: Holy Smokes!! $$95.00 For An Oil Change!!
Knuckles 04-02-2009, 10:19 AM Hey Guys,
I was quite surprised when the guy said $95.00 for my first oil change. What are you guys paying for your oil change? I just told him to put what ever the factory recommended and he said synthetic. So after talking to him he gave me a discount and brought it down to $70 for me. LOL! He said that not even his BMW cost that much to change the oil on it. hehehehehe Ainn't that some ****!
promo718 04-02-2009, 10:22 AM the oil & filter cost about $50 and i do it myself. but if you pay someone, a generous $25 for labor gets you to $75 as a reasonable price.
waydennis 04-02-2009, 10:25 AM Badyear wanted $130, most dealers are around $95. Make sure they use the correct 0-40 Mobil 1 oil only.
I buy my own oil (7 X $7.49) and filter ($6.99) and pay Jiffy Lube $30 to change. Avoids the trip to the dealer.
BlackJeepSRT 04-02-2009, 10:26 AM I wouldn't pay more than $25 in labor to get it done. Many little shops will do it for $10 cash, just keep an eye on them.
DCSpecial 04-02-2009, 10:30 AM Yep, Mobil 1 0w-40 isn't cheap.
Advanced Auto had a sale going on before so I got 7 qts of the Mobil 1 0w-40 and a Mobil 1 filter for a little under $39.
Not sure what the dealer would charge if I brought it in with the oil and filter. I know a local shop charges $15 if I bring everything in....and I'm normally right beside the tech as he's doing the oil change :D
Knuckles 04-02-2009, 10:36 AM Thanks guys! I was just curious and wanted to know that I was not getting ripped off. The guy showed me the computer and on there it said 79.00 for materials and 7.00 for labor plus tax. Also how many quarts of oil does our Rig take? 5 to 6 quarts?
BlackJeepSRT 04-02-2009, 10:40 AM 7 qts. The dealership charges retail + markup on parts. $7 labor only? That's very cheap. Offer him $10-$15 cash on the side. :D
promo718 04-02-2009, 10:43 AM ... how many quarts of oil does our Rig take? 5 to 6 quarts?
7, but working with a warm engine you'll have to wait a long time for all the oil to drip off the internal surfaces, so in reality you want to add about 6.25 to 6.5 and then take a measurement on the cold engine the next morning to see if you need to top it off a bit. if you pour 7 in right off the bat, you will overfill.
Knuckles 04-02-2009, 10:58 AM Thanks guys for the Tips! Its all good it threw me off at first, but I didn't think it was going to be that much. Last nite I talked to a friend that has a Trailblazer SS and he said it costs him $70.00 to change his oil on his Rig.
wssexorz 04-02-2009, 11:46 AM I've paid 95 for each oil change at Jeep dealership. I like going to the same place each time just because if something happens to my motor they will have documentation of EVERYTHING done to my rig . .

You have a good point there man!
wssexorz 04-02-2009, 12:23 PM mostly because I've got an extended warranty through my bank until 2013 or 75,000 miles . . If they say I didn't change my oil every 3,000 miles I'd tell them to call Billion Jeep of Sioux Falls and lick my nuts.

LOL! Nice! Hey by the way I see you have a 99 TA! My dad has a 93 in mint condition and wants me to look at a exhaust. What type of exhaust do you have on yours? I was looking at the Lound mouth or Borla exhaust for him. I noticed that his TA does not have a true dual exhaust tho. Is your TA the same way. You can PM if you like. Thanks!
shorestyle031 04-02-2009, 01:16 PM mines 72.30 for 7 quarts of mobil 1 and a k&n filter counldnt imagine what it would be if i didnt do it myself

A Cayenne oil change is $450...how bout them apples! lol
DevssrT 04-02-2009, 03:02 PM WOW Ive never taken my Jeep to the dealership for an oil change...I used tp pay a shop by me to do it for 20 bucks but they closed their doors recently...so the last one I did it in my garage and dumped the oil at a sewage tanker...total cost: 65 bucks in materials..
Knuckles 04-02-2009, 03:06 PM A Cayenne oil change is $450...how bout them apples! lol
Damn and I thought my Oil Change was expensive! Wow!
DevssrT 04-02-2009, 03:09 PM How many quarts and waht kind of oil does the Cayenne use?...better be some gold flake for that price!
wooleybulley 04-02-2009, 03:14 PM you guys got it good, i got mine changed at jiffy lube and it cost me 156!!!!i also live in northern alberta in an oil town where prices or inflated.. from now on i buy my oil at the bulk station for 8 bux a litre and do it myself
Mike_Levy 04-02-2009, 03:32 PM Thats not high number one, and the guy is a liar number 2. I used to pay $130 to have the oil changed on my BMW 540i.
Swedish SRT8-owner 04-02-2009, 03:48 PM I paid 1500 bucks for the 15k service, plus flushing the transmission using 20 litres,oil/tc,oil/ in f/r diff and some troubleshooting with the starscan. So you guys "Over there" should be happy paying 95 bucks for an oilchange!!
And 4 litres of 0w 40 mobile 1 is like 85 dollars here:(
Ha det bra;)
BlackJeepSRT 04-02-2009, 04:07 PM Yeah but you guys have the Euro and Universal Healthcare. :p
wooleybulley 04-02-2009, 04:14 PM whos he calling a liar?

BlackJeepSRT 04-02-2009, 05:41 PM vinny is good with a couple of wrenches. :D
Chick_Slayer 04-07-2009, 04:21 PM How many quarts and waht kind of oil does the Cayenne use?...better be some gold flake for that price!
Its 8 or 9 quarts I believe... cost is mostly labor due to all the pieces that have to be taken off around engine in order to access the basics, plus extra $50 to reset the oil change indicator! just redonkulous!
anyhoo...i love the SRT, I just added a Mopar CAI, and I never heard or felt anything like it, I feel like I'm driving a race car. I dunno how this is gonna improve gas mileage, I cant stop floorin the pedal!
An afterthought on the CAI enclosure..
Anyone notice the huge whole the new heat shield leaves exposed to the air filter.. you can see straight thru to the ground and wheel..I'm worried about water hitting it and eventually entering the motor..I called mopar performance, (888-528-HEMI(4364)) they said there isnt a water shield or anything like the stock intake blocking water from the ground up...they suggested a water repellent case for the filter made by Outerwear performance, I need to give them the dimensions of the filter and for $20 I get a lil bit of reassurance. They claim no air loss when sack covers air filter.
Any thoughts?
wssexorz 04-07-2009, 04:24 PM Sounds like the K&N Drycharger . . . I have one on my BWOODY just for insurance . . just to help keep the water out!
Jacure 04-07-2009, 04:42 PM 40 bucks and i did it all by myself.;)

I haven't really looked at it myself. I would not be to worried because even if water hits it its not enough to Hydro-Lock the engine. I had a AEM CAI on my Integra Type R and got into some trouble with my setup. Because I ran into a puddle that eventually submerged the CAI and it sucked some water into my engine. So I would not be to worred about it unless I was running the Bwoody CAI, which is much lower to the ground. Luckily I survived the Hydro-Lock thing on my engine and I had to change the Oil on my car like 6 times and change out the spark plugs and my engine was all good again. I will look at mine when I get a chance man. Thanks!
sy1616 04-07-2009, 05:04 PM my dealer is $116.00 for the jeep. my m3 cost over $150...
Swedish SRT8-owner 04-07-2009, 05:11 PM No Euros here in Sweden!! We have krona:)

thanks, good tip. i was wondering what a drycharger was, saw it as an option on the bwoody cai order page.

there's some plastic firewall material inside the body next to the air filter, u can pull it down to block an opening thats directly to the left of the air filter. mine's an '09, but i would imagine its the same plastic firewall for all the jeeps.
thesrt8 04-07-2009, 09:13 PM Knuckles...what dealer did you go to? Anyone in the Chicago area prefer a specific dealer?
rumplemenz 04-07-2009, 11:43 PM Hey Guys,

to me it really depends... if they drain the rig for at least 20 minutes like they should than 95 isnt all that bad.... with a good filter and 7 quarts of oil its going to cost you 60 bucks to change it yourself anyway..
but either way id never pay to have her changed... i like to drain unscrew that drain plug and walk away for at least 30 minutes to really enable gravity to set in and get all that oil outta there
most shops do it so quick i bet theres a good half a qt if not more still in the pan when they plug her back up
kokanee13 04-08-2009, 01:23 AM How did this turn into ANOTHER CAI thread???
No with a Mopar CAI you have NO worries about water!!
Panzer69 11-24-2009, 02:33 PM Wow, firts oil change today, 145$ later (CDN). Next time i'am buying my oil and filter.
m4xm1l10n 11-24-2009, 02:51 PM I'll do it myself and i do not believe they use the actual moblile 1 , and 495 sounds about right coming from the stealership .
dodgeboy16 11-24-2009, 02:56 PM Wow, firts oil change today, 145$ later (CDN). Next time i'am buying my oil and filter.
Advanced Auto, has 5 Qts of Mobil1 plus a Mobil1 Filter on sale for $29.99. I buy 4 = $120.00 + Tax This gives me 3 Oil Changes with left over Oil and a Filter. I pay an Oil Change Place $20.00 to change my Oil & Filter. Total is $188.40 or $62.80 Per Change, Not bad for an GCSRT8 Oil Change useing Mobil1 and a Mobil1 Filter. If you change the Oil & Filter yourself your talking around $42.80 depending on the Tax.

cavx5 11-25-2009, 03:25 PM hi..dont feel so bad about $95 oil change...just had oil changed on my x5 at dealership...$140...8 quarts syn oil plus filter..rob

Knuckles 12-14-2009, 03:30 PM just got my first oil change with Mobil One at my local oil depot.......$80!!! wooooo
Well you got a deal cuz I have paid 100.00 a few times already. Like other guys we could probably change it our selves but I just don't have the time so I just pay the dealer to do it.
golfski 12-14-2009, 03:37 PM Wait until you get your tc and diffs done $$$$$$!!!!

Yeah dealer wants 329.00 to do all 3 on a Jeep. At first I was surprised with the Oil change but now nothing surprises me on this Jeep. Its just expensive to do anything on it.
Jr0llin 12-14-2009, 03:54 PM Wait until you get your tc and diffs done $$$$$$!!!!
The oil depot near me also does tc and diffs. i wasnt sure about the diffs, but the tc was only about $50 + the fluid (which he said was kinda rare and i'd have to call in advanced?? anyone else know anything about that?)
Anyways, im normally skeptical about these random little car shops, but these guys have done nothing but a great job every time i've been there.
Plus bc it is so small, you can watch there every move....love seeing empty mobil 1 bottles, knowing im getting what im paying for...
m4xm1l10n 12-14-2009, 04:18 PM Black Friday @ PepBoys $3.99 each quart of Mobile1 !!! I bought about 3 years supply of oil change :D

The transfer case uses Mopar NV146 fluid. Retail is $52 per quart on the fluid. A little less than 2 qts are needed.
You can get it online for 41.60 + shipping per qt and save a few bucks.

THIS IS VERRY TRUE.....
Rambit 12-14-2009, 06:24 PM Up here in Canada an oil change is $150. I have that included as part of my extended warranties on both my SRT8's. 20 oil changes over 5 years pretty much covers the cost of the warranties at that rate.

Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party Bernie....;) We don't care how much it is up there...... or maybe it's just for you we don't care. Ooops.... I bet I've got some points now.

What does that have to do with an oil change? Let's not get off topic here Bern.
ResumeSpeed 12-15-2009, 02:47 AM I have changed my own oil in all my vehicles for decades. Don't trust anyone else, too many horror stories. Wrong oils, incorrect fluid amounts, loose filters, cheap filters, gaskets left on filters, oil spilled on/around engine, spirited "test drives", loose oil pan bolts, oil stains on interior or vehicle, etc. And that's just from U.S. shops - imagine what happens up in Canada! Need I say more?

I got tired of dealing with making a mess and getting rid of the stuff. I'm right down there in the pit with the guy. I drive in, open the hood, take the cap off, put it back on. These guys know not to even touch my rides and it's like the guy changing my oil is an extension of my hands. The best part is he gets to wash his own hands and mine stay clean.

mcopare 12-28-2009, 09:36 AM What filters do you guys use? Also, when did you do your first oil change?
What filters do you guys use? Also, when did you do your first oil change?
usually I use the Mobile 1 filter, you can usually get one for free on deals like the one going on now at Autozone.
First oil change at like, 650 miles, and every 3000 (whether needed or not) since. Also I buy my own oil and pay the dealer $20. I just got the t-case, both diffs, and the engine oil change at the dealer for $310 out the door.
flats3 12-29-2009, 02:04 PM The dealer I use, Fields Jeep in Northfield, gave me the first oil change free and they constantly send me coupons to use on future oil changes. Their normal charge is $80 and I have a $15 off coupon I plan to use for the next change as soon as I get around to loading the stock tune back in. So far I couldn't be happier with these guys.
