: will my winters pose a problem?
squigmang 02-11-2007, 11:55 AM hey,
my dealer ordered me in Blizzaks for the winter here in nova scotia, and the size they got is 245/50.
all 4 corners are the same size. i realize the stockers are staggered. will these tire work without problem? i havent had them put on yet.
squigmang 02-11-2007, 06:48 PM bump for reply, im scheduled to get them on in the morning!
Are you putting these on your stock wheels? 245 is a pretty narrow tire to fit on your rear stockers.

I agree. I think that's too narrow for a 10" wide rim.

TurboAWD 02-11-2007, 08:06 PM Narrow is better and a common thing to do in the snow belt. I'd call the service manager to make sure or stagger the snow tires as well using tire shop supplied charts w/ smaller dia rims.

Absolutely. I got the impression he was mounting them on stock rims though.

squigmang 02-11-2007, 08:13 PM they are going on stock rims.
will they even fit on the rear or will they not seal correctly because they are narrow?
and also the diameter being the same and not staggered, will this pose a problem??
thanks for all your imput

You'd have to ask an expert about a tire of that width on a 10" rim, but I think it's too small.
The diameter of the stock front and rear tires are essentially identical. Only the widths are staggered.

squigmang 02-11-2007, 08:28 PM alright ill call the service department to make sure. thanks guys!
kramsay1234 02-11-2007, 10:23 PM The day I ordered my truck there was a guy there who had just had his winter tires installed. They were the same size all the way around and if my memory is correct they were 245's. The fronts looked fine, but the rears, the rim was sticking out because the tire wasn't wide enough. They will work fine, but they looked off if you were looking at them.

StageFright 02-11-2007, 10:35 PM 245 mm is approx. 9.5 inches.
TurboAWD 02-11-2007, 11:00 PM Do steel rims not fit over the stock brakes? I use to work at a big tire shop years ago and you'd be surprised how many folks bought cheap cast wheels for their snow tires. If this is an issue try to find rubber that will fit, the days of thee Blizzak being the best are LONG over. Pilot Alpin, X-Ice (Michelin) Yokohama Ice Guard, Goodyear Ultra Grips are very good as well.
AlexT 02-12-2007, 03:49 AM 245 mm is approx. 9.5 inches.
Yup. And 285 is just shy of 11.25.

SilverSRT-8 02-12-2007, 10:40 AM I got the pirelli scorpion ice and snow on mine. 255/45/20 on all 4 corners. Your rims will stick out a bit past the rubber on the rear.
Still with winter tires this Jeep is no SUV for snow. You can get around fine but with all that torque your traction control will go off constantly even with a light foot. I usually turn my traction control off as I hate how it jerks you all over when it kicks in. I got a 2005 Limited 4Runner and it is a big difference between the performance on snow. I have all seasons on the 4Runner. When the SRT8 team designed this 4 Wheel drive line they were obviously focusing on performance on dry and wet roads so if you are looking to do a lot of winter driving don't expect this vehicle to handle like a normal jeep or SUV. This is a powerful beast!
squigmang 02-15-2007, 03:10 PM so i put the 245's on for winter. they are a little narrow but dont look too awful bad. to the everyday passer-byer they wouldnt notice the rim sticking out a little past the rubber. its better in the snow the the narrower tires so ill have to tough out the shoddy asthetics for the remainder of the winter. thanks for all your input
maf1960 02-15-2007, 03:19 PM folks, any brake issues?
SilverSRT-8 02-15-2007, 03:28 PM Any brake issues with the narrow rubber on stock rims??!! The only thing that give me brake issues is ICE!
maf1960 02-15-2007, 06:05 PM Your are totally right there!! I was thinking more in the lines of the calipers with switching from the stock rims, etc.
whiskey 02-15-2007, 07:56 PM You could purchase some Charger SRT replica rims, 9" all the way around, and put winter tires on those....

The charger has a completely different bolt pattern and offset. They will not work.
ktek01 02-16-2007, 06:23 PM Tire rack now shows a 19" snow tire and wheel package for the GCSRT8. About $1,800 with alloys, no steel avail, and factory TPMS. The only tires they still have in stock are Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow in 255/50VR19
ronald mcglothlin 02-16-2007, 10:20 PM I have 275/40 20 Pirelli scorpion Ice & snow all around. They work great, been on straight ice with 40 mile per hour cross winds no problems at 50 mph. 4" slush at 45 to 50 working great. 8 to 10" loose snow just fine. Seems like anything reasonable that with these tires I will get around very well. So far the Jeep has proved to be just what I bought it for, my performance vehicle to drive year around. Just the most fun I have ever had in any vehicle.
