I was prepared to order an 07 now black loaded just so I wouldnt have to get the tacky glitter-black but now it looks like i may end up with the glitter anyway.

TIA

Depends how bad you want the known new features.

Personally, after RS revealed that the 09 is scheduled to get the 6.4L Hemi......I wouldn't get an 08 knowing that a year later the GC is most likely getting a 500+hp engine.

The 08 isn't coming out for at least 5-6 months.

If I were shopping now, I would just get the 07.

Done.....just ordered the 07 loaded clearcoat black (hopefully without sparkle).
Thanks for the advice.

Will I be able to plug my ipod into the rear dvd audio input with an rca->minijack cable?

Don't let the news keep you from buying. Chrysler has done some really good things for Jeep, and I hope they continue the trend. I like my '06, and I don't think anything is going to make me want a later model if something happens to mine like getting stolen or totaled. I'll try to find another early '06.

Good luck !

Either get one now, or wait till 2009 when the Grand Cherokee gets a makeover, and uses the W164 platform. It's rediculous to me to buy an 08, only to have a completely new truck debut the following year.

May be a stupid question but has anybody seen any Pictures of what the New bodystyle is going to look like?

The next generation Grand Cherokee will not debut until either the 2010 or 2011 model year.

It's going to be based on the Trailhawk concept.

Right. So you get an 08 in 07, an 09 in 08, and a 2010 in 09.

2009 is the model year end for this body/chassis design.

Like I stated.

NOT like you stated :)

You said:

"It's ridiculous to me to buy an 08, only to have a completely new truck debut the following year..."

"the following year" of "an '08" model is an "09" model...

Maybe in styling. The Trailhawk is based off the 4dr Wrangler. The new GC will share platforms w/the new M-class & Durango(Commander has been axed).

Yeah, I get the idea, but others may be misled. There is a BIG difference between "buying an '08 and a new model coming ONE year later", vs a new model coming TWO years later.

The 2008 models will for certain have the current 6.1L engine. The new 6.4L is set to debut in the 2009 model year which will still be the current generation styling. An all-new Grand Cherokee will debut in the 2010 or 2011 model year. The first two generations of Grand Cherokees have run 6 model years. If they stay true to that, then we are looking at 2011 model year for the next gen.

Is it official that 2009 will get 6.4. or is it just rumors going around the internet that gets parotted by everyone.

I thought the 6.4 was a crate race engine, and there was no official word that it will go into any prod car.

The crate engine is sold/marketed as a "392". The upcoming new Hemi engine will be marketed as a "6.4L". The 6.4L has not been officially acknowledged or announced. A "6.4L" has been rumored and talked about for a couple years on many different message boards. Recently a couple of highly respectable insiders with accurate track records posted convincing details that the new engine was given the green light. Needless to say, some folks at SRT were not too pleased about the leak.

I have personally seen internal documents that specifically mention this engine, their is no doubt that it is coming and that it will be the next SRT8 engine. The production version has now passed certification and emissions. It will debut in the upcoming Challenger SRT8 and will appear in 2009-2010 SRT8 models including the Grand Cherokee, Charger, and 300C. I can also tell you something that has not been mentioned anywhere else yet, that SRT8 export models of the Grand Cherokee are also set to get the 6.4.

I would say to expect the 6.4 to appear in the Grand Cherokee in either the 2009 or 2010 model year, as the inside info stated it would be in the current generation which ends in '09 or '10. I would say that the 2009 model year looks to be the most likely, for not only the Jeep but other SRT models as well.

So... now that the 6.4L engineering work is finished, team SRT is now working on a 6.9L Hemi (i.e. "426"). Gotta love "progress"!

RS - as always, thank you for the great info. Now, the huge dilemma of getting the '08 this summer or waiting another year to two years. I am leaning towards getting the '08 and enjoying the car rather than sitting here and agonizing. :) Especially given that there will always be something better and faster.

One more thing - are we pretty sure that the interior improvements will be made in 08 or will it be skipped again? Also, I presume no exterior changes are planned for '08 other than possible change in headlight - hopefully a projector style HID similar to 300C.

No one has been able to confirm yet if there will be any interior improvements or not, if I had to guess I would say "yes", they gotta give us something!

Standard Grand Cherokees will get a slightly refreshed front fascia, the headlights and grille shape look the same, no idea if the front of the SRT is being altered at all.

Here is a pic of a 2008 Limited undergoing testing in Europe:

Headlight washers available on export models only; HID's for North America and export models.

Headlamp washers are a legal requirement in several countries. They are a scheduled future option for North American Jeeps (WK & XK), but maybe not until the 2009 model year.

Could the headlamp washers be "retro-fitted" to the domestic models? If so, what would be involved?

What if Daimler-Benz sells off Chrysler as it is being talked about in the news and who ever buys it kills off the SRT division? I would not wait for the next model year if I was in the market to buy the Jeep, there might not be a next model year!

Good point. I'd buy now and see what happens in a few years.

I don't think we'll see immediate changes. If they do sell the division, that process will take quite a while to complete. I'd bet that we wouldn't see changes, since they're working on their '08 lineup now.

But more importantly, just buy the '07 and enjoy it for another year. :D
