What is the blackest tint available on the market? I know that a lot of aftermarket tint films have a certain hue of color to them like a bronze, bluish, greenish and so on. I DON'T want that at all! I want a true black tint so that it matches my vehicle! Does anyone know the best tint for me to go with?

I believe 5% is the darkest tint available.

See this thread for matching the Jeep SRT8 rear tint, which is approx. 18%:

Madico window film IMO is the best out there, Llumar is another option. My recommendations for dark as possible with out destroying night time vision, do 20% on the front doors, 35% on the rear doors, rear window, and hatch. along with a 20% 6-8in visor strip. THey make a charcoal tint that does not have the titanium/silver effect.

I did 5% all over mine. 5% over stock makes it super dark and the fronts aren't to bad. I'll take a picture of it when i get a chance.
3M CS (color stable) is the best in my opinion. It wont ever fade for the life of the tint and it has a warentee to back it up.

I also recommend you pm Hallstar as he is a tint guy and is on here all the time.

The darkest tint possible is called Black Out and is 0% light transmission...It is available through worldwide sun control and we use it on work vans and show vehicles!!! It has to be cut with our plotter cause it transmits nothing and is completely opaque!!! I personally put 5% on my Jeeps rears with 10% on the fronts and 20% on the entire windshield!!! I like the car commercial look and the privacy that comes with doing the windshield!!! Most of my customers do their windshields 40% which cuts down on glare significantly but does not pose a problem visual wise at all...Very clean looking!!! Forget the strip cause it is so last year and it is never where you need it when the sun comes over that hill... plus depending on tint regs in your state it typically is the asi line and nothing more(3-5 inches max)!!! Everyday I turn STRIPPERS into Full Windshields and they never look back...Just a thought!!!
Hallstar Tint & Detail Inc...PS...I only use metallic 2mil films and they match my vehicles factory colors perfectly or they don't get purchased!!! My shop has every high line film you can think off...over 50k in films alone...even the 20% green which is on the VW...ugh!!!

Can you quote the specific shade that matches the factory colour spot on? I would like to do my front 2 windows 35%. Thanks.

The Global HP 2 mil from worldwide sun control at 35% seems to be almost identical in HUE to the factory tinted glass...It looks great on and lasts forever...My friend loves 3M but it shows a lot of green at light shades and I find that the glue doesn't tack well especially in cold weather...the Global color is Charcoal by the way...They have slate too but it has as much metal as mirror films and will be wet until summer...it has a slight blue color which is way off for your application!!! GOOD LUCK!!!

hallstar, if you have a plotter could you cut some front windows (microedge of course) with that global hp? I'm sure you'd have people interested in 20% and 35%, then you just roll it up in a poster tube and ship.

I could easily do that but microedging is done by hand with a lot of heat and some very fine files...the Computer Cut will allow a 16th of an inch without microedge and you will also have to go behind the gasket on the door about a 1/4 of an inch so it will have to be washed well once you roll it up to keep felt debris from sucking up into the tint!!! I would also suggest taping the felt on the fronts with blue painters tape for a perfect or as close to perfect job you can get!!! Also a lot of shops will not use other peoples tint and even if they install it... will not warranty it at all!!!

i thought a microedge was around 1/16th of an inch, it sounds like your microedge should be called a nanoedge!

There's nobody in my area of the Caribbean who can shrink a windshield. Feel like coming down? I could line up a bunch of cars for you to do to make it worth your time. If you got a long weekend to spare I can set you up with a car and a condo, you just pay for the plane ticket.

Idealrides,
That sounds more than inviting...I'll have to check my schedule...it's real tight right now!!! I'll try to get some things lined up here and get them out of the way...maybe mid to late March I'll try to free some stuff up and keep you posted...it looks like you own a shop right...I'll teach you guys and then the skys the limit! I'll also show you the nano edge as well which will take some practice of course but once perfected nothing comes close!!!

Where are you located and what tint do you suggest for front windows in a locality here in MD that gets pretty aggressive about tint laws?

I'm in Laurel,Md. and as a suggestion I would say keep it legal cause they(the police) are giving monetary fines now as well as a repair order to a tune of $110.00...Completely up to you though...I just tell the police that they will run out of ink before I run out of $...They love that!!!
