My GC shifts quite smoothly in all of the gears except 2nd. It kind of makes a thunking noise (like it got thrown into gear really hard) especially when the car is cold. Dealer had an excuse that sounded weird at the time. (can't remember it now) It doesn't happen all of the time. Anybody else with this problem? Anybody with any ideas about this?

I have this exact same problem and posted about it in another thread. However, you describe a lot better than I did. If anyone has any answer as to what this could be please post. Someone said it may be able to be fixed when the new TCM update comes out for the 07's.

many posts on this thunk. its normal on the GC SRT8, part of initialization process when you start it. notice you don't have the sound after you drive for a bit.

I never had this sound? I'm into 3,000 miles now.

I have it, but not all the time. But everything I have read indicates it is not anything to worry about.

I have it too, usually when accelerating a bit hard (not necessarily punching it).

Once you start driving & truck warms up, it goes away.

i have the same problem too! my buddy (diesel mechanic) suggested that maybe it was designed to do that. his mustang has a shift kit and he says that it happens all the time with that. do you guys think that it is a high performance trans or a peice of junk? (i'm at 8k)

mine does it consistantly every morning, 1st to 2nd at exactly 20mph.
It is supposed to be the transfer case engaging and completely normal.
