: Racemesh has arrived!
I've talked with a few of you about the different grill options that I've been working with. Street Scene Speed Grill was one option (it ultimately required too much fabrication for me to devote myself to), home made is an option, but truthfully not one I was very interested in, and the Racemesh grill.
So without any very high hopes (not a knock agaisnt them at all..... they are just a new name to me, and the lone product on the market), I ordered the racemesh grills. I was told that shipping would take place 4 weeks after my order was placed. A bit longer than I'm accustomed to, but because I ordered within hours of the products becoming available, I was willing to understand the lengthy wait. They stayed in touch with me via email, and responded to the emails I sent them promptly.
The package shipped on Saturday, and arrived today. I opened it up, and had one specific thing I wanted to see right away. How flush the fit was to the contour of the upper stock grill surround. I can't stand uneven, misaligned, or crooked mods. They have this thing lined up absolutely perfectly. There are no gaps between the grill and the surround what-so-ever. The main lower grill has a nice trim piece around it, and the brake cowl pieces are small, but cut precisely. The grill material is very heavy duty and substantial to the touch. I haven't even looked at the install instructions yet, but will post my findings after install, hopefully along with some additional pictures.

Check out the RM site for pics of it on a black SRT8.

palo alto dave 02-13-2007, 12:51 AM Just got mine today too !! I will get it on in the next few days. Michael was great to work with. He is very helpful with a nice product and clear instructions to make installation easy. I think its well worth the price.
jlandbl 02-13-2007, 06:19 AM That looks like a great product, can't wait to see on on the silver SRT8.
OurZoo 02-13-2007, 07:56 AM Definitely get that mesh on before the meet on the 25th Dave. Can't wait to check it out in person.
I will post some pics this morning, when I get into the office..... but the upper and lower install took a total of about 10 minutes. I haven't added the brake duct pieces yet.... those will require me laying on the ground, and it was wet yesterday where I was working.
maxxjeep 02-13-2007, 08:03 AM Maybe a dumb question...
Did the main grille peices come attatched to a new, already painted grille?
From the pics it looks like an entirely new full setup. Or did you just already put those on for the pictures?
kramsay1234 02-13-2007, 08:16 AM My personal opinion is that this will look better on silver than on black. This is only because the monochrome black look stock is extremely mean looking and less "bling". On the silver though it should tie in great. Looking forward to pics!

Ink Pump 02-13-2007, 08:17 AM I'm sorry if I missed this guys but what is the price?
Looks great on the jeep - Can I really do this myself on a Saturday morning without upsetting the whole family?
Not a dumb question at all...... yes, it did come with a whole new, already painted grill surround.
And yes-- ANYONE can install this thing in no time at all.
Dr.Steve 02-13-2007, 09:36 AM has anyone else tried the cut and fit method using the product from custom car grills? I know that scottiekay from our site did this on his red and it looked great. I like the race mesh product and the easy install, but I would really like to save $400 if I can and spend it elsewhere, if I can get a sheet of the black powdercoat diamond XXL mesh from customcargrills and the fit is not noticeably different than the race mesh (read crappier!), then I'll go with the more troublesome cutting and installing. . . any opinions out there?

The two most noticeable differences (IMHO) are:
1) The material (perforated expanded sheet metal Vs Woven Wire Mesh)
2) The fit and finished look
Not to mention the time involved to DIY.

I'll take some better pics with a non-cheapo camera, after I get it cleaned up a bit. At the distances I shot from, the mesh didn't photograph all that well.

Is it safe to say SeanJohn works for RaceMesh?
I've thought the same thing since he made his debut in these threads back in December. LOL
kramsay1234 02-13-2007, 12:25 PM I think it would be good to post before and after similar view photos if you can.

The more I look at it, the more I realize that the black inserts up top really complimented the big black mouth down below. I'm going to have to look at this for a week or two before I decide if I like the look the way it sits, or if I need to possibly add a touch of silver paint to the big black mouth.

I see what you mean but I don't think you can make a decision until you add the right and left lower pieces. I think that will tie it all together.

Excellent point.

maxxjeep 02-13-2007, 03:25 PM Looks great ge2, but what are the small black things in the bottom area? there is one on each side, like below the license plate?
Those are laser shifters. I wanted a shark with a laser on it's head, but a big gray suv that gobbles up lesser prey was all I could find. So I added laser shifters :)

I think I like the look w/o the mesh in the brake ducts, call me crazy. :)

JDR07 02-13-2007, 07:36 PM in my opinion, you should paint all that black stuff silver. looks killer!
palo alto dave 02-13-2007, 09:30 PM Very nice ge2 !! I did mine tonight but was to dark to take pictures. I did the
brake duct first, the center and finally the grill. A trick to doing the ducts, reach under and feel the duct tube, mine wiggled enough to slide the grill
between the duct and the front bumper. Once started, wiggle the grill into place. I used stainless safety wire to attach instead of the plastic wire ties.
I think they are nearly invisable when there bent over inline with the grill bars.
Excellent advice Dave!! Thanks!
TXBLU 02-14-2007, 09:40 AM Looks nice!!! I can hardly wait for mine to come in. It's been a couple of weeks since I ordered them, and I check the front porch every day like a kid waiting for Santa to show up!!!
are there install pics that I missed?
jlandbl 02-14-2007, 09:58 AM are there install pics that I missed?
Yup, see post # 18 in this thread.
Se7en 02-15-2007, 05:38 PM ge2,
That looks great! Congrats!!
TXBLU 02-17-2007, 07:14 AM Mine came in and are installed!!! I really like the way it looks. I might be able to get a couple of pics of the installed grills today. It depends on what kind of shape our inbound airplanes are. Otherwise, I'll get pics as soon as I can. I will be taking pics on Monday that show the little tricks I used to install mine.
:D
Mango 02-19-2007, 03:29 PM You sold me on it ge2! This and those drilled/slotted rotors will probably be my next mods.

EX-SVTMAN 06-25-2007, 04:43 PM OK....So I got mine today and no one ever followed up on these threads to show the "tips and tricks" of the install. The one I'm worried about is the brake duct mesh's....
Help...anyone?
EX.
skoobz2001 03-11-2008, 10:52 AM I caught a rock that literally punched a hole in my OEM grill - so I'm thinking I may as well go for the Racemesh now. Dealership wants $360 CDN + labor for the install of a regular grill. For $649, I'd rather go with the mesh.
My questions is this: How hard is the install? I saw the post prior to mine but never saw an answer... The lower grille looks easy, but I'm not sure about the brake duct pieces or the main grille. Help me out guys - the BB-sized hole in my grille is driving me crazy and I need to fix it quick!!

Stock looks BEAST
That's another concern - I don't want to take away the "mean" look of the Beast. I looked at the thread with the black racemesh on black, and didn't like it.
Maybe I'm better off going OEM and putting $300 towards other (performance enhancing) mods...
ChrisWK 03-11-2008, 11:23 AM Save your money the stock mesh is the best,Get the mesh painted silver or chromed .Later
skoobz2001 03-11-2008, 12:32 PM Ordered an OEM.
jeepaholic 03-11-2008, 03:29 PM I am sorry to say but I did the same thing for $20.00 . I used stainless steel wire mesh. I got it at a surplus store. They sell it by the linear foot. I could have make two sets with the piece I bought.
