I went to STS and they informed me that my frt. brakes need replacement. Pads and rotors total $950 plus tax.
Does that sound right? I only have 23k miles on an 07.

it should only take about 2 hours MAX to do... if you knwo what you are doing it can take 30 min and 2 beers...

a lot of times you dont need rotors when you do brakes... but if you went through brakes in 25k miles... youll prob need rotors also...

how many of your miles are interstate?

I know this will probably sound weird...but has anyone tried using pads/rotors from like Autozone or another local auto parts store?? I know they are no where near performance rated as what comes on the SRT8's or the other aftermarket Pads. But when looking online at Autozone, they say they carry replacement pads/rotors for the SRT8's that are not that expensive. Now again, I know they are a cheaper product...but some people who don't fully untilze the SRT8's capabilities aren't really going to need all that stopping power.

Anyone......Anyone??

get the r1 drilled/slotted rotors if you call as say your on the jeep forum you will get them 525 shipped. then get like hawk or ECB pads for 230 shipped from tire rack and they dont put out as much brake dust, so now you are at 755 for the stuff and do it your self they are very easy

yes you can use the ones from like autozone and you can even get a little better ones of ebay for like 100 bucks but they are nowhere near the performance and they also put way less brake dust on the wheels.

Changing the pads is SOOOOOOOO easy. Two pins to knock out then slide the old ones out and new ones in. Only problem can be pushing the pistons back in but a long screw driver with something to keep from scratching the pistons is all that is needed. The discs you will have to remove the caliper but that is only two bolts. Don't let the caliper hang by the brake hose but you can make a hanger from a clothes hanger while you remove the disc. Easy as well, may need the cozing from a mallet but that is it. Wkjeeps.com has directions. Do not pay 9-- bucks unless you have it to burn.

I spent that much and did all four with new R1 rotors. I even bought 2 complete sets of Satisfied brake pads as well as an impact driver to break the caliper bolts loose. Took a couple hours but was very easy once I got the impact driver ($29.95 at Wal-Mart). It also removes lug nuts in about 20 seconds.

I heard squeal springs at about 21K miles. I do a lot of stop and go driving.

I am using the Wagner Thermoquiets from Advance Auto. They were about $60 and feel no different from the factory pads. For guys with an '06 you must ask for pads for an '07 as they are listed wrong in Advances computer.
