: Audi S4 Avant RIP
Dr.Steve 02-14-2007, 03:50 PM Well I was on my way home on the scenic GSP yesterday and sitting in the left lane moving nicely when all of a sudden I saw a pair of bright HIDs closing quickly on my rear. I was in no hurry so I slid right to see who was approaching and an S4 wagon pulled up, the guy was on his cell and didn't see me right away but I hung next to him and when he realized what I was doing we started doing some maneuvering. We cleared some nice speeds, but I managed to remain in 4th in manumatic and hang with and ahead of him. He and I slowed up as we approached the next toll and rolled down our windows. . . his first comment was "man that thing is sick", I asked him if he wanted to try me from a dig at the booth since we had a clear path and he hesitated, then said sure, why not? Hehe . . . after a few honks from behind from impatient cars, he and I hit it and I pulled out by about 3 lengths almost immediately and buried him deep after that, he NEVER had a chance, but gave me a huge thumbs up as I let him pass a few miles down the road. . . . man this truck is fun every day!
kramsay1234 02-14-2007, 05:09 PM As a former S4 owner, its nice to see he was good about it. Of course I don't have my '02 twin turbo anymore to prove it, but with full exhaust and downpipes and stage 2+, I think they would be neck and neck in the 1/4 but I am sure my Jeep would win from the dig. Car was high 12's, low 13's.
Good story. Thanks.

I think an S4 with any mods will walk the GCSRT8. I had a black 2000 S4, 6MT, with the APR ECU (18psi). Felt faster than the truck. The S4 would pull mid 1.6 60 foots, which I think the SRT8 would have a hard time doing.
z28plus 02-14-2007, 06:01 PM I ran a twin turbo S4 here in Denver a month or so ago. We started at 70MPH, and went up to 120, and I had about 1 car length on him. I could hear the turbo whine each time. We went about 4 times. I have a GSM intake, and a mopar exhaust.
kramsay1234 02-14-2007, 06:14 PM my S4 was Stage 2+ APR. APR 2.5" downpipes to 3" out the back and the 93 octane APR ECU program.
Never took it to the track, but it would be a good race with the SRT8. Best part is I went from a really fast car into an SUV and didn't lose anything in performance (all things considered) which is great. If I had room would have been great to keep both.

wait!!!!!! wait!!! You had 6 SRT4's???????????
Goldengreek5 02-15-2007, 07:48 AM The new S4's are dogs. Non turbo. V8's I think. I smoked one pretty bad on the highway. The older turbo models, few mods and they screw.
ChopperPilot16 02-15-2007, 09:07 AM I also went from a Black 2000 S4 6spd to the SRT8 and do miss it a little but when I hear the V8 rumble it goes away quick. Ive heard a lot of people on hear that had an S4 before the BEAST anybody else?
My 2002 S4 TT (with a chip) ran side by side with my '04. Both 6M. The turbo models have tremendous potential. The V8 doesn't seem to have the interest by the aftermarket co's.

kramsay1234 02-15-2007, 09:28 AM Much less potential for tuning without the turbos. It is well posted that a full exhaust twin turbo car with chip will make a mockery of the V8. Not that a 340hp V8 is any slouch.
Then enter RS4......

Trust me, my '04 only pulls my STOCK FOR NOW Jeep above 100.
Enter 76k+ (US) for that RS4!!!! Donations?
Brendan
kramsay1234 02-15-2007, 09:53 AM I would like to be first in line for the donation pool. Ran into the service manager at my old Audi dealership who had the rear RS4 badge from a car on his desk. I asked what he was doing with that and he told me a guy bought one for his 17 year old son and the son didn't want the emblem on the back!
The RS4 badge is now safe at home with me. Now I just need a car to stick it on.

Took the "RS4" off? Ugh! Damn shame. Good for you though.:D
Mango 02-15-2007, 11:04 AM Yes, lets compare modded turbo cars to STOCK SRT-8's.
UGGHH I hate it when people do this:
stock truck races car
fans of car come into thread and start talking about "what if"'s
"well my heavily modded car would run from the jeep blah blah blah"
kramsay1234 02-15-2007, 11:31 AM Since I like this member I refuse to take the bait. Almost had me though... :D

Dr.Steve 02-15-2007, 12:13 PM didn't mean to stir the pot here, just a relaying a fun time on my way home:)
yaccster 02-15-2007, 05:18 PM Hope the new RS4 spends less time in the shop than my old RS6 did, it doesn't matter how fast your car is when you have to drive a loaner A6....
idealrides 02-16-2007, 06:31 AM Theres a picture floating around on the internet of a RS4 Avant in europe that was rebadged as an A4 2.8. Talk about a sleeper!
I sure miss those turbos, squealing at 18 psi...

kramsay1234 02-16-2007, 09:08 AM I couldn't agree more. I used to wait for the worst snow storm and then go out for a drive. Had Pilot Alpins on it and the thing was a snowmobile.
