Owners of the SRT8, Turbo S, and ML63 all complain about sluggish transmissions. What is the correlation with fast SUV's and slow transmissions?

I must say, however, I am extremely impressed with the new TCM reflash.

I really hate when people refer to the GC SRT8 as a POS (usually owners of higher end cars and GM products). The Cayenne Turbo S is not a POS. Yes it is super expensive. However, it has an amazing off road capability for such a fast vehicle. Let us not forget the quality of materials used in the interior and throughout the vehicle. Yes... we could probably do a ton of things to our GC SRT8 to make up some of the differences for far cheaper....but it still doesn't make the Turbo S a POS.

You're right. The CayTT S is an amazing SUV. Interior is absolutely gorgeous & plush. The suspension is a work of art and the engine is pretty awesome for putting out 520hp's.
The rear end, I think, is pretty nice looking, but the front end is just so gay and dainty - like a castrated bull (steer?). Even if I had the $$$ to throw away, I don't think I'd buy one. Its stigma of "got it just to prove a status symbol" make me not want to be seen driving one. For $20k more I'd get the Ford GT:D

I just love the look of the GCSRT-8, and knowing it owns the SUV road is just gravy. I also like the look of the RR sport - classic tough.

Do you have any proof to this?

The Motor Trend/Car & Driver specs I'm seeing put the Jeep first:

Jeep HP: 420
MP HP: 503

Jeep TQ: 420
MB TQ: 465

But....

Jeep curb weight: 4819lbs
MB curb weight: 5093lbs

Jeep 0-60: 4.8
MB 0-60: 5.0

Jeep Top Speed: 163 attained by a fellow member
MB Top Speed: 155 electronically limited

Granted these are magazine tests, so all the drivers are equally as bad.

HoustonSRT8:

Not sure where you are getting your test figures from. let's compare apples to apples:

Car & Driver:

ML63:
0-60: 4.6
0-100: 11.6
1/4 mile: 13.2 @ 108mph

GC SRT8:
0-60: 4.5
0-100: 12.0
1/4 mile: 13.2 @ 104mph

Road & Track:

ML63:
0-60: 4.5
0-100: 11.2
1/4 mile: 13.0 @ 108.0mph

GC SRT8:
0-60: 4.6
0-100: 11.9 (published time in Road Test Review, not in article)
1/4 mile: 13.2 @ 104.1mph

Inside line (Edmunds) also tested the Ml63 to be slightly faster than GC SRT8.

I think in a 0-60 race..it is pretty much a dead heat. The ML63 doesn't come into its own until near the end of the 1/4 mile. Obviously when you factor $'s for performance...the GC SRT8 is King.

I know the 0-60 times seemed pretty slow, but I got the figures from Motor Trend & Car & Driver online reviews? I figured they were equally as bad, so comparable.

The ML63 may be starting to pass at the end of the ¼, but the Jeep will fly by again when the ML hits a wall at 155. ;)

Look-- our car (the Jeep) and the Porsche and the MB are all fast SUVs, but beyond that, I dont' think they are really comprable to one another. They are different classes all together. All very nice for what they offer. It just so happens that the name Porsche commands a much larger tag than Jeep does. To add to that, the materials, components and craftsmanship are better with MB and Porsche than they are with Jeep. Period.

Yes, we're faster. Yes, we're a 1/3 the price. So what? Does that mean your dingaling is bigger too? LOL

IMO, the jeep looks most aggressive. in terms of pure looks, the order would be Jeep, MB, then Cayenne. But yes, given the choice among the 3, at no cost, I'd probably cave in and take the Cayenne, for... sorry to say...prestige and more luxurious interior. Come on, lets be truthful. if someone asks you what you're driving, wouldn't it sound a lot better rolling off your tongue when you say, "I drive a Porsche" ?? Sad...but true :). Until I have the $$$ to afford it, I'm still riding the GC SRT8 bandwagon.

Cayenne owners will never forget about the quality of materials throughout the vehicle, they are reminded of that as they regularly take their vehicle in for repairs. The Cayenne is one of the most unreliable SUVs on the market, so bad that it alone brought Porsche's overall rankings to the bottom of the list. That, in my opinion is enough to refer to it as a "POS". A vehicle that is so grossly overpriced should not have the issues it has had.

HOW are "components" better if they break all the time? What about all the complaints about driver seat comfort? And how about the driver seat frames that had to be recalled because of bad welds? Did I mention cracked transfer cases or all of the electrical issues that the Cayenne has had? THIS is the "quality" that one gets for over $100K? No thanks.

the benz

im not hot on the styling of either but i prefer the benzs displacement and speed advantage. cayenne is also notoriously unreliable.

i think if the porsche was offered at ~75k it wouldn't be so ridiculous that its slower than the jeep. that said though, porsche is the sports car manufacturer here so they really should sell a cayenne that is definitively quicker than any other sport suv

Agreed...time slips are nice, but one of many characteristics that make a vehicle desirable. Personally, I have a relatively very inexpensive heavily modded F body, and mildly modded Gen III viper. At the track, it is splitting hairs, with the edge slightly to the F body. But from the drivers seat they are as different as day and night. I love them both but differently.

Slightly off topic, I can't see spending 90K+ on an SUV. As soon as I hear that number, I start to think Viper, Modded Zo6, etc....not Cayenne (brethren to the VW Tourag and Audi Q7....ummm...yuck comes to mind).

I agree. I want a $133k exotic CAR to play with. The RR Sport S/C is the only SUV I'd probably pay that kind of $$$ for. The ML63/CAYTT are too crossoverishy(??) for me.

BTW, just because someone owns a Caytt, doesn't mean their gay. I want to make that clear. For example, as Dave Chappelle said, if I put on a police uniform it doesn't mean I'm a police office....but I look the part;)

Chappelle is pulling a double entendre' there (his point is that if you look the part, you probably are....but if you aren't, you are even more messed up). That aside, I don't personally think that these vehicles make the owner seem gay...more like a bit stupid when they could have a better vehicle (that's right, I said better, not "as good") for 1/3rd of the price in the form of a GCSRT8.
