: Venders: How about a 2WD switch that WORKS!
navyavi469 04-17-2009, 07:32 PM The old style 2WD switch will give you RWD, but at the expense of frying a transfer case. The clutch packs do not disengage when power is secured from the TC becuase the TC is designed to ALWAYS have a portion of torque going to the front axle.
How about a 2WD switch that integrates with the stock transfer case wiring harness to reverse drive the tripple-planetary gear seat in the opposite direction? Doesn't sound too hard for some of our 10lb brains.
Get$$$Man 04-17-2009, 07:51 PM Why would we wanna loose the benefit of having the AWD though?
SRT8 4 J 04-17-2009, 07:54 PM Do ridiculous burnouts?!?!?!? :D
Grip Grip 04-17-2009, 07:59 PM Why would we wanna loose the benefit of having the AWD though?
You could swith to 2wd after launch and beneifit from less drivetrain loss from running through the transfer case.
rwboring 04-17-2009, 08:03 PM you are still spinning the front end... so i dont know how much it would help... i mean there are no "hubs" to lock in or out...
JJJ93z 04-17-2009, 08:21 PM This would be ideal for heating up the tires before a run as well as a safe way to use a 2wd dyno.
navyavi469 04-17-2009, 08:30 PM This would be ideal for heating up the tires before a run as well as a safe way to use a 2wd dyno.
Yes, the idea is for burnouts to heat up the rear tires.
Grip Grip 04-17-2009, 08:42 PM Finally, someone put two brain cells together and a spark happened. Yes, the idea is simply for burnouts to heat up the rear tires.
Your sarcasm really makes you come across as a prick Winston. :(

Lol, sorry, its been a rough week. Very frustrated with a few things right now. Appologize for the prickness.
navyavi469 04-17-2009, 08:47 PM Your sarcasm really makes you come across as a prick Winston. :( Grow up.
... my job has me negotiating half billion dollar contracts with a bunch of thieves trying to rip off uncle sam. Its turning me into a prick... SORRY! :(

I appreciate and respect your intellect and responsibility, but it would be nice it you stopped talking down to all of us. No one likes a smart ass, and a smart ass can be a guy with a sub 90 IQ or a MIT grad managing billion dollar contracts for the government. Just food for thought.
No harm no foul. :) I'd hate to be under the stress your dealing with, but I'd love the pay. :)
navyavi469 04-17-2009, 08:57 PM You're right I should watch out for how the sarcasm comes across. Sometime I'm engrossed in it and don't realize how overt it can be. I think in the military its so prevalent that its part of the language.
I'll go edit that post.

I suspect that most of us are much different online than in person. I have a tendency to vent online, since my wife and boss won't stand for it. :D
Harrison@Stage6 04-17-2009, 09:19 PM Don't listen to Ant guys...... he talked smack about ALL you guys today. He whines like a little girl!!
Just kidding.:D

Muellge 04-17-2009, 09:45 PM :)What's a vender? I rarely go spelly on people but wth, its Friday. All joking aside, would it also have to disenhage the t/c so as not to boil it?

On a German car, its the piece of metal that protects the front and rear of the car from bumping into things.
There goes that sarcasm again!
Muellge 04-17-2009, 09:57 PM Oh Scheiße, you were supposed to give me "greif" about spelling disengage.
Again, I don't do the spelly thing often. Just having a little fun I'm stil trying to translate NAG and it keep giving me "wife".
Really, for that swtich, it would have to do something to not harm the t/c, right?
EDIT: btw, congrats on finally getting that snail to "leave its trail" the way you've been working on for so long. 11.0x anything is pretty damn fast.
SRT-MANA 04-17-2009, 10:58 PM you guys are too much for my friday:)
Blown-WK 04-17-2009, 11:21 PM W the prick for president....hahaha
BuilderBill 04-18-2009, 06:41 AM Ok Winston how about trying this technique.....
*Shut off the beast before the burnout.
*Start engine and engage the TC button.
*Creep into the burnout box. The transfercase clutches will be disengaged.
*Burnout....the transfercase will "search and find" the clutch pack at 20.5mph
At least you will have a "quickie" burnout up until 20.5 mph.
Any other "switch" etc. will throw you into limp mode and you will need to recycle your key to get it happy again.
We will never get a programmer interested in helping out the tiny number of guys would could use this.

Is this true for stock transfer cases too bill? I assume by "engage the TC button" you mean it will be on when the vehicle is restarted and you will push it to disengage the TC so the light on the dash is lit?

Nope sorry, I guess I was not very clear.
Restart the beast and THEN push in the Mr. Squiggle button. Light in dash on.
Its worth a shot....burnout before the transfer case goes through its test cycle.
Bill
Swedish SRT8-owner 04-18-2009, 02:08 PM Simply remove your front wheels and convert your Jeep into SEGWAYstyle:rolleyes:
hoseclamp 04-19-2009, 12:01 AM Manual hub conversion, have one hub unlocked, all front drive will go to unlocked side, after burn lock in and go, maybe a buddy standing by can do the hub?
SoonToBeSRT 04-19-2009, 04:49 PM hahah great thread again, from winstons demeaning rants to Ant getting caught ranting himself, (who doesn't vent online, its easy to get feelings out through our fingers ;) But seriously, although possible as Bill said, its business and if a company cant get it to be profitable (to their likes) it wont happen, so unless Bill takes some spare time ;) or anyone here cna design it and make a few for friends and not worry about make a buck on it, it wont happen. What happen to friendly favors lol, j/k this is communist country hehe ;) Either way, just pull a fuse, disable the power to TC and fry it for some nice burnouts and repeat, if you have mad $ anythings possible ;) GL
btw - eff Rick G!! hes on fquick.com and friended Matt M lol, what a creep he is, Im only on cuz im an enthusiast but him, pshh he couldnt differentiate between a piston and connecting rod from his co*k and balls, mofoer
Murfman 04-20-2009, 06:44 AM I'd like to up the ante, How about a 2 way switch, one position for true 2WD as stated above, and another for true 4WD for the launch with the TC fuse pulled? Best of both worlds. No traction control, and a true 4WD launch. Even better a MPH window switch that automatically switches from 4wd to 2wd at a selectable speed.

Now you're talkin dude!!! I would love that, but we'd still need manual hubs to eliminate all front drive drag.
JohnsonSRT8 08-23-2009, 01:30 AM BUMP still interested!!!!
Mike_Levy 08-23-2009, 01:44 AM Can't work, won't ever happen. Easy way to burn out the Transfer case clutches. Let it die.
