: Weird Thing Happened Today
JDR07 02-15-2007, 06:18 PM I think this problem may have been discussed in another thread but I can't find it, so here goes...
Started the car up today, no engine light or anything, although every gear on the display was highlighted, as if every gear (park, neutral, reverse, drive) was selected simultaneously. Then when I put it in drive and let my foot off the brake, there was a violent thud as the car started moving. And as if that wasn't enough to get me all concerned, the car would not shift out of first gear, even when i attempted autosticking it.
HOWEVER...
After shutting it off and restarting it again, every problem i observed was completely gone. Anyone have an idea what went wrong the first time?

No idea. But the same exact thing happened to me a couple days ago. It was real cold, and I was reversing out of a parking spot in a warm car. Turned it off, started it back up and it was fine. :dunno:

Thats a really strange issue, i've never heard of it. I'd probally take it to the dealer to see if it threw a code that they might be able to use to diagnose what happened.

Being in chicago the cold weather does seem to do odd things to the jeep. Last time i turned it on it chimed "service AWD system" and than it stopped and havent seen it since.
JDR07 02-15-2007, 07:06 PM theres an computer/electronic system that controls the shifter and transmission, right? it might have just screwed that up and need to be like rebooted or something. ill be fine as long as it doesnt happen again.

Come to think of it, I got that same warning when that happened to me. Hasn't happened since, so I'm just not worried about it.

I'm guessing its even possible the car is "learning" how to work under extreme temperatures. And odds are we wont run into these 'quirks' again.
stevem 02-15-2007, 07:58 PM It's happened to me twice. All of the shift indicators on the dash have boxes around them. It also won't shift out of first gear. Both times I have shut off the enigne and it seems to be ok when I restart. It's definitely an electronic issue.
I'm in los Angeles, so it's not cold here right now.
I will ask the dealer about it when I go in for my 3000 mile checkup later this month.

PsychoSRT8 02-16-2007, 03:07 PM this happened to me 2 days ago (milage was exactly at 4550 miles) all the gears were highlighted and wouldn't shift past 1st gear. ( i'm in SoCal and weather was about 60) turned the car off and restarted and back to normal. nothing since.
JDR07 02-16-2007, 06:55 PM it hasnt happened again so im thinkin it was just a freak thing. im glad im not the only one who has observed this however
maxxjeep 02-17-2007, 12:18 AM Nearly every day I get "Service tire pressure system" and "auto highbeam on"
EVERYDAY!
It's getting old quick. It has been in the teens, low twenties, and one day 9 degrees.

I have had this happen, it just cranks and does not start until the second try.
millers_srt 02-17-2007, 09:55 AM Sounds like when mine was in limp mode the first day I had it. Mine wouldn't rev out either and was loosing power. After cycling the key I've need had it happen again. I do still get the "Service 4WD System" display every now and again.
