty out of control here in LA and if you get caught going fast enough, the cops will seize your car. Boom, end of story. We're all judgmental to some degree, especially with race stories. To be honest I stopped reading the post the first time, when I saw "Nissan" and "Altima". At least pick a better car if you're going to write about it. Something with an AMG or M badge and 4 pipes, for starters. Definitely not impressed hearing about 'killing' a heavy 250hp front-driver that has wheel hop for days.

Oh, I almost forgot; Nose in the air??? How would you know? Sounds like you've never even been up to 100 MPH. And why do you feel the need to make personal comments like "your nose is in the air" when you don't even know me, much less have any knowledge of the conditions at hand during the encounter I described? I could think of all kinds of possibilities related to how you are probably in an anatomically unflattering position, but that would just be rude, wouldn't it?

Do you know what the road conditions were like? No, you don't.

The new ones have 270HP, and the one I encountered was modified to some degree. Besides, what the h. e. double hockey sticks does wheel hop have to do with anything? All of this was from 75MPH on up.
I suppose all of this is all about explaing why someone rides a Harley; If you understand, no explaination is necessary. If you don't understand, no explaination is possible.
promo718 02-23-2007, 09:49 PM so i was driving my JGC SRT8 home from work today doing 35 in a 35 zone, when this school bus pulls up next to me, pauses, and then quickly accelerates to 38. now, i was gonna ignore the ignorant ****, but then i see some punk kid with glasses stick his tongue out at me from the rear window. "that does it, it's on. gonna teach that mother****er a lesson" i mumble as i check my noz pressure gauge..

Don't forget to stop first so you can tell your Nav system which direction you want to race that bus.
Str8Srt8 02-23-2007, 10:19 PM I got goofy faced from kids in the back of a bus! The top window went back and up went the hand and I.... just waived and then I hit my big blast of AIR HORNS! That earned their respect really quick.
matts 03-05-2007, 12:41 PM when kids make funny faces at me i return the favor......guess i'm just hardcore like that
