Anyone ever used one to polish the rims? Any good? Got one as a gift for Christmas and have not opened it yet.

I am curious as well. I assume our wheels have clearcoat on them. What effect will the powerball have on the clear?

I have used the mini powerball on a set of GTA wheels. I used 400, 800 and 1000 grit sandpaper before hitting them with the powerball. I was very impressed, they are very shiny. Sorry, no pictures, they are getting painted right now.

I have one, but haven't used anything but soap and water on the wheels as of yet. I've used it in the past on the Envoy's wheels and liked it.

I used the mini powerball on mine. Worked great. It took all the grime and brake dust off the had built up over the last couple weeks of winter weather.

I have both the mini and the large one. I managed to get the small one stuck between the Brembo caliper and the rim LOL! So be careful. Personally, I find it to be a complete waste of money and in fact they both sit on my shelf. It's faster and cleaner to just clean them up by hand.

I just use a spray on wheel cleaner to loosen the brake dust, rinse with water,
and dry with a micro cloth. The wheels are clear coated so I use a good cleaner wax to protect them. I do use the balls on other wheels.............

Like paloaltodave I use spray on cleaner and I rinse using my electric powerwasher. It was the cheapest powerwasher I could find, and does an excellent job.

I currently use the Mothers All-Wheel cleaner, any suggestions for other brands?

I have used Meguiar's products for years. I use the Hot Rim's wheel cleaner
for my SRT8 wheels. It works !!!

Doesn't the Hot Rims (pinkish purple bottle) have acid in it? I have a bottle from a previous vehicle but don't want to use it simply becaue it says will irritate eyes, skin, use in well ventilated areas.

I know it says safe for clear coated rims, etc but not sure of the long term affects.

Thats scarey! I've been using Hot Rims on my SRT-8 wheels since I took delivery. I hope it does not effect the clearcoating on the rims. I need to find a safer cleaner. :(

Notice in the TV commericial, Chip Foose doesn't actually say he uses the powerball on his rims, he says he uses it on his WIFE's rims! I thought that was funny, he's implying you don't want to use it on really nice rims.

The mothers does have icky stuff in it, and should be rinsed completely after use. I have been using this product since October 05 on my Charger, havent seen any issues yet......

When I have gotten it on my skin, I do wash it away promptly. I have not had any burns yet......

I spoke to a manufacturer's representative from Alcoa who makes the wheels. He was at the Amelia Island Concours and told me the wheels should never be cleaned with anything stronger than car wash soap and then dried and waxed just like the rest of the car. He said anything else will damage/dull the clearcoat.

Its just so very difficult to get the brake dust from the inside of the backspacing.....

Absolutely agree with Stickman above....clean em, and keep a little
WheelWax or similar product on them to resist dust.

To get into the inside of rim.....try this.....swish it around, twist it etc., and it does a pretty good job of cleaning. Admittedly mine are done at least once a week, rain or shine, but they look great.
