Does Jeep specify periodic checking of lug nut torques? I have had some alloy wheels in the past that would allow the lugs to "back off". If not checked, the wheels would loosen from the hubs and cause unholy damage.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to occasionally check the torque just to be safe. I check mine about 4 times a year and also when I get back from the dealer when having any service done that would require them to remove the wheels.

The aluminum wheels on my '65 would require three torque cycles. First when the wheels placed on the vehicle, 2nd after 50 miles, 3rd and final after an additional 100 miles. They stayed put after that.

I will start checking my torques after service visits, better safe than sorry.

I know someone that had a wheel fall off after a service visit years ago. Lucky they are alive.

When my friend packed up his house to move west, he purchased a car trailer to tote his Camaro with him. My moving present to him was a hydraulic floor jack, lugnut cross, and strict instructions to check his lugnut torques on the trailer at least at every fill up. He laughed.

He tightened his lugs at the begining of his trip.

He called me at his first fuel stop, sheepishly telling me that all of the lugnuts were loose, and some were only fingertight. He checked his lugs frequently for the remainder of the trip, and thanked me for the tools.

I've had aluminum wheels loosen after 100lbs, I go at least 115lb+ now. I agree w/about 3 periodic torque checks.

do you think there is a difference in lug nut toqure for a cast versus forged aluminum wheel?
