When I first got my Jeep from the dealer I instructed them not to drive it, not to wash it, etc... so not only was it filthy dirty and free of any swirl marks but also they didn't put any gas in it. The fuel gauge was about 1 millimeter below empty.

So I drove it straight to a gas station (with no license plates of course) and filled it up completely, topped it off as much as I could.

Here's the kicker... it only took 18.6 gallons, and the tank is rated at 20.5 gallons, so the reserve capacity from the empty mark is probably around 2 gallons.

I know the EVIC displays fuel range but I've found them to be inaccurate on other cars. A few years ago I had an Audi S4 and one time the computer said 0 miles remaining... for 12 miles before getting to a station, and about 10 years ago while driving an Oldsmobile Bravada on the highway I ran out of gas even though it said 32 miles remaining!
