: Is the Jeep faster after 3000 miles?

Well I took my time this morning and read through every post in the chat session. I learned quite a bit! Previously I have heard quite a few people mention that a computer gave us a little more juice after 3000 miles. Does this post by the engineers put an end to that myth, or was I reading the post wrong? (post #136 on the link below)

I think the computer doesnt change anything, but the bearings and wear surfaces will achieve a greater level of lubricity after breaking in, hence better power after a number of miles.

We heard on the SRT chat yesterday that there are no restrictions on the throttle. The Engineer called it an "urban myth".

I have about 4000 miles on my '06 and do notice that it is faster than when new.

Faster and louder. When I first picked up the GC, my Charger exhaust note seemed louder and different. The two notes are different, but now the GC is clearly louder than the Charger.

I never get to 3000 miles, so no idea. But seriously, its just your engine breaking in and loosening up. Nothing magical in the PCM at 3000 miles.

Took mine to the track at 2900 mi and 6400 mi. At same conditions, 1/4 mile times went from solid 13.8 secs to 13.5 secs.

I think at 3,000 the magical engine trolls wake up and adjust the secret hidden VVT-Ninja system (like in the Hun-duh's), but it's a secret you know. This gives us unknown hp gains since no peice of equipment is calibrated in such a way as to prove it works.

Or you can be like the guys on the other site and swap parts out and swear you feel a difference in your "butt" dyno. ugghhhhh *rolls eyes*

Like others are saying, a few thousand miles of use and you should see improved performance. And exhausts age and season and get a bit louder with time.

Ever read the long term tests in the car magazines? Almost without fail, they get improved 0-60 and 1/4 mile results after use then they did when they tested them new.

Dont forget that the motor mags also show increased mpg, too.

Yeah, I've noticed that!!! At 1200 miles I am up to an average MPG of 11.3, that is up from 10.8 the first few hundred miles. Yahooooooooooooo! :p

Yup. Assuming that you're not taking advantage of all that new found power. :p
