: Transmission Dipstick
jlandbl 02-13-2007, 06:41 AM Does anyone know where I can buy a transmission dipstick for our vehicle and how much? Can this be ordered on-line or do I need to go to the dealer? I'm just not comfortable with the deleted dipstick. Especially after my dealer had to add trans fluid after my o-ring problem a few months ago. I really want to check the level. Thanks in advance.
Mango 02-13-2007, 02:56 PM I remember reading that someone found a part# for it. I found a few threads but no numbers.

LOL! I love Flex's response in this thread.

jlandbl 09-25-2007, 07:36 AM Re-bumping this thread, OK, I just reviewed a bunch of threads on this after searching. I'm ready to buy a trans dipstick. Unfortunately, none of the threads showed the actual dipstick part # that we should be using. Some say we need a MB stick, others say the LX stick works, but I really want to correct stick. Does anyone have the part number for the Jeep SRT8 trans dip stick?
cobrakid 09-25-2007, 12:03 PM good question, I got the e-bay MB dip, and it went in all but 8 inches.......
........ twisted and puched and it went in...........went to remove and
stopped about 8 inches in, and had to force out??????????????
Kinda worried, to do it again??????
It is springy with plastic on the top & bottom.
Might slip by the dealer and measure theirs????????????????

Yep, that's exactly why I want to know the proper part number. I remember reading your post about that and do not want to risk anything. Please keep me posted if you find out any more detail. Thanks.
jlandbl 09-26-2007, 06:14 AM Wow, no one knows? No one on this site checks their trans fluid? Everyone is relying on the dealer to check it? I'm shocked.
BuilderBill 09-26-2007, 07:05 AM Quoted from our buddy Edwin from the "other" site:
Go to a Mercedes-Benz dealer and get a 722.6 Transmission dipstick PN# 140 589 15 21 00 (double check the PN#). It is a better quality tool that the Chrysler tool.
Candyman....where are you???

jlandbl 09-26-2007, 08:00 AM Thanks Bill, I'll check that one out.
Thanks Candyman. Mango provided me that part a while back. Do we know for sure that it works for the Jeep? I see the LX cars mentioned.
Anyone actually have used either of these?

Wow, it says WK. That's what you mean right? Thanks! Now the Special Tool 9336 is yet another part number.
You must have different internet search tools than me or I am a spaz.
candyman 09-26-2007, 11:19 AM Actually upon further reading it looks as if the special tool is for the LX platform and the WK uses a dipstick. Read the "note" between #39 & #40. Also read #41. Maybe you should talk to someone at a dealership and see what they use to check the trans fluid level. I give up!!!!

I was able to get this tool for free and wouldn't mind checking my tranny oil (I had the leak as many did here 'cause of the faulty O-ring) however I'm not sure what the procedure is to measure accurately. The tool is pretty long and doesn't fit fully into the tube it should mate to. I tried dipping it in there forcefully and it came up all slick with no indication of oil level.
Anyone know?
jlandbl 10-17-2007, 07:15 PM Interesting post from the SRT Engineers during tonight's chat session question about the deleted trans dip stick:
"The Mercedes trans fluid level is very sensitive to fluid temperature. Therefore an accurate measurement requires fluid temp as well as dip stick level and then reference a table to determine fill level."
