Guy I work with just picked up an '06 ZR51 (automatic) and is itching to run me in the 1/4-mile. As far as I know he's stock, and I'm lightly modded with the following:

Mopar CAI/exhaust
SLP underdrive pulley
CNC ported throttle body
MHP CMR tune

My personal best is a 12.86 (before pulley/throttle body install). By the book it appears that he'd win - CARandDRIVER posts a 1/4-mile time of 12.4 for the ZR51. But I think it'd be VERY close. :rolleyes: Soooooo tempted to take him up on this one. Thoughts anybody?

Best chance is you jump out early and he freaks and gooses it and boils tires more and he'll miss running you down by 2 cars. Get him early, the longer he owns the car, the better he'll launch. Good luck.

+1111 ^ you can get him if he just got car, hes still learnign how to launch it for sure, you can get jump, hell pull but just let off at like 90 and call it a day haha, no need to break speed limits too much now ;) hehe, thats why i love that we have the low end torque and awd, its useful unlike some cars big v10s and all that hp, nowhere to use it but track ;)

the auto is slower and those number are with someone that can drive so you'll be good

lol a ZR51. I was confused to at first im like oh he must mean a ZR1 and started laughing because that would be a joke of a race. Then he said 06 automatic and figured yeah he must mean the Z51 package.
Anyway, since its automatic if he hooks he will kill you. If he smokes them you will win for a while and he will simply real you in and blow by you.

You will get him. I have beaten so many cars that on paper and according to the mags should have beaten me. And if I am not mistaking the Z51 package is only a handling package it has nothing to do with straight line performance.

Get a license plate plate that says "KIL A VETT" then the guy will crap on his pants, and with any luck, forgot to turn the damn traction control off.

i played with one, couple summers back, i seen him in middle lane with window rolled down, so i got up next to him right by his window and mashed it.let him get a earfull. well few minutes later when traffic cleared he returned the favor. got the jump on me at freeway speeds, but never pulled away i could tell he was staring at me the hole time wondering what the heck. then he took an exit probable dazed and confused. it was the start of me and my sons first road trip in the beast.

Do it! The auto will not be as fast as you posted cause that was most likely a 6 speed. Also he will have a lot more room for error with the launch giving you a big advantage.

if he just got the car... run him... he wont know how to launch it right...

Just for the record:

06 still had the LS2, not as good as the current LS3 (30+ HP Difference)
Also the z51 is not just a handling package IIRC, It also changes the gear ratio, especially in the autos (at least it did in the c5 days). It also adds brakes but that doesnt matter in this case.

My buddy has an 06 vert. We took both to the track and i ran a 13.1 stock and then i ran his car and went 13.3 (it was cold and my first time driving his car, both = minimal traction). So what im saying is, if he just got it, or if its cold you should win. If he has tires or knows what he's doing you MIGHT lose. It is of note i trapped 112 in the vette and 103 in my Jeep. That shows its a traction race.
