So I suppose the raffles that are held at my job (sheriffs department) and the raffles my girlfriend gets at her church (LOL) all should be ceased immediately!! Never in my life have I heard of a raffle being classified as GAMBLING.

HOWEVER, if that is what the administrators want us to follow than I have to respect that b/c they make the rules have organized a top notch forum. I get fantastic information from other members here and plan on being a member for decades b/c I am pretty sure I will be passing down the rig to my son when he gets his license.... but hes not born yet.. !! I better change the oil religiously :)

From now on in we will host DONATIONS to our charity of choice. But before I do that I will always thoroughly go over all the forum rules and regulations before doing so. Thanks in advance. Gene

BELOW is letter from admin. I would like to inform every forum member to abide by these rules and respect them.

it's amazing after all the time you spent getting everyone to pay that you get reported after you do it instead of DURING the stages where it would be easier to just NOT do it...

Yikes! I better go "donate" to the mod vendor of my choice, then! :D

Still trying to figure out what to get. I may just put it towards the rest of the stuff I'm getting... more to follow.

Our rules clearly indicate that the forums are not to be used for illegal activity and that's why the raffle threads were shut down.

What the organizations you mention have done in the past was legal if they followed the laws of their individual state and the required registration as a fraternal, religious, veterans or other nonprofit organization. The internet however, is not subject to the laws of a particular state and therefore is treated differently. The reason raffles and lotteries fall under internet gaming laws is because gambling is legally described as consisting of three elements: prize, chance and consideration (payment) all of which are factors of a raffle.

It's not our responsibility to teach members the law, there is plenty of info out there to research if you want more details. There are state, federal, and international task forces that actively search for and prosecute this type of activity. If you want to break the law, have at it, but not on this forum.

The members can whine all they want about this, but they would be whining louder and a different tune if they ended up getting scammed and the potential is enormous.
