: Race Mesh Installed!
TXBLU 02-21-2007, 08:47 PM Finally got pics of my new Race Mesh grills. I'll be taking pics next Monday (I hope) of the install details, but for now, here's what they look like installed...

The last two pics show how I used stainless steel safety wire to secure the lower center grill, instead of the black zip-ties supplied with the grills. By the way, if you haven't noticed, the lower center grill is basically an overlay for the stock grill. Overall, I'm really happy with it!!!!
Again, I'll be pulling the brake cooling ducts out so I can take pictures to show how I secured the new grills in those locations.
Stay tuned...

It Looks gorgeous!!! Mine is being installed tomorrow! I cant wait! I love it. What finish did you choose for your grille?! The electropolished or stainless?
TXBLU 02-21-2007, 09:13 PM Electro-polished!
I'm completely satisfied with how it looks, but will be sending RaceMesh a few suggestions for installation insructions...
Street WK 02-21-2007, 09:15 PM Looks nice man. Thanks for the pictures.

jlandbl 02-22-2007, 06:13 AM Looks great on a dark rig too
Dr.Steve 02-22-2007, 06:44 AM I agree, it looks fantastic TX, but I'm still considering getting it in the black powdercoat, anyone do this on a black yet???
2007GCSRT8 02-22-2007, 06:59 AM Whose chicken legs are those in the pics??? :p
holeshot 02-22-2007, 11:53 AM Thanks for the pics, now i can really see what it looks like on black other than the manufacturer photo. Had no clue it was an overlay on the bottom grill, does it look like the bottom stock honeycomb could be removed and the mesh installed in its place or does it look like it could be a pain in the wazoo.nice job with the safety wire instead of zipties. Really considering this grill. I also wished they made peices for the rear to match.

LOL! Those are the legs of one of the line service guys from Million Air. He has a GT500E from Unique Performance. Right now he's trying to get a dealer to give him a good deal on an '06 GCSRT8 that has 1900 miles on it. He wants one BAD!!!!

I thought about that, and I might go back and remove the stock lower grill. Te problem is going to be figuring out how to secure the Race Mesh grill. I talked to the Race Mesh guys, and they said they were thinking of revising the grill kit to make the lower one a replacement instead of an overlay. We'll see.
I should be able to take pics of how I secured the brake duct grills on Monday. I would do it on Sunday, but I'll be at Texas Motor Speedway for the SRT Track Experience.

Stay tuned...Superb photos and the grilles look awesome!I visited the Racemesh website and I had deduced from their info that the main grille was a complete replacement for the original finished in the appropriate colour. This does not seem to be the case,or did you choose to do this install yourself? Thanks again for your excellent input.eyedoc
Yes, the upper is a complete replacement of the OEM grill and surround. It's the lower that is the overlay.

I cannot believe how quickly I got a reply to my query. Thanks a lot for this excellent site.I am still waiting for my black, fully loaded GCSRT8,but this forum makes the wait worthwhile because I have already learned more about this vehicle than any other I have owned.Keep up the great work moderators and members,it is enjoyed and appreciated.eyedoc:)
Just keep posting away!! Lots of good knowledge here. And some not so good just for good measure ;)

southern runner 02-27-2007, 02:29 PM Hey eyedoc, the new grill looks great. I looked at the RaceMesh site and im interested in getting one myself.......does anyone know what it looks like with the black finish
HoustonSRT-8 02-27-2007, 03:39 PM Booooooooooo on the front plate.
PsychoSRT8 02-27-2007, 03:43 PM that looks great. how much did that cost if u don't mind me asking?
The racemesh grilles (4 parts, including a complete grill surround replacement for the upper) comes out to $700 including shipping.

Required by Texas law. I don't need a built-in reason to get pulled over. You might want to check your plate frame, if you have one, to see if it covers ANYthing printed on the plate. If it does, they can stop you for that, too. I agree that the plate looks bad, but I hate getting stopped, much less getting a ticket.
PsychoSRT8 02-27-2007, 05:32 PM thanx for the responce ge2.

Agree 100%. Tint is one thing, but no front plate in NJ = cops do not let you go on if they spot it. I'd rather see a plate then the plugged holes many have after they removed the front plate. That looks real bad. No plate/no plugs-holes obviously looks the best. But a tinted front windshield looks the best too (just like on every car commercial) but that doesn't mean one should tint that if the car if for everyday use. Just my thoughts.
hound 02-27-2007, 10:22 PM I live in an area that has harsh winters. How well will this mesh hold up to the elements? Will it ever rust? Is there a warranty against rust?

STAINLESS STEEL OVERVIEW: FEATURES & BENEFITS
About.com
General Information
The many unique values provided by stainless steel make it a powerful candidate in materials selection. Engineers, specifiers and designers often underestimate or overlook these values because of what is viewed as the higher initial cost of stainless steel. However, over the total life of a project, stainless is often the best value option.
What is Stainless Steel?
Stainless steel is essentially a low carbon steel which contains chromium at 10% or more by weight. It is this addition of chromium that gives the steel its unique stainless, corrosion resisting properties.
The chromium content of the steel allows the formation of a rough, adherent, invisible, corrosion-resisting chromium oxide film on the steel surface. If damaged mechanically or chemically, this film is self-healing, providing that oxygen, even in very small amounts, is present. The corrosion resistance and other useful properties of the steel are enhanced by increased chromium content and the addition of other elements such as molybdenum, nickel and nitrogen.
There are more than 60 grades of stainless steel. However, the entire group can be divided into five classes. Each is identified by the alloying elements which affect their microstructure and for which each is named.
Benefits of Stainless Steel
Corrosion resistance
Lower alloyed grades resist corrosion in atmospheric and pure water environments, while high-alloyed grades can resist corrosion in most acids, alkaline solutions, and chlorine bearing environments, properties which are utilized in process plants.
Fire and heat resistance
Special high chromium and nickel-alloyed grades resist scaling and retain strength at high temperatures.
Hygiene
The easy cleaning ability of stainless makes it the first choice for strict hygiene conditions, such as hospitals, kitchens, abattoirs and other food processing plants.
Aesthetic appearance
The bright, easily maintained surface of stainless steel provides a modern and attractive appearance.
Strength-to-weight advantage
The work-hardening property of austenitic grades, that results in a significant strengthening of the material from cold-working alone, and the high strength duplex grades, allow reduced material thickness over conventional grades, therefore cost savings.
Ease of fabrication
Modern steel-making techniques mean that stainless can be cut, welded, formed, machined, and fabricated as readily as traditional steels.
Impact resistance
The austenitic microstructure of the 300 series provides high toughness, from elevated temperatures to far below freezing, making these steels particularly suited to cryogenic applications.
Long term value
When the total life cycle costs are considered, stainless is often the least expensive material option.
Cycle of Stainless Steel
To ensure a high quality of life, the materials that we use as consumers and manufacturers should meet not only technical performance standards, but have a Long Service Life, be Usable in a Great Number of Applications, and be Environmentally Friendly. Once their service is complete, they should be 100% Recyclable, thereby completing the life cycle to be used once again. Stainless Steel is such a material.
The longevity of stainless is the result of the alloying composition and, therefore, it has a natural corrosion resistance. Nothing is applied to the surface that could add additional material to the environment. It does not need additional systems to protect the base metal, the metal itself will last.
Stainless steel needs less maintenance and its hygienic qualities means that we do not have to use harsh cleaners to get a clean surface. There is little or nothing to dump into the drain that could have an environmental impact.
Stainless steel products complete their service life. There is less concern about disposal since this material is 100% recyclable. In fact, over 50% of new stainless steel comes from old remelted stainless steel scrap, thereby completing the full life cycle.
SJ... shouldn't you be in bed?
jlandbl 03-03-2007, 05:32 AM SJ... shouldn't you be in bed?
Yeah, you too especially in your time zone!
Yes... I DEFINITELY should have been :)
