Gross, my catch can will be here tomorrow. Using a Moroso air/oil separator, might not look as good ans the billets but it's cheaper, and nothing looks good under the hood up here, roads are gross big time.

No more smelling burning oil, not a bad thing!

Yep,thats the way they all are.....it's horrible. You think thats bad try pulling the intake manifold and look at the intake ports and valves. Our PCV system leaves alot to be desired.

No kidding. If you think that is a lot of oil try pulling off the manifold and removing the bottom cover:eek:

That's why the techs at Jeep say.... "oh's its okay to have some blue smoke at startup". Jerk offs lol

Ok what is causing that?

Ok what is causing that?

Pressure in the PCV system and overfilling the oil doesn't help either.

Kinda sad that I'm installing my catch can this weekend . . It will be nice to finally have it but how much damage have I already done at 33,000 miles? FML!

You can still get a little through the catch can but it will be minimal.....the breather tube will let oil through the air intake under WOT.If you remove the breather tube and replace it with a small filter it will help as well.......

thanx for the info...the oil burn i smell is only upon startup and last only for 30 sec.-1min. wondering if it may be from the crank seal now after reading about the UD pulley...that or it could just be cold weather fitment issues, hence the reason it doesnt burn once the motor is warm...just never noticed it before and not sure what up...primary guess: pulley causing a crank seal leak.

I wonder if Forced induction helps or hurts this issue. I seem to go through a lot of oil.

I wonder if Forced induction helps or hurts this issue. I seem to go through a lot of oil. With F/I its a huge issue as the blowby from the boost will pressurize the block more causing even more oil through the PCV system.Anything you can do to shore up the PCV system will help. Before I sold my Magnum I was planning on old school Offenhauser PCV/Breathers for the valve covers. The more pressure you can evacuate from the block the better off you will be.Also you need to make sure the hoses are not kinked or collapsing.I used the Earls fittings over the barbed as the seal was much tighter

i used clamps over the barbs on the can side, overkill for a NA i guess.

Where can you find those mini filters for the breather tubes? And what do you do with the breather tube hole on the intake then??

For the tapered one shown in pics, most auto stores have them in red, blue etc. For my BWoody, I just took the barb out of the intake tube, and matched up the threads on a small brass plug at Lowes to screw in the hole.

K&N, AFE, SB and others all make those small crankcase vent filters.

promo, I did the same thing after I noticed the hose came out. Too much pressure/not a snug fit? Doesn't matter since the clamps hold it down good and no issues. :D

I'm going to get the pvc breather too, been thinking about it since I saw Sarge was doing it.

If you add a catch can later on in your jeeps life will the oil in the intake manifold eventually work its way out? Or do I have to take the whole thing apart and clean it? Also, when the oil in the intake is burned, can that cause any harm to the engine other than the bad smell and maybe eventually fouling the spark plugs?

Where can you find those mini filters for the breather tubes? And what do you do with the breather tube hole on the intake then??Since the tube is under a vacuum a small taper plug will work perfectly.

if oil is making it's way out of the pvc breather, and you put a filter on it, isn't the filter being soaked with oil?

Nope, the oil is being drawn up by vaccum, once removed from intake tube the filter will just vent.
