Okay I've put a little over a thousand miles on my 07 by now, and everything I thought was a problem has turned out to be petty much nothing (breaking in a new car is new to me, ive always had used ones). However, i've noticed that at some cruising speeds, immediately when I touch the throttle even the tiniest bit, there will be this strange humming/whining sound coming from somewhere underneath he car (its very hard to locate). i have noticed that it is much worse with the traction control off, so I was wondering what this could possibly be. If anyone could fill me in on this I would really appreciate it

What was her name? :D
The noise is the transfer case w/traction control off, it may lessen once the vehicle is more broken in. There are several threads on this noise, as when the noise/clunk the transfer case does after start at 20mph.

it has actually gotten more noticeable the more miles i put on it, and it happens more frequently. what should i do? can i get it fixed? do all srt8's do this?

IMO. Take it to your dealer & have them look it over. Mine is not making much noise, but I almost never drive w/traction control off.

Could it be tire noise? Of all the threads I've read about this problem, it really sounds like what I've experienced with tire noise. To determine if it is this, does the sound change depending on the surface you're on?

definitely not tire noise, it is directly related to throttle, but only if it is lightly pressed at cruising speed. if i step on it there is no humming or anything, i guess i will take it to the dealer, i only wish they knew jack sh*t about srt8's

I thought it had been a while since you had something to fret about. :D

I was thinking the same thing Alex, lol. I am curious as to why one would drive with the TC off on the GC. I thought it didn't make a damn difference. On my Charger I can partially or fully turn TC off. I can then roast the tires and feel the difference. But on the GC, what's the benefit?

lol i'm not fretting about it, i just think its really annoying, and a totally unnecessary problem to have on a brand new 45 thousand dollar truck, even if it doesn't hurt anything mechanically. i expect a lot for that kind of money, and as much as i love it, im kind of pissed about all the transmission/transfer case oddities.

on the positive side, i dont see that ghost lettering on the rear anymore from where i removed the jeep emblems, so thats good

...and also, this humming/grinding thing doesnt just happen with the traction control off, although i noticed that seems to intensify it

I got freaked out with my winter tires on my Murano for the same reason... the sound got a LOT louder when I was even slightly accelerating than it was while cruising.

well it comes and goes, so im just doing my best to ignore it. as long as it doesnt hurt anything, which im guessing it doesnt because it performs fine, im just going to enjoy the car.

I have the same sound. I attributed it to the AWD.

The grinding noise may be the traction control using the ABS to get traction to "other" tires, which is normal.

Thats the way to do it, when i was younger i used to be really cautious of things going on in my car but -honestly you have a performance vehicle and its supposed to be driven hard- my 07 i driver it very very hard all the time and its my daily driver. If it breaks early because you drove it hard than its alot better than later because if its a weakpoint it will break sooner or later. And better sooner with warranty than later without. Ride it hard, enjoy the car and dont look back :D
