SRT8_Halli 02-10-2007, 08:10 PM Okay everyone I need some honest opinions. I can finally have a SRT8, the dealer found a dealer that will ship one down and I can have it by Thursday at the latest. I have to give them the go ahead first thing Monday morning if I want it. I guess the problem I'm having is that the more I read on this site the less I want to take chances with this vehicle. I've read about the transmission shift issues, the clunking/humming noise from the vehicle while driving, the squeeling brakes, peeling paint, peeling rims, etc etc I'm sure I could go on if I really thought hard! I guess I'm just wanting some honest opinions from present owners. If you could go back knowing what you know now about this vehicle would you purchase again or does the novelty ware off quickly??????? I have to live with this truck for 4 years and don't feel like making a mistake and finding out the 8th time that it goes back for service within the first year that I should have bought something else!!!!!
Hope I didn't offend anyone here but as the saying goes one problem over shadows ten good things.
Thanks in advance!
OurZoo 02-10-2007, 08:23 PM I would still get one in 2,010 with the body redesign and new 6.4 Hemi if that answers your question!
runutzzzzz 02-10-2007, 08:54 PM Are you asking us to talk you into it or out of it?
If you don't feel right DON'T GET IT!!!
I've had 7000 wonderful miles on my 07'!
timster 02-10-2007, 09:20 PM Just get it! My 07 has given me zero problems and it is a blast to drive.
JDR07 02-10-2007, 09:24 PM i would get it. there are some minor issues i have had with mine, but nothing that overshadows how cool it is. also i believe there are going to be fixes for the shifting problems coming shortly
Eugene 02-10-2007, 09:47 PM I think that if you visit all the various vehicle forums, you'll find that each have their faults. Thinking along those lines, if the GC SRT8 meets your needs/wants, I'd say, go for it! :)
Oh, and the Jeep isn't the only performance vehicle I own. I've had the Jeep about 4 months now and STILL love driving it!
FastSRT8GC 02-10-2007, 10:14 PM One of the few American i would spend the money on. And all the drive train issues that i have read about the SRT engineers work to fix aka shift lag.
Flaws like paint are all problems you will find with any product that is mass produced. There are bound to be mistakes on some.
This is one impressive vehicle and i would buy it again and again.
esq76 02-10-2007, 10:15 PM i agree....i have owned merceds.bmw and land rover..they have all had problems . those cars, inluding the GCSRT8 have computer problemsfrom the minor to major. alll in and all though, i have to say this is the most fun auto to own
Se7en 02-10-2007, 11:26 PM Today, I broke the 1000 mile mark (1100 actually :D ) and I'm loving it.
I know that this certainly doesn't answer your long term question but I'd say go for it. I was terrified of getting out of the Corvette game (over ten years) for what...an SUV? Trust me these things are great to drive.
All cars are going to have certain quirks or issues, but I'd take Jeep problems over a BMW electrical system any day of the week.
On a side note, you said that you orderd one, but have you driven one yet? If you haven't I would strongly suggest that you drive one before making your final decision.
Good luck!

Mrdredd 02-11-2007, 12:38 AM 4200 miles and not a problem ever
kramsay1234 02-11-2007, 01:19 AM Most of what you are reading is people commenting on the things they would like to see improved or asking questions on things they don't fully understand, and less complaining. Even considering all the things people discuss - can I make my tranny shift even faster, can I get superior braking performance without the squealing noise, will the dealer fix my peeling paint on my bumper, can we get more leather for the interior, can the remote start also drive the truck to my front door.....
If you ask the people in this forum do they love their truck, I think the answer will come to you very quickly. Just read above and good luck with your choice.

jlandbl 02-11-2007, 06:40 AM The Jeep SRT8 is the first car I have bought that I have not once looked back and felt I should have got something different or bought a higher end model. I love this ride. I have 10K miles now. I have had a few minor problems but none of those problems have impacted the way I feel about the vehicle. Good luck with your decision.
whoop72 02-11-2007, 07:05 AM if you really want a performance suv, I wouldn't hesitate. i would make the same decision again.
AlexT 02-11-2007, 07:08 AM So here's my opinion on this after a month of Jeep ownership.
It's a brute performance SUV that gives up utility in order to maximize performance. Early in it's production cycle, I'd expect to see electronic issues, and from what you read here it has it's share. It gets awful gas mileage. It's both rare and an SUV, so it doesn't scream "look at me". Interior quality is ok, but depending on where you're coming from the acres of cheap plastic remind you that the manufacturer saved money here. At it's price point, you won't find much competition for this level of straight line performance, and it handles surprisingly well for a 4800 pound tallbox. The hemi has proven to be pretty much bullet proof, but IMO the drivetrain is still unproven; time will tell how a hard-driven 50K mile example will have held up. There's not much tuner support, but that should change with time. Dealer service support appears to be hit or miss, although the factory appears to be responsive to issues once enough people make noise.
All in all, I'd do it over again. Will I say the same thing a year or two from now? Dunno, only time will tell. If you know what you're getting into, I think it's a screaming buy. If you're stretched to make the purchase, then the issues like fuel costs and minor electronic issues may have you regretting the purchase.
YMMV.

DRE77 02-11-2007, 08:08 AM I've only owned my new SRT-8 for a couple of days now and I have to say I have absolutely no regrets. I've owned many different sport cars and suv's in the past twelve years but none have made me more happy so far. I was also considering an fx 45 before buying my SRT-8. I tried the fx and liked it, but once I tried a GC SRT-8, there was no doubt that was the machine for me. Awsome machine for the money.
I have to agree with other members of this forum, no car is perfect, and they all have their own flaws. All cars breakdown at some point or another, you have to choose which car is right for you. You should also test drive one before you make your purchase, anyway, that's all it took for me!
Goodluck with that one!
This vehicle like others has its +/-'s, but the +'s far outweigh the -'s. The one thing I'd like to note is the 6/7" of ground clearance, watch out for curb/curbstops. I could list many problems w/other brands GM/forign, that are much more serious than the minor issues the SRT8 has/had.

I guess it depends on what you are coming out of.
The novelty wore off for me in about a week. But that's just me.
12SECUV 02-11-2007, 09:22 AM I'm less than 30 miles from 10K and every mile has been a blast. The trans flash fixed the 1-2 hesitation. I've had one rattle and one broken piece of interior plastic that the dealer corrected. All I've done is change the oil and put in a lot of gas. I still get new neighbors everyday that ask if they can go for a ride. The neighbors that have ridden still marvel at how an SUV took all those curves at 80-90mph and did not find the ditch. Only thing I want now is about 100 more hp and for DCX to stop making them so I will still have one of only two in my county. If you ever believe that you are personally taking this ride to it's limits, just hop in the passenger side at one of the SRT Track Experience events and let the pros show you just how serious a performance vehicle this beast is...I will never forget 4-wheel drifting at ATL Motor Speedway...actually can't wait to go back this year and do it again!
I guess it depends on what you are coming out of.

Notice this is a former owner who did have issues w/his SRT8, & no longer owns one. No offense mri.
Razorecko 02-11-2007, 09:37 AM 8500 miles and not a problem on my 07 =)
Mango 02-11-2007, 10:06 AM I have two: Red one has not had a single problem. My Black one has only had the one issue (bad transmission control module/shifter module) and the dealer is fixing it. I have zero regrets about my purchases! I LOVE these trucks.
Think about how you are basing your decision....on feedback from an online message board. People generally come to message boards WHEN THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. So you are primarily going to read problem threads, from a very small user base. NEVER base a decision like this on what you read online.
There are hundreds of owners with zero problems that are happy as can be, but you will never read about it.
Goldengreek5 02-11-2007, 10:26 AM I'd by one again in a heartbeat!! And I'm gonna get the new 09!!
SRT8_Halli 02-11-2007, 10:40 AM All right, all right you have all helped me in deciding to stay with my original choice and get the Jeep!! Thanks very much for all the quick responses and without telling you what I do for a living if I find out any of you were lying I'll be the one tracking you down.............HA HA JK!:D
I guess if I ever decide to get married and have cold feet this is the form I won't be coming to!
Thanks again and I look forward to finally offically joining the club!!!!!!!!
Cant wait for Thursday to get the beast!

I am sorry. I didn't realize he only wanted to hear from those who were happy with theirs. I thought he was looking for all opinions. My bad.

Why are you still posting here? I owned a Blazer once & I think it was a POS so now I'm going to thier forum to complain. If you wanted the SRT8 you would have made them get you a new one/or fix the one you had.
Mango 02-11-2007, 02:26 PM Ahh yes, mricorp traded his in for a BMW X5. It was his choice to dump his SRT8 and I respect that.

I actually still own several DCX products (Chargers, Magnum, etc.) for my company and am contemplating buying another GC SRT8 for a show vehicle we are building this year. Therefore, I still watch this forum to see what is new and what kind of problems others are having.
I wasn't aware that I am no longer allowed to reply to posts since I sold my personal GC SRT8. I still believe it is an awesome truck however I recieved a bad one and the service was so bad it forced me to not get another.
All I asked the original poster was what kind of vehicle he is coming from. If he is coming from a BMW or MB or something like that he may be very disappointed with the overall product and dealer support. I wished I had known that prior to buying mine.

I've owned several BMWs (still have 2 sitting in my driveway) and there is NO comparison between what I get from my Jeep dealer and what the BMW experience was like. But I knew that going in.
I considered a BMW SAV before I pulled the trigger on the SRT8. Dollar for dollar I was happy with what I got with the Jeep. But I also knew what I wasn't getting with the Jeep in terms of refinement and dealer support.

ResumeSpeed 02-11-2007, 06:01 PM ... But I also knew what I wasn't getting with the Jeep in terms of refinement and dealer support...
I'm on my third Jeep. Service at my dealer has been nothing short of outstanding, I couldn't find anything to complain about if I wanted to. There ARE good and bad dealers out there for ALL makes and models, and there are good and bad service departments...
SRT8_Halli, you made a good decision. I have 10k miles on mine so far, absolutely LOVE each and every minute of driving it, only a couple of very very minor issues if I wanted to get real picky. I'd buy another one without question, one of my favorite vehicles of all time. The "fun" factor is off the charts.

I'm comparing apples and oranges. My BMW price "included" free maintenance, free BMW loaners, free hand washes whenever my car was in for any reason and a system by BMWNA that rewarded the local dealership for my scoring them with 5's on a phone survey that was conducted by BMWNA after every service visit. That meant an attitude towards ensuring that I was happy from the moment I walked in to the moment I walked out - that was the best part of the dealership experience for me.
Unfortunately, I bought my Jeep from a dealership that looks like they're stuck in the 70's as far as attitude towards customer service is concerned.
But again, I'm not disappointed. I expected it to be very different. I paid inflated BMW prices for it.
Alex
These GC's are not perfect, & I'm not 100% satified w/100% of the vehicle. Most of the issues have been minor, & most of mine have been dealer/service related. It is a shame that these dealers aren't trying harder to satasify thier customers, but that said not all dealers are bad. Here is an example of an issue I had: got an aftermarket remote starter installed through dealer, but a stereo shop is brought in to do the install(in conjunction w/my dealer, starter brand CoolStart) they scratched my dash in at least 3 places, the hole around the key/ign is not centered, used a screwdriver to pry the dash apart/etc. & after 2 monthes the starter no longer works. Who do I blame? I'm currently waiting on the ok from DCX to repaint my front bumper, while there they will fix the starter. It's not really the dealers fault/or the GC, but the lousy stereo people. Once a tech put his grubby/oily hand on my headliner, which I was able to clean.
I would buy the GC again, but w/a more aggressive conversation w/the salesman before I signed about service/warranty issues. I'm guessing the WK line will have less bugs as new yrs come.

12,000 miles. one problem that was fixed in a day once it was diagnosed. would def buy again.
MOTV8D 02-13-2007, 01:14 AM I am the rare voice on this board. I have owned a lot of vehicles and a number of brands (Ford, Chevy, Volvo, VW, Toyota, Subaru, Dodge, Saturn, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi (sp?) and Jeep). I am 38 and have had at least 4+ vehicles all at the same time for over 15 years. Most of them performance versions. This is somewhat limited experience, but I feel it's a reasonable amount of exposure.
I have two brands I will not buy again due to excessive service issues Chevy and Jeep. The reason I am so disappointed with Jeep is that I only drive the darn thing 7 months out of the year (October-April). I have 4800 miles on the thing and I have constant issues. The more I talk to people the more I hear Jeep horror stories. I will admit it could be the fact that we have only 1 Jeep dealer in town.
I like it OK. It's more of a toy than a real useful utility vehicle. I know I am the oddball, but I would not buy the Jeep again. But since I do have it, I will drive it hard and hope it can handle being pushed without a lot of addtional downtime. I will be interested to read what people are saying about these things in 3,4,5 years.
propedderkustoms 02-13-2007, 10:19 PM Drove my 2007 cross country and zero problems. GREAT vehicle and I LOVE IT. Such a fun truck and a GREAT value. Of course you are going to hear about the bad things...it's what everyone wants to resolve...all of us happy owners just browse this site instead of posting. BUY IT!
Hallstar 02-13-2007, 10:41 PM I love the jeep...it's an animal and is so much fun to own and drive...As far as service that is where Daimler Chrysler is horrible...I've had no issues as of yet but I was selling cars for Toyota when I bought my Jeep!!! I sell cars part time for Darcars In Silver Spring and we have a Jeep/Chrysler dealership on the same lot(The jeep people are 250% idiots) I wouldn't let them work on my wheel barrel!!! They are being killed by Toyota because of Customer Service yet they do nothing to change it...Thats why we sell 700 new toyotas per month and they sell 26-30 new jeeps and chryslers I guess!!! In my opinion service sucks and the quality of workers is not top notch...I hope nothing happens to it but so far so good...I punish mine!!!

kman999 02-13-2007, 10:44 PM haven't had a chance to put on many miles on my 07 yet, around 2500 since Oct 06. So far no problems. I've own BMW and Acura vehicules in the past and although the GC lags behind in the fit/finish, I haven't had this much fun driving since I first got my license, 20 yrs ago! I agree that you can't believe everything on a online forum, there will be lemons after all. I know a guy who had a 2003 328i a few years ago and it was constantly in the shop for you name it. So every brand has its problems. I just wish Jeep didn't use so much plastic inside!! its driving me crazy. I'm currently on a business trip and have a 3.5 L Charger as a rental and again...ugly plastic. What is wrong with DX??! How can you expect to compete with the imports if you can't do a simple thing like offering a "softer" interior to make it a bit more refined. Sorry had to get that off my chest. No rocket science here boys. Also its a bit strange how the euro spec one has more creature comforts. I can just imagine the designers/exec in the board room saying..." yeah give those dumbass North Americans more plastic, they won't know the difference..." sad, very sad...
I'd love to give my GC to uniqueautosport.com and have them redo the interior, but I'm sure they charge a pretty penny :)
