: Coolant Leak?

I have coolant spraying from what looks like the radiator cap or overflow tube under heavy acceleration.
Any ideas?

I noticed this issue as well while I was at the track the past Friday. After every run when I opened the hood I noticed coolant had sprayed from the radiator cap. Anyone have any suggestions or experienced the same problem? I read in another thread that the radiator should be replaced.

I think it is coming from the radiator cap. Generalconfusion is searching for a different heavy duty cap. I have heard about the radiator replacement, but have not seen a TSB on it. Maybe Resumespeed or someone can help with that info. Until then, I may do like Blackstallion and put a "baggie" over the cap and neck when racing.

This never happened to me before,But my Jeep is completely stock, I know there is a spec for radiator cap spring pressure ,it seems you have similar problems,Here is a shot in the dark, I noticed some of you changed your thermostat to a 180 degree ect. do you think it can be causeing extra flow(extra pressure)?Did it ever happen with the stock stat?.Just a suggestion you might consider,Kevin...

Well I talked to the dealer this morning and found out the radiator cap is the same one as the 2006 5.7L. The price for one of these at the dealer is $25 so I figured I would try another brand (they wanted the car for the whole day to do this under warranty). I called several parts stores and found a Lever Loc Stant part number 11334 for the 2006. Hopefully this will take care of it. It only cost $6 so not a big gamble. If it doesn't I guess I will leave it at the dealer for the day. I will post results.

same exact problem here. It sprayed over the engine for the second time. It only has 800 miles on it. Needless to say it is at the dealer now and they told me they can't find anything wrong. They pressure tested the cooling system for four hours, no leaks. Now they are going to call Chrysler and see what they say. I'll post any info they find.

Are you still using the stock t-stat? I have not had any problems since I changed the radiator cap.

As soon as I switched to a 180, my cap also sprays, going for the Stant 11334

I noticed the spray from mine when I was wiping down the engine this weekend after a wash. Mine has 8K miles and I never noticed the spray before this wash, so it just started happening on mine. Mine is going back to dealer soon for an oil change and week of bed rest (time for the dealer to work on the rattles again)...I'll ask them to look at this since they will already have it for an extended stay :) I also noticed that one of my noises is the passenger corner of the rear hatch hitting/rubbing the exterior plastic (part of the rear bumper). It's made a nice rubmark on both painted surfaces that I'm not sure I want them to try to fix. Would you ask them to fix the paint there knowing that I'm selling it soon???

at Autozone, I got the motor-rad lever cap $7 - they didn't have a Stant

thanks, going to purchase the stant cap today and put my t-stat back in. I thought it was coincidental that it sprayed only with the lower t-stat. I'll keep my fingers crossed this time.

Put the stant 11334 on a few days ago. No leak since. I made sure to hammer it several times to make sure. Good call and thanks for the info.

funny... I ran my truck several times (bone stock), and didn't have any kind of cap leaks. I figured whatever problem others had was resolved on the 07. Put in a 185 tstat and fan switch about a month ago, hammered it several runs, and just opened the hood today for some routine maint. and guess what! Coolant everywhere on the pass. side of the motor, overflow tank at the min mark. So what's up with the lower-temp tstats causing the leaks?

I just found a Stant 11334 and it's going on tonight. I'd still like to know what DCX repsonds with (although if they found out a tstat change was involved all bets would be off).

The dealer checked mine out weeks ago, pressure tests etc. and found no problems.
I hadn't had a leak since, then, took it out yesterday for a couple of 0-100 WOT runs and the leak is back.
I have stock t-stat, will try the different cap and let you guys know.

Just get the $5.00 stant and be done with it

I changed my cap today to the Stant.
NO more leaks.
That should be listed as the FIRST mod on the way home from the dealer.
