Got my billet door pins the other day which of course look great. Read all the posts from everyone saying the stock ones need the help of some pliars to remove. This is correct and no hope of saving them unharmed as they are on very tightly and it takes more than moderate pressure to turn them (not that it matters since old ones won't be going back on).

Put on the drivers side rear and front door and then move to the passenger side door. One turn with the pliars and "snap" followed by the sound of plastic pieces falling inside my door. Obviously the plasic piece that holds the lock arm to the mechanism inside the door broke and now I am left holding the door lock arm in my hand, with of course the stock door pin still on it having not even broken loose. Now will have to remove the door panel, assess the damage and replace whatever broke.

I guess it couldn't go smoothly for everyone.

that sux, sorry to hear it man - looks like they practically super glued the old one and when you turned it - it turned the whole mechinsm. And i dont know who said those pins were on lightly because they are wayyyy hard to get off.

Yeh. Worst of it is that I now have to remove a door panel on a brand new truck that otherwise shouldn't have been removed. Hopefully it will just get fixed and I won't end up with any unwanted future rattles in the door.

whoah, that sux big time. I was contemplating replacing the pins as well. I tried to twist the stock pin with pliers and a rag...just to see how tough it would be. didn't budge, so gave up. no worth the potential pain in the butt.

Thanks for the regrets.

Update - was at dealership yesterday. There is a black plastic piece on the lock assembly that snapped and of course cannot be ordered separately so I had to order an entire new lock assembly and will have to go back to have it replaced. :(

On the brighter side, for those I scared with this post - I am 100% sure that my issues were the result of attempting this in sub zero temperatures. Even though I was in my underground garage, I am sure the plastic pieces were brittle as all get out. I did the rear passenger door while the dearler was talking apart my front yesterday, and it was much easier than the other night when I did the drivers side front and rear. Just a good grip on the stock lock pin with channel lock pliars and some slow turning and they come off. Again, don't expect to save the stockers.

Didn't occur to me at the time that this was a fair weather mod. :o

When I did mine, I taped a t shirt around the top of the door panel and the door skin, and used a t shirt around the pin itself. It saved the stock pin (not that you would need to), but it also kept the shock to a minimum as I got them loose.

It took a bit longer, but most likely kept unpleasantries from taking place.
