: Final Rattle Fix!!!!

OK, so here's the deal;

There have been several posts, some by me, about a persistent rattle that most of us have experienced, yet none of us, as far as I know, has yet to definately indentify the source of, much less have been able to fix, including the "SRT Certified" dealers. Well, boys and girls, I have done just that with my GCSRT8. I now have absolutely no more rattles whatsoever.

While I have detailed a few things that could be the cause of a few minor rattles, I have found "The One" that has always been present in my GCSRT8 from day one; the parking brake cables were hitting the floor pan area just aft of where they exit the cabin of the vehicle.

I installed clamps that positively secure the cables so they can't ever hit the floorpan again. I also used a couple of zip-ties to keep the cables from rubbing against the rear axle housing. If you are nervous about drilling holes in your Jeep, or dont have access to aircraft style hardware and nut-plates, you might want to show these pics to someone that can do the work for you.

Enjoy!!! :D

The last picture shows the nut-plates where they are intalled under the rear seat bottom cushion. I used black spray paint where I drilled holes for the nut-plates to keep corrosion in check.

If anyone has any questions, please let me know. I'm mare than happy to help since I have been happy with my SRT overall, except for this persistent rattle.

Nicely done. Thanks for the tip. Where was your rattle coming from? Can you describe it a little more?

Um, see where the new clamps are installed? That's right where the parking brake cables were hitting the bottom of the floor pan when the suspension was moving up and down over small, sharp bumps.

Did a undercarriage check a few days ago. Seems I already had a foam block glued to the body in the same area TXBLU installed his clamps to prevent the cables from making contact with the body. I guess thats why some have that rattle and some dont:confused:

Huh. Well, a glued foam block is prolly an easier solution.

I'll check mine out when it's up on the rack for it's first oil change tomorrow morning.

Easier? Certainly. Better? Doubtful. The clamps and hardware I installed are aircraft grade and should last for years.

If you've been having a rattle from the rear that you just can't seem to locate, you might want to look at the underside of the floor pan just aft of where the parking brake cables exit the cabin. If the cables have been hitting for any length of time, there should be marks on the floor pan right above the cables.

No rattle here. I was just wondering if the glued block was the DCX solution. And of course I completely forgot to check when I had the jeep up on a rack for an oil change today.

No question your solution is one that I'd use if I were to develop the rattle.

It would indeed be VERY interesting to see what DCX does to fix this particular rattle problem!

I also had that foam block glued in that same spot, I am zip tying the brake cables tho, they also have been rubbing on the rear diff.

I have been investigating a nasty rattle since day one. I already silenced my rattling rear fogs in the bumper. This better be it! Thanks for the great write up.
