: Looking to purchase...

Hi everyone. I am looking to purchase my first Jeep SRT8 towards the end of the year and I was wondering if anyone had any first hand information they could share with me. Obvioulsy, when your considering a vehicle like this gas mileage doesn't play a role in deciding whether to purchase it or not but I am curious as to just how bad it is. I would also like to know what kind of cost I can expect to encounter over the course of owning it. I have only owned Acura's and honestly I am a bit nervous about purchasing a JEEP period. I have heard quite a few horror stories involving the problems these vehicles have but for some reason I can't imagine purchasing anything else. I see them few and far between compared to my TL and there's just something about them that catches your eye unlike any other vehicle! I would also love to have something that my boyfriend has to compete with.lol. =) (he has a Supercharged Mercury Marauder)

Thanks to anyone who can help!

(he has a Supercharged MM)

Whats MM? Mazda Miata?

Anyway, don't worry so much. Its not gonna be Honda reliable, but a Jeep is way more fun. And it'll roast just about anything out there. :D

matter of opinion... ive seen many many domestic cars run just as long... its all in how you take care of them... ive seen hondas break down within 100,000 miles (tranny's, motors, etc) but those are usually college students who dont know what oil is... but on the other hand i can count over 10 cars in my family that have had over 100,000 miles on them... one with over 250,000 when it was sold (and close to 300,000 now)... to me the trick is to get them new and take care of them from day 1... if you buy something for performance with 20k on it you dont know what your going to get... honda, kia, gm, ford, jeep or anything!

take grip grip for example... he is right at 100k with his jeep...

I mean I haven't hear to many bad things about our rigs, I honestly think they run great and don't break down hardly ever. (knock on wood!)

But you would love it I am sure, and your BF may be a bit jealous ;)

Most seem to get around 14 avg and up to 17 highway. It should give you boyfriend a good run and I imagine it will last a while if you take care of it. I have an 04 dodge stratus with 114,000 miles and going strong.

Its all in how you take care of your vehicles. I have an 02 dakota that has 150 thousand miles and no problems. The jeep is not my daily driver because i love it so much but gas mileage in the city is bad.

He's probably gonna get ya but, you're gonna make him work for it!

Honestly, I haven't heard of any MAJOR problems with the Jeep when left STOCK. Maybe some stupid little minor things here and there but honestly, it's a pretty solid truck. In 29K that I've owned it and 50K total, I've only had to have my window regulators replaced. That's about it. What all have you heard about it? I'm curious.

I have had no major problems as of yet and the previous owner stated nothing but normal services done to the jeep and I'm at 41k miles currently. I have heard no problems with jeeps left stock and even mildly modded like mine and many others no problems have come up.

I was nervous to buy a Chrylser product too seeing as my family has only owned GM's and a ford or two. I've been impressed so far.

As with any vehicle just make sure to keep up on the preventative maintenance. Do your oil changes on time and check your air filter. When you have the front/ rear diff fluid/transfer case fluid/tranny fluid changed have the mechanic do a quick check over on your rig and it should last you many fun filled years. Follow your service schedule in the owners manual.

I had a 93' Pontiac Bonneville before my jeep that I got when I was 16 and I finally retired it when I was 24!!! The ole' Bonny had 295,000 miles on her when I decided it was time to retire her. The only things I had to replace were a starter motor and antenna motor ( besides tires and brakes). I changed the oil every 3k miles and change plugs/wires at 75k miles.

Point is, how you take care of your vehicle will determine how long it will last you.

Get the Jeep and have fun....good luck. :)

Yah, he's already talking about getting a smaller pulley. Right now he's pushing 406 to the wheels so he's getting up there.lol.

I've heard people complain about electrical problems, ac going out w/in 30k miles, brakes needly replaced sooner than the normal time frame, and transmission problems but I plan on keeping it stock. I'm not really into all the mods and I think it looks perfect just the way it is =)

I know some things are bound to happen, I'm just extremely cautious.

^ +1 but really, like all have said, its how you take care of it, dont let a name scare you. If it were a BMW or Benz you probably wouldnt be scared but you know why, its the owners who give their cars the names they get. Jeep owners typically drive them hard offroad etc, so they have issues, but like any carif you drive normal (not flooring at every light lol) it will last a lifetime. BMW owners etc, don't usually drive as hard, sure the M owners push them but they have their issues too, so all in all, the Jeep is FINE!! You will love it, keep up with routine maintenance and there are a few mods you should actually do to better the performance, gas mileage and even the total vehicle life ;) GL
Just do the following

Buy/Install:
1) BWoody 3.5" Air Intake
2) JET 180 degrees thermostat
These are really all you need, must haves for any owner, no warranty issues ;) you'll love them, maybe try an exhaust too, better flow, better sound and power too :p
