: Wheels Stolen

This morning I walked outside my house to find my Jeep SRT8 on blocks with all the wheels stolen and the windows smashed. I am sick to my stomach that these punks feel the need to steel instead of working for things. Either way I cannot change what happened but I would love to know what the absolute best method of securing ones wheels are to prevent future theft.
Thanks for any advise.

I use wheel locks, but they aren't any good if you leave the key in the vehicle. :( Sorry for your misfortune.

Yep I use wheel locks on 3 of the 5 lugs on each wheel. In the odd case someone trys to take the lugs off I could if I had to still drive with 3 of the 5 lugs on. I would advise getting wheel locks on all the lugs and since the factory alarm only goes off if the doors are open even a cheap secondary alarm that if the glass is broke and the SUV is moved would go off.

Hmm I don't suppose the wheel have any vin or identifying numbers on them in case anyone trys to sell them?

i use a set of splined lugnuts and one locking nut on each wheel. The splined lugnuts only cpme off with the special internally splined wrench that comes with them. Otherwise the are just round and pretty hard to take off without the wrench.

I live in a decent part of West Palm Beach, Florida and they did this while the car was in my driveway right outside my front door in a 3 hour window between 2 am and 5 am while we slept.
I would have loved to walk out on them but we did not hear anythign and they were most likely in and out in under 5 mins.

Had my GPS stollen out of another vehicle. It really shocked me that someone would do this. America is going down the tubes, im convinced. While it is still the greatest country to live on earth and i wouldnt want to live anywhere else i feel todays youth (starting about 20 years ago) has no sense of morality or values.

Just so you know someone else had this happen recently and with the money that insurance should give you for "stock" replacements you could prolly get a used set somewhere and have money left over or get some nice aftermarket rims.

I bought the Gorilla p/n 71683N locks, used 16 of them plus 4 of the Mopar. So each wheel has 5 locks, two that are different.

Here is what the 71683N locks looks like:

Update: I am going to order and try a set of the Gorilla # 61681 locks, they have an outside spinning sleeve. Looks like they only come in 4-packs. Here is what they look like:

I actually found the spined lug nuts on ebay. My wheels are black chromed and they had lugnuts that were already black chromed and matched perfectly. They were a little spendy for a full set for all the wheels but as everyone has said these wheels are expensive and its a cheap investment. If I remember right they are just 1/2"-20. The plus is they look awesome also.

1/2-20 and the nut size is 3/4. if you are changing them all, some gorilla ones will need a diff lug wrench as they are 13/16 head.

Also, you want acorn bulge if possible.

I feel for ya bro-that would absolutely irritate me to no end. The insurance Company will take care of it and before you know it-you will be good as new. It will be hard to shake the feeling of being violated for awhiile-but give it time. Think of it this way-if you would have caught them in the act-you might have killed them and be going to jail for murder/manslaughter-I know I would be. Don't worry-karma is a mother f'er and they will get theirs'. Oh yeah-get some wheel locks too.

Not if he lives in a state with the "Castle Doctrine", which states that you can protect yourself, family AND property with deadly force. I think that there are 35 States that currently have enacted this. Used to be that you could only deliver equal force or your life had to be in utter and dire threat, but not anymore.
There was a case around here a couple years ago where a kid stole a dude's car while it was running in the guy's driveway. Dude heard the car began to pull away, kid pulled out of the driveway and started driving ogg. Dude shot the sh*t of the kid trying to steal his car. County prosecutor was completely cool with the whole thing. Society-1, dumbass hood rat-0.
The way I look at it is that regular citizens are responsible to not be ignorant about laws and ordinances-same goes for criminals. If some punk tries to steal something, especially anything having to do w/ the Jeep. He can choose between a 12 guage, .223 or a .40. Plain and simple.

FL passed a much more liberal Castle Doctrine in 2005. Your vehicle has to occupied to protect it with deadly force. Before that, you had to run like a sissy carrying your AR-15 until you could retreat no more.

Florida's "Castle Doctrine" law does the following:

One: It establishes, in law, the presumption that a criminal who forcibly enters or intrudes into your home or occupied vehicle is there to cause death or great bodily harm, so the occupant may use force, including deadly force, against that person.

Two: It removes the "duty to retreat" if you are attacked in any place you have a right to be. You no longer have to turn your back on a criminal and try to run when attacked. Instead, you may stand your ground and fight back, meeting force with force, including deadly force, if you reasonably believe it is necessary to prevent death or great bodily harm to yourself or others.

Three: It provides that persons using force authorized by law shall not be prosecuted for using such force. It also prohibits criminals and their families from suing victims for injuring or killing the criminals who have attacked them. In short, it gives rights back to law-abiding people and forces judges and prosecutors to focus on protecting victims.

What the law says is all fine and great, but what about when it's 3 in the morning and you hear someone in your house? My Wife and I lock everything down, including our bedroom door (no kids). If I were to ever hear that door knob giggle or any kind of sound at that door-I am pretty sure I am not going to create some dialogue with whomever is on the other side to try to quell any possible violence or open it up to find out what's on the other side. Take a few minutes and check out the thousands of crime scene photos floating around on the net, which depict what happens when you ask questions or hesitate. I will do anything and everything to protect myself, my family and my property, even if society may not agree with my means.

Remember about a year ago that guy in Texas...He saw a couple thieves breaking into his neighbor's house while the nieghbors were away and shot the two guys with a 12 guage...WHILE THEY WERE RUNNING OUT OF THE HOUSE! That was straight-up great, especially since he was never prosecuted. The best part...The guy was on the phone w/ a 911 operator telling the operator he was going to shoot the two guys and the operator kept telling him not to do it and to put the gun down. Obviously, he didn't listen.

Guys I must give my 2 cents here. You all talking about your rights is cool and I agree you should have the right to protect your life and your way of life. But remember criminals are not smart they usually don't know how to do much but take what they want. This way of life is usually involved in other criminal behavior. If you "had" walked out on them and lets just say you happen to have your gun on you because you heard a noise or saw them. How do you know the criminal or criminals would not have a gun as well. Now you in a shoot out with 1 or more people. That being said and the fact your wife is not a widow. I say I'm glad you didn't catch them. Be happy that is all they took and do what it takes to protect your property in the future. I worked down in West Palm for the Hurricanes in 04 and that is a very nice area and the people were great. If funds allow I say get it all. Wheel locks on all your cars, Motion alarm on all your cars, video camera on the driveway recording with motion activated flood lights, Alarm on the house. Sucks people have to do these things but it's been that way for along time. Do what you can and carry the insurance you need. I hate paying my insurance every month too, but working as a insurance adjuster I've seen peoples house totally wiped out by hurricanes and it sure is nice to explain how the insurance company is going to give them a big fat check to get there lives back in order.

I feel for ya bud and if there is anything I can do to help let me know.

No one agrees with you more. I learned that post hurricane, you cannot depend on 911.

I live in a very nice area of Boca Raton in a gated community with one entrance and one exit through a manned gate. But I keep a pistol safe under my bed my 9mm with 2 15 round magazines and upstairs is the big safe with other toys including my AR15 with 2 30 round magazines loaded. If the looters are a long way off, there is always the .308 with 24X scope.:D
